Idols/Rappers with criminal backgrounds

In the entertainment business, having a background with crime is not a liability, it's street cred if you are in path of hip hop since if you have at least one criminal charge that isn't a sex offender or murder you would be considered to be "hood" and thus a legitimate rapper or hip hop artist as you can actually rap about your hardships.

But in Korea there is a higher standard to idols and producers and any crime may torpedo their career if they aren't the big three.

The question is this, which producers/rappers/idols had been at least on the police lineup once before they became part of the music industry? The only one I know is Brave Brothers' Kang Dongchul who had several violent crime charges and even ran a prostitution ring once (probably still is given how his works really brings him back to the life he left behind)

hip hop in korea is a joke

it's pretty much emulating black people without really understanding the pressures and causes that created hip hop culture

like some rapper complained after korean rappers started dissing each other in raps like "we used to be friends, now we can't face each other bc he said something mean to me"

it's just ridiculous how removed korea's "hiphop" is from the western counterpart

I cried when Supreme team broke up :'( lmao the Korean diss thing was hilarious though lmao it was like 4 dudes at first and then somehow so many rappers joined in the hype

Suju Kangin was involved in an assault and a DUI case, I think.

Wait was he the one that hit and run someone?

I really hope you're Korean, because if you're not, I'm offended and I wish you'd quit listening to Korean music in general.

By the way, I'm not sure if I can agree with your statement lol I really love Epik High especially Tablo. Yeah people might consider them mainstream now but Tablo's lyrics are so beautiful and moving. He does talk about various social problems in his songs and some deep ass shit but at the same time he's not a "criminal". For me a rapper doesn't have to have a criminal background or something that's more I guess common in the Western culture to be respectful. Tablo isn't the best rapper technical wise (Mithra is much better) but for me he's the best rapper because of his lyrics. Rmskisosk idk if I can explain myself really well. It's really hard for me to explain what I am trying to say in English lmao (don't make fun of me fob)

As for understanding the reason for hip hop, I mean the cultures are extremely different. What's known in America isn't really known in Korea. There are some rappers that do try to just copy black people cause they think it's cool though

(Ah so many idols I can name keke)

Tbh I'm really surprised no one in YG dissed back lmfao but well..it's YG, an idol company. It might have brought them even more bad publicity because you know most people are shitting on Bom right now. If they had dissed back, I think they would have gotten more backlash

Dynamic duo is fucking shady as hell. I mean I love their songs but after what E-sen said it's just like wow. I'm glad he got out of there and put himself first. I miss him a lot. Him > Simon D but them together as a duo were perfect

I can agree that there are plenty of decent/good rappers in korea with deep lyrics, but i wouldn't say that there is a genuine "hip hop" culture if you know what i mean... what some korean rappers (not all but you know rappers like dok2) try to do is where glammed up hood fashion and force on this pretentious persona.

lol didn't yg do that whole diss rap against cho pd after he dissed gd. i remember that it really wasn't effective because gd only had a verse in the song and was basically babied by all the other rappers in yg. are they even still a part of yg? i never hear about them anymore

Dont know if you can call that criminal but T.O.P and his friends often drove cars and motorcycles without a license (a few friends died because of that) he also had to switch schools but i dont know the reason i think he was an iljin without the bully part :P
