Sonflowers 574 Posted July 1, 2013 Share Posted July 1, 2013 So the show Devious Maids is the brain child of Desperate Housewives' Eva Longoria (it's probably more than that, but i'll keep it simple). It's a show about the lives of Latina live in Maids in Beverly Hill's and their entitled as heck Bosses, with some mystery for some oomph. Critics are upset because of the use of the Sexy Latina Maid stereotype. Other critics are glad about the 5 latina leads. Does anyone here watch this show? Do you like it? Do you have an opinion on it? Episode 2 aired today, but I haven't seen it yet. personally I rolled my eyes every single time the home owners said anything, but that didn't stop me from not being able to tear my eyes away from the screen. The first episode was zzz tho Yeah, I needed something to happen. Like Marisol slapping that guy really hard, my skin crawled every time he was on screen. mostly because I know what he did. Personally wanting to know all the secrets everyone is keeping is making me want to keep watching the show (much like desperate housewives). Yeah IA, the secrets are what pull me in, with shows like this, it's that and the humor, speaking of secrets, I thought it was really clever and unexpected that Marisol was there investigating the murder cause the suspect was her son, tbh I thought she was up to something, but I thought she was just a friend/family member of that murdered maid~ Watching EP 2 now~ Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
...... 3,962 Posted July 1, 2013 Share Posted July 1, 2013 well... sounds like it would be executed better than 'Mexican Landscapers' ... so... i guess there's that... i'm not sure how i feel about the fact that, people of colour in America, seem to have to always play into stereotype, in order to make a television show revolving around us.... but i suppose, without deep analysis, it's all in good fun.... I agree. It's not bad to be a latin@ maid, landscaper, pool boy, or whatever, but when that is the only media representation you have? That is when it gets bothersome to see. Especially with this sexy maid stereotype. There aren't many Latin@ people on tv in general, it'd be nice to see them in a less stereotypical light.
