[OFFICIAL] K-Drama / K-Movie Recommendation Thread

I recommend chicago typewriter

The cast, cinematography, story and set are all great. I really like the "past life" scenes and actually want to watch a drama similar (so like set during that time period (the past life was during 1930's Japanese Invasion)if there are any suggestions to good ones that'd be great) It was really addicting and all the bads were outweighed 1000 times by the good. The characters were really great, made better by the actors and idk I just really loved the show... highly recommend that you watch it. If you have no other reason to watch, just do it because Yoo Ah In is so good looking

Also recommend Strong women Do bong soon

This was a super cute and fun light hearted drama that still had a story and suspense to follow. One could argue that it basically balanced comedy, romance, cuteness, horror, thriller and mystery and did a pretty good job at it. I really liked the characters and the cutesy interactions were killing me. (I was also dead while watching because Park Hyung Sik is so beautifulllll). Not the most mentally stimulating or super ground breaking drama but I loved it a lot and definitely recommend it.

that's it for today

have fun

Anything similar to Cheese in the Trap? I'm not so much looking at the college aspect of things, but I kind of need motivation for studying and Hong Seol was a biiig motivation for me

if you still need it reply 1988

lol I was so motivated by how much the characters studied... while still really enjoying the plot. Like they would be studying till late in the night and working hard so I was like, if these people in the dramas can do it, I can do it too

lol

Can someone recommend me a show which is similar to cruel/heartless city. I really enjoyed the darkness of the show as it was refreshing compared to all the cutesy shows I have been watching recently and the story it had to offer was good too

Anyways thanks

Could anyone recommend me something similar to 'Father is Strange' (family life, drama, romance, comedy)?

Or anything about trainee life for example 'Hit the top'?

Or something tear-jerking like 'King of Baking, Kim Takgu'?

If you haven't already watched it, the reply series is a really good family drama with some romance, and slice of life. It's really good

I personally loved reply 1997 and 1988.

Can someone recommend me a good, recent historical drama (preferably pre-Joseon era)?

Or something funny with a good bromance storyline (like the one in Goblin).

6 flying dragons was a good historical drama that was in the goryeo era if you haven't already watched

any good dramas out right now?  I'm more into shows like defendant, dots, chief kim, voice, monster, signal

kinda like crime/thriller, suspense, little comedy, action

right now im watching woman of dignity

i skipped tunnel, is that good?

Judging from your preferences, I would recommend that you watch tunnel, also you might also like lookout. I am watching Save me at the moment and it is reallllllllllllyyyyyyyyyyyyyy good, it is kinda creepy (it's meant to be like that, not a mistake) and on the heavy side in subject matter (no comedy at all), definitely thriller , so if you're not into that, don't watch ohla.png

So I have never really been a fan of kdrama, find them too draggy/melodramatic/loveydovey mostly.

But recently I watched signal, phantom/ghost (because it's by the same writer as signal) and tunnel and I really loved all three of these dramas.

Now I'm craving for more of such dramas, any recommendations?

Hmm, watch Heartless city, it's a little older but still really good

it's been a while (like a few years) since the last time i watched any kdrama and i'm craving one right now.

I was wondering what were the 'trending' dramas these recent years and if someone could recommend one that is light/fun, ala "my love from another star" or "kill me, heal me", that would be great!

Strong Woman Do Bong Soon

Because this is my first life

Age of Youth

Can anyone recommend some dramas for me? I like rom-com mostly with a bit of angst jCQ9zCm.png  I tried watching the Reply series and Age of Youth but couldn't get into it

The last few dramas I've watched that I really enjoyed were:

Because This Is Life Is Our First

Go Back Couple

What's Wrong With Secretary Kim (I LOVED THE PREMIERE)

Temperature of Love (the first few episodes ONLY)

School 2017 couple cuts only smile.png

Jealousy Incarnate

This is a reply to you but a recommendation to every one, I just watched Last Minute Romance a drama about a girl who wants to date her celebrity crush in her last dying moments but settles for dating a doppelganger. It sounds like it would be really angsty but it really wasn't what you would imagine a drama like this to be (you know what i mean your typical melodrama). It's only 2 episodes so you wont be wasting much of your time but idk i found the show so cute and since it was short i just watched in one sitting and it was really fun. I just wish it was longer uffffffffff.....

Does anyone know any drama similar like Dr Frost? i really really loved Dr Frost with their brilliant analytical crime-solving psychological tricks.

Best drama crime-solving story line/plot that i ever seen!! hope there'll be season 2.

Please let me know if any some drama like that. thanks anyway..

I havent watched dr frost but i recently watched the drama Stanger (Secret Forest) and it was an amazing crime drama that was really well done and a good run for your brain lol, even though it is focused around the corruption in the prosecution, it was written like a crime drama with investigations etc. watch it im serious

I would really recommend it seriously

Edit: Just read the synopsis for doctor frost and i would now 110% recommend stranger to you

can someone rec me something stereotypical

like all the generic k-drama tropes smushed into one show

hmm maybe the heirs, got yourself

-rich chaebol lead

-cringey female lead

-female lead is poor

-second lead syndrome(second lead is 10x better than stupid lead)

-it's a "high school" drama

-stupidly acted out kiss scenes

-bad acting (yes im serious)

-stereotypical white actor with d- acting

-bad english

It's a really bad drama, seriously, you can find many others that are much better but yeah

To. Jenny

It’s a Sunday night. I have to nothing to do or watch, so I decide to go on MyDramaList. Someone posts about special 2 part drama called “To. Jenny†starring Kim Sung Cheol (Prison Playbook) and Jung Chaeyeon of DIA (Reunited Worlds). I curiously decide to check it out because, well, there’s nothing else to watch. The plot is about a shy, young man who meets his first love (whom he still has feelings for) and they bond. She also goes through some obstacles to reach her dream. It’s a music drama. Not the most original plot, but not too many kdramas are original nowadays.

Now, I entered this drama with low expectations (no offense or anything) and it really surprised. One of my favorite things about this drama is the way it’s shot (and I guess directing, but I don’t know much about that). About 90% of it feels like a movie. And it could’ve easily been released as an indie movie; it’s roughly 2 hours long and the budget didn’t look too big, so I’m sure they might’ve been able to make profit. The production quality felt like it was on par with some of the past Asian romantic movies I’ve seen in the past.

Kim Seongcheol did an amazing job with his timid character. He can also sing, which surprised me. As for Chaeyeon, I also think she did a great job with her character. The casting was great because Chaeyeon really does have that “popular, out-of-my-league, IT GIRL†vibe and she embraced that role. The younger sister to Seongcheol’s character also did a great job, she was so sweet.

Jung Min (Seongcheol) is someone who I can really relate to. He’s an introvert and the scene where he finally talked to Na Ra (Chaeyeon) resonated with me and I really understood how one would feel when talking to your crush. He had a lot of growth throughout the movie, and I really liked that he had a great group of supporters to help him get through his shyness.

WATCH IT ASDDFGHJJGDGH

Thank you so much for recommending this here!!! I wanted something to watch yesterday and I for some reason remembered that someone in this thread had recommended this. I as well was hesitant to watch this because I thought that it would be really easy to make a plot like this cringey, cliche and just stupid but I'm so glad I watched. Only two episodes but so well done. The cinematography, the music, the acting, the story, the characters, everything was just so amazing. It was really heart warming and cute and I would recommend it to anyone.
