I usually don't post translations for all of the members' IG updates here (mainly just on my tumblr, because I'm lazy...^^;; loll)

No new news but a new old video (feat. Lin-A) to share~ ^-^

The audio on SonicTV's upload is really weird. I just recently found the video with normal audio on afreeca, so I re-upped it on YouTube.

 

Subin/Hakyung/Soohyun have always wanted to try a powerful concept, so this is what it could look like if they did one in the future! 

 

If you guys haven't seen the other performances from this, and all of their Sonic Star League appearances, yet, here's a playlist for your convenience~ (The titles of the videos uploaded by SonicTV are all in Korean, so they're a little difficult for Int'l fans to find on YouTube.)

Sort of a mini Lin-A (or Yuna, as she goes by now) update:

It seems like she's going to college / working part-time / doing some modeling? At least, that's what I can tell from her Instagram updates lol Right after she left N*White, Yuna started practicing with former BLADY member Soojin and a group of some other trainees... but nothing ever came from that. Not sure if she still wants to be a singer?... It's a shame because she really does have a nice voice T-T She added depth to their harmonies and was a solid lead vocal after Soohyun.

Soohyun hasn't posted anything on Instagram or the fancafe since... Chuseok?! Which was like a month ago? She must be busy writing lyrics for their comeback or something ^^ 

 

If the "filming"/"shooting" Hakyung mentioned, last week, was related to N*White's comeback, then they could possibly return in late November/early December?? They've been pretty consistent with having a 1~ month gap between filming/photoshoots and release dates. It'd be awesome if they could come back in time for the year-end Gayo festivals and have special stages! *-*

If you're curious about how "Paradise" sold, I looked those up, too.

(... there's nothing else to do as an N*White fan, right now, so it's easy to get bored ;~; haha)

 

WJ Entertainment â†’ J&J Entertainment

I don't know exactly when they signed with J&J Entertainment; I'm assuming it was after Lina left, last year, or some time early this year. At first, I thought they just changed the name of the company (the staff of J&J Ent. seem to be the same staff from WJ Ent.) but it's technically a whole new, different company now.

 

 

 

Because of this, N*White and Tenyard are no longer tied to 1theK/Loen Ent. -- their music is now distributed by Pony Canyon Korea / OGAM Ent. (Which sucks because 1theK would've gotten them a lot more exposure on YouTube T-T).

 

The most interesting staff change is that they gained a new CEO/Executive Producer, Hwang Hyo Jin. 

 

(The former-CEO of WJ Ent., Lee Woo Jae, is listed as Musical Director for J&J Ent in the Paradise album credits. I believe the members still address him as daepyo-nim/CEO, so it's like they have 2 CEOs?)

 

What's notable about CEO Hwang (besides that he's super young for a CEO... he's an '88 liner!) is that he also happens to be the CEO of Sbenu, the shoe/clothing brand that IU, AOA & Kisum endorse. Sbenu is a major sponsor for gaming events -- like the Sonic Star League and LoL Champions Korea events where N*White performed.  Sbenu also provided all the gear the idols wore at ISC 2015.

 

Of course, J&J Ent. probably have a lot more sponsors/producers/promoters who give them monetary support, but I think CEO Hwang/Sbenu makes the biggest contribution to their funding, at the moment.

 

However, in August/September, Sbenu signed an exclusive contract with Manchester United, making them the only brand to be able to design/sell Manchester United licensed products in Korea. This contract probably cost Sbenu/CEO Hwang a TON... This deal, plus the expenses a promotion period typically entails -- MV/album production, styling, hair, makeup, backup dancers, travel, etc. -- are possibly why N*White was forced to cut Paradise activities so short?.. T-T

 

How successful was Paradise?

It was a super ballsy move for J&J Ent. to rush N*White into the "Summer Girl Group Battle". N*White probably gained a bit of exposure because fans of other groups had to tune into music shows for their biases (many of the reviews for Paradise on Melon seem to have been left by fans of other groups who heard the song and saw the girls perform at music show recordings and such! So cute ^^). But at the same time, because so many big name groups were promoting then, Paradise didn't really chart that well, digitally...or at all >_<

 

(Unfortunately, Melon's chart is only viewable until August, so I only have info from Gaon.)

 

 

What I could find: within the first week of the release of the physical Paradise mini album, they charted at 32 (for only Korean releases).  Essentially, this was only for 2 full days of the physical album being available because it was released on 7/24 and the chart ended on 7/25.

 

 

If you look at the montly charts:

July - Paradise was #99 with 301 copies sold (between 7/24 - 7/31)

August  - they didn't make it on the chart. The lowest/100th place on the chart sold 321 copies -- so they had to have sold less than that for all of August.

 

Theoretically, they could have sold < 620 copies of the physical Paradise mini album in July and August.

 

Fairy Tale ("Hello Boy") 1st Mini Album vs. Paradise 2nd Mini Album sales:

 

 

 

 

 

Fairy Tale charted higher and sold 200+ more copies than Paradise, within the first week. However, this was for a full 7 days vs. 2 / the 1st mini album was distributed and released by 1theK/Loen Ent., and Soohyun had just appeared on Taeyeon's Hidden Singer episode. 

 

...So Paradise flopped?

Considering how quickly the Paradise comeback was announced, how short the promotions were, and the competition -- It depends on how you look at it. Nobody expected N*White to outsell any other groups --  I mean, the chart was full of terrifyingly huge senior groups: TVXQ, SNSD, BIGBANG, SuJu, BEAST, Infinite, APINK etc. The members themselves probably just wanted to at least have the chance to escape the practice room and actually promote, this time tbh! (Also, as SNSD fans, they lucked out being able to promote alongside them! xD lol). The results seem expected; they sold a reasonable number given the circumstances.

 

Why don't they have other schedules/live events, like other groups?

I have no idea! It's so frustrating how poorly N*White is promoted :( Performing at live events would tremendously help them. Although the members seem to be comfortable on stage, they could polish their live vocals and gain some more stage experience. They could also get their names out there, build a fanbase, and allow fans to see them... If K-fans don't get to see them, I-fans can't see them (through fancams/pics), either :((

- J&J Ent. somehow "found" some money to fund promotions (lolll), if N*White is preparing to come back soon?

 

- N*White's unlucky their company sucks at promoting them and timing their promotions

  (but what other groups' companies don't, right? Nothing new! ^_ã…  )

 

...It just hurts more when you're a fan of a nugu rookie group...

It's kind of amazing how long they've managed to stick around and not disband, when you think about it! puahahaXD

btw. 620 copies sold are awesome! DIA from MBK sold 1.5k copies so there is not big difference .. Or Laboum also sold just 1k haha

Really? I thought they DIA and Laboum would've sold a lot more since they're more well-known and from bigger companies *-* ..wow, it really is difficult for rookie girl groups to sell albums vs. rookie boy groups, isn't it? 

 

Hopefully ZigZagNote (if N*White's working with them, again) have a hit up their sleeves and they can get a good digital ranking! That should boost album sales.

Seventeen sold almost 100k with their 2 mini-albums released till now..

for girl groups it is really hard.. Lovelyz sells just 10-12k, OMG is 8k and the other are between 3-6k .. so it is really hard for rookie girl groups to sell these days :"D

Omg yes, Seventeen were right behind Red Velvet in album sales for September! That's crazy *_* But they're super talented, so I'm not surprised and I'm glad they're doing well ^^

 

Some more rookie girl groups sales: April 2.6K / CLC 3K / Sonamoo 4K / Mamamoo 9K / GFRIEND 10K ( + 5K sold this year for Glass Bead). They all seem really well-known I didn't realize how big the gap is with boy groups!

 

Yeah, it's a bummer 1theK/Loen Ent. isn't their distributor, anymore :( They barely just passed 40K views with "Paradise". It's such a nice MV, and it probably cost a lot to make. It's a shame it hasn't gotten more attention.

It doesn't help that J&J Ent. doesn't know how to label their videos, either... They're really hard to find, especially for new fans.

[sidenote: I did find some press photos of Seo Jisuk/Kim Hochang/Ten Yard, however. Sidenote 2: Ten Yard have been doing some activities as part of the celebrity soccer team FC One with Seo Jisuk + Boys Republic's Onejunn (...I can't recall who else is officially on the team atm), but I haven't seen a proper group picture of them since May! Glad they're alive *^*]

On another note, Soohyun removed the "N*white" that was in her IG bio... She's still listed as a member on all of N*White's official profiles/SNS accounts, though (Maybe J&J Ent. are too lazy to update them, but I'm holding on to these small signs of hope that she's still in the group!! T^T)

 

Ughhh the ambiguity of this whole situation is so frustrating, as a fan. The fact that nobody's trying to clear anything up is not making anything better... A "Hey everyone! Soohyun's still our leader, we're coming back soon! Stop worrying!" message (if she still is in N*White) would be so helpful, right now lol 

 

It doesn't seem like they have any more plans for 2015, with the end of the year fast approaching, so the only definite activity that we can look forward to is Hakyung's (+ Subin's?) appearance in "Moorim School", sometime next year.

As mentioned in my earlier post, Subin participated in JYP's 1st Open Auditions in 2007.

(She made it to the final round, but wasn't accepted into JYP as a trainee.)

I'm sure most of you have probably seen all the other idols' JYP audition/showcase videos on YouTube, right? ^^ Subin's qualification interview was on YouTube, but I couldn't find her actual audition/showcase videos. Surprisingly, I was able to find this footage on mgoon's website!

 

(Sidenote: I actually found Doojoon's full audition/interview video, which still doesn't appear to be on YouTube?  Quite strange considering how well-known Doojoon and BEAST are, and how long and it's been since their debut!! I'll try to upload it with another account, sometime??)

 

Not sure if this was posted before, but here's a Hara-fancam that captured Subin & Hara's interaction during the ending of MCountdown on 150723 (N*White's MCD debut stage/"Paradise" Comeback, Hara's "Choco Chip Cookies" promos).
