Racists start viral "Burn White Jesus" challenge online

A new social media trend is sweeping the internet. It asks people of African heritage to show themselves burning the image of a 'white' Jesus, the main mythological figure in Christianity. Their reasoning is that the face of their "oppressors" cannot be combined with that of their "savior". They use the hashtag #burnwhitejesus or #burnwhitejesuschallenge. Do you think this is disrespectful? Or its a normal expression of belief? Would they also do the same to other religious symbols in Islam?

"When are some of you gonna take up the challenge brothers and sisters and let the system of white supremacy see that it truly is a new day and way of thinking for the black man and woman in this dimension of reality," he wrote on his Facebook page earlier this week.

As of Wednesday morning, Black has uploaded eight videos on YouTube, with "The White Jesus Picture Challenge" video being the most watched, with over 18,000 views.

Other videos include Black lamenting the "out of control" influence of homosexuality in black culture and criticizing the ministries of preachers like New Birth Missionary Baptist head Eddie Long.

In addition to those uploading videos burning pictures of Jesus, others have commented on the social media trend.

Michael Stone of Patheos, writing for the Progressive Secular Humanist blog, approved of the fiery video trend.

"As for African-Americans, they have good reason to reject any symbol of Christianity for the simple fact that Christianity was used to justify the subjugation, slavery and abuse of Africans and other non-whites for centuries," wrote Stone.

They can burn all the pictures they want. Jesus wasn't white. Jesus doesn't care if you burn a picture someone drew of what they think he looked like.

Sadly the Christian religion was used as an excuse for horrible behavior by many people, although the scripture that Christianity is based on does not condone racism but teaches love, respect and oneness. "So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."

Ironic how Christians were the ones who burned the images of 'pagan' gods because they considered them to be false. Meanwhile they took artistic license on their own characters and basically did the same thing, which was give their own interpretation of how god or god's son looked like.

wasnt jesus middle eastern??? i dont know enough about bible history tbh

jesus could literally be any race know one even knows lol

Actually we do know, we know where his mother was born, who her ancestors were, where He was born etc. Anthropologists have used their vast knowledge of genetics and human development to try to give a more accurate picture of what someone with Jesus' background would look like and it doesn't resemble any of the old "white Jesus, meek and mild" images used by many churches.

Skincolor-wise, it's assumed he probably would have been an olive color. He wasn't white but he's also not what today would be thought of as black.

OP probably jacks off to anything that makes black people look bad and this isn't a movement these people are just bored.

This only makes ignorant racists look bad. Since when did it become a bad thing to expose racists? Most people, blacks and whites, are peaceful and non-racist, but the racists ones are always the loudest and they spread their ignorance online.

Buddha has also gone through physical changes in depiction. From a native Indian man to an Asian woman when that religion came to China. Anyone would be saying how wrong it was to burn what each culture considered a holy figure even if you personally didn't believe in it.
