why are the ratings getting lower? the show is really fun. did they shorten the episode time from season 1? i remember season one was 2 ours long, but this season is only like 78 mins.

my best guess is that KBS' Superman is Back is way too strong a programme. The kids have the nation wrapped up around their little pinkies ;) especially the triplets :)

You know, the first time when they went shopping and Youngji, Jackson & Ryohei drove Dongwook to despair, it was REALLY fun, because it seemed natural and seemed to have developed naturally (even though you never know to what an extent these "reality" shows are scripted exactly), but this time around I can't help but feel like the PDs saw that people liked it the last time and decided to send them off to the market again with instructions to act up and Dongwook to act as the voice of reason again. I really think the PDs are that uncreative. If you compare the first shopping trip to some of the scene from this market trip, the latter seem to be a bit too over the top to have devolped naturally, imo. I just hope it's not too obvious in the actual episode, so it's still fun to watch...

And yay, Hong Jin Young visits! She's awesome! :D

i agree actually. though the fun part of me just wants to watch them annoy dong wook, i do feel that this time it's scripted. unless they show how it plays out (as in how these members ended up going grocery shopping), it seems to be very deliberate. Then again, people loved it and in a way, the pd's are making use of it. My solace is that, even if this was a scripted thing, at least it's interesting and fun to watch unlike previous pd decisions... *cough... seho and nana... cough*

oh, and someone mentioned that jackson and youngji probably are tasked with doing the grocery shopping (in terms of the division of household chores and responsibilities)

I can't at cucumber getting more camera time than minwoo

It's just so awkward how little minwoo there is this season, it's strange because he had a lot of screen time season 1. They either need to make use of him or kick him off the show

the thing about minwoo is that its awkward for a few reasons. He had lots of screen time in season 1 because he wasn't that involved in drama productions etc so he was around most of the time. He doesn't have a lot of screen time in season 2 because he IS filming a long weekend drama and at the same time, his personality changed. he became reserved after the driving incident and from the pd's perspective, there is no sense in showing scenes of someone being quiet or not getting involved. if you notice in season 2, minwoo is beginning to get more into things, like volunteering his sounds for beatboxing.

but really, most of the time, he isn't around.

the deep talks will come, it's a matter of time :) just like us, we need to get close to people first, trust them and then be willing to open up about personal feelings and thoughts. Rather then delve immediately into something private for the sake of a variety show, i'd rather the cast take their time. If it happens, it happens. if it doesn't, i'm glad it isn't forced into the Roommate narrative for the sake of it.

so far in season 2, i think it's gone quite well. first few episodes are to introduce people to the characters, watch them get to know each other, laugh together and have fun. Then they started slipping in the deeper moments like Joon crying, Jackson talking about his mum and Ryohei talking about how he was used to being alone. Next week, we have youngji showing that there is a deeper person behind the soundless laughter. The best part about ALL these moments is that they are 100% natural and not forced at all for the sake of filming. :)

The only thing I can make sense out of the Nana hate is cuz they hate her cuz she beautiful   :hoplz:

anyways, question. guests - yay or nay?

From time to time - yay.

Every week like they've been doing it in season 2 so far - nay.

They've been overdoing the guest thing in season 2 in my opinion. And it goes back to how lazy/uncreative the PDs are. It's easy footage; just invite someone and have the cast sing/dance/etc for or with them. It's basically the same thing every week and doesn't involve much planning or preparation from the producers'/directors' side. But that's also why it's starting to become very same-y for the viewers imo. They need to mix it up a bit.

i agree! sometimes yay WHEN there is a reason to invite them. the guests for housewarming, of course! park hyun bin to teach ryohei trot, yeap, definitely. Hongman for kimchi making, why not?

the rest of the invites don't really make sense though especially with jinyoung (loved her visit but still). gukjoo wasn't even home at the time! talk about bad timing... :P

I agree 100%. The constant joking around is fun and all, but it'd be nice if they showed a more diverse side of family life as well. I'd also like them to show disagreements and tension between the members (if there's any). On the first season, we got to see a few moments of tension eg...not doing the dishes...Minwoo being annoyed with Bom...

i'm sorry but i HAVE to rant at this. I apologize beforehand to season 1 lovers/fans/diehard stans but it must be said that as a lover of season 2, i have to respond to those kind of statements. I'm probably going to get hate and be downvoted but still....

gosh, sometimes it's comments like this that really get me quite worked up. IF there are any, precisely! the word is IF! why can't people just accept that there is less friction in the season 2 cast? Must a family fight? must there be tension? must there be jealousy? I'm not picking at you specifically @azure, really, but what you've said is quite representative of a lot of comments i've read from season 1 lovers who refuse, absolutely refuse to see that season 2 cast can be a family as well. these are also the users who say things like 'oh, season 1 was deeper because they shared their worries, tears' etc. for goodness sake, crying does NOT make a family *facepalm. .... one can cry with friends too. one can feel jealous of friends as well. one can fight with friends as well - all these qualities that season 1 lovers harp on are not exclusive to being a family. the only difference between friends and family is that you can choose not to be friends, that's it. However, human relationships are all the same.

the examples you picked itself are not exclusive to family. Not doing dishes is probably never going to be a problem because we have Jong Ok who is a mum and who knows how to take care of a household. If you notice, she's always the one who steps up and says 'let's do the dishes' and the rest of the class go, yeap! In a sense, they are very ready to serve others like Ryohei who says that he is learning how to do that after years of living alone. The problem with season 1, in this sense, was that the senior members of the house didn't take the lead. Poor Mama Shin (i love him!) was the only one to take care of the kitchen most of the time cause he was so nice until it got to a point where Minwoo was like 'i'll wash the dishes so that i can say something' (which is a part i still don't get). Season 2 is also more obvious with the division of housework as was shown in clips where the members mop the floor, etc.

second example, minwoo getting annoyed with Bom. (let's not drag the entire minwoo issue back into the spotlight. poor guy has enough trouble trying to leave that baggage behind as it is). they show that the season 2 cast get annoyed at each other but it's handled in a lighter, less detrimental way. Look at Dong wook's comments at the maknaes! he gets annoyed for sure but the editing team is careful to balance that out by showing how much he cares for them as well.

in short, it's not that the cast is less diverse or deep but the editing team has learned from their mistakes in season 1 by picking a balanced cast that is more outspoken, less worried or reserved about asking others to do things but at the same time, are thoughtful people who do little things like pick up after themselves to not inconvenience others. It is a group of people that get over little things fast instead of letting them stew and spoil the atmosphere of the house. The editing team has also learned not to blow tiny things out of proportion as well as to be more careful about particular moments *cough* minwoo *cough*

and really, in season 1, the emotional outpour that people harp about do come later in the season (and i also think that season 2 is just way too rich in footage so they don't have to show less exciting moments). it's just 8 episodes so far for season 2 and we've already had joon's heartfelt grateful tears, jackson opening up to jong ok and sunny about how he misses his mum and in the coming episode, youngji's hardship.

that's the end of the rant. feel free to take up issue with things that i've written about because i know i must have tread on some toes but I feel that a different perspective is needed when talking about such things. you can even direct message me if you'd like.

The rating for EP10 is 3% (-0.3%)

I didn't stream last night

Is it a good episode?

could have been much better, in my opinion, IF PD's

1. cut short the time spent on showing seho's 63 building challenge. what joy is there to see him gasping and wheezing?

2. cut short jong ok's friends visit time. a bit too long, more than 30 minutes in a 1 hour 12 minute episode

3. cut short the time spent showing joon, minwoo and kangjoon driving over to the park

4. cut short the time spent on kangjoon eating lemons

in order to

5. show more of the picnic where the cast plays games TOGETHER!

룸메ì´íЏ í¬ë¦¬ìŠ¤ë§ˆìŠ¤ 파티 with JYP

[Roommate christmas party with JYP]

just look at how jackson clings to JYP....

Fun fact: When Jackson first met JYP after arriving in South Korea as a trainee, Jackson walked right up to him and said "Hyung! I'm your new trainee!" JYP was so shocked that he only replied "oh, congratulations" and walked away. hahaha... till today, Jackson is probably the only person to ever greet JYP as hyung while a rookie

What happened to the episode where got7 and 5urprise were guests? Are they saving those parts for the future or something..?

maybe it'll be shown in the next ep (episode 13) cause the whole 1 hour and 15 minutes can't be the christmas party alone. also cause people already know about the got7 and 5urprise charity coal delivering thing, and the fact that it happened BEFORE the christmas party was filmed, makes me think it'll certainly be episode 13. :)

actually topping 5% is already good for that timeslot considering that the next day is a working day :D

roommate was second only to KBS who had 5.3% :D

regardless of positioning, for a show to draw that rating at that hour on a tuesday night, it's an achievement i say! yay!

All these previews are damn confusing...So when is Taec going to appear?

Taec filmed roommate on 9 january i think. so perhaps episode 18 or 19? Earliest episode 17. Roommate isn't done with their december footage yet.

It looks more like "Guestmate" now tbh xD

agreed. well, they (the pd's ) did say they're reviewing this format (which hopefully translates to less guests) that will be put into practice march onwards or something

I was so excited for Gayeon's guesting this week since she was one of the few I found interesting in season 1, but nope! ._. Nada

the silly thing was that the wrong preview was released on Roommate's youtube channel. The first preview had Gayeon (but no gukjoo's guests) but was taken down a day or two later. It was then replaced with the current preview with no Gayeon but gukjoo's guests included. Thing is, this second 'correct' preview was only released on Monday or something, a day or two before roommate actually aired. by that time, the gayeon preview had circulated...

messy control in terms of production really

At this point of time in filming, it was still december (early or mid) so Min Woo's drama was still on. I remember reading that his drama basically ended a week or so before SAF began. He should be there for the january filming.

I would say i enjoyed gukjoo's guests but would have liked it much much better if the editing was tighter. from the rushed ending they gave the two guests, it seems there was more interaction and that they did things OTHER than eat at the table. So why not show more of that rather than eating or jokes about food (which is playing on stereotype i guess... kinda made it a wee bit unpleasant to watch).

It might have been boring for some but it tied with KBS's Our Neighborhood Show(same time slot) at 5.5% for first place. Last episode's rating was 4.7%

thanks for the update :) Looks like Roommate has made it.

hopefully it'll continue to get a high competitive rating next week as well though I have my reservations as a result of episode 15.

what the heck, episode 16 will have two adorable twin girls... hehehehe..... i'm really looking forward to that one

And Minwoo is not even the main role in that drama

And even when he appears on the show, it still looks like he's invisible

unfortunately, main or not, the supporting cast still has to hang around even if he's filmed for only a second...
