[OFFICIAL] K-Drama / K-Movie Recommendation Thread

Kind of skimmed through the last pages and didn't saw the following serie titles which I can really recommend:

Memories

Very touching drama about a top lawyer who gets diagnosed with the disease Alzheimer and the story follows the effect on his work, his family and surroundings etc. Very much recommended. Very sad drama too, but also has some light and more cheery parts in it. The chance you will cry some time during this drama is 90% though. Absolute must-watch

Neighbourhood Hero

Show about an formerly secret agent who has now retired and set up a bar in the city, only to find out his old job keeps coming back in certain ways, even while trying to escape it. The bar actually acts as some sort of headquarters of former secret agents to both relax and escape from work, but also to keep getting involved in all kind of cases around the neighbourhood.

Has some cool plot twists in it, with the protagonist as a really cool hero.

Drinking Solo

Very laid-back serie about teachers and students who all have their problems, either with relationships or study and sometimes need a moment to chill out, drink some beers while pondering over the day. The characters are quite funny and interesting and despite that there is not some grand scheme or difficult plot during the whole show, it always kept me interested in watching more.

Has some romance in it, although not too much. In general just a very laid-back and relaxing show to watch, I found.

Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim

This is my first and only "medical" drama I watched, so I can't compare with the others, but I found it getting stronger every episode. The characters are definitely carrying this show, with Teacher Kim as the grand docter who can fix anything basically. Actually not too romance in this show, despite what the title suggest, only a little. And also quite a bit of medical drama which you would expect I suppose, nevertheless really enjoyed it.

Actually looking at these titles I'm not sure if there are any similarities between these series so I guess that makes it hard for someone to recommend something else based off of this list, but if anyone has any, then by all means smile.png

Masquerade

Werewolf boy

Blind

Always

Marriage blues (I thinks that's what it's called it has BoYoung in it)

For movies, I second Train to Busan! There's also the following, some of which I've watched and others that I haven't yet gotten to but heard good things about:

  • Oldboy (a classic)
  • The Man from Nowhere
  • Memories of Murder
  • The Good, the Bad, and the Weird
  • The Handmaiden (this one is supposed to be very beautiful but also very, very sexual)
  • The Host (also a classic; pretty old so I'm not sure if it withstood time since it's been a very long time since I watched it. But Bong Joon-ho, the director, is well known even internationally and he also worked on Memories of Murder, as well as Snowpiercer and the upcoming Okja, both of which feature Tilda Swinton).
  • Snowpiercer
  • Sunny: something more light-hearted and a coming-of-age movie

Maybe also try looking through wikipedia's list of highest-grossing films in Korea and see if anything catches your eye!
