  1. This is me like 95% of the time I make a mistake lmao Like goddamn it Julia maintain the same vocal tract shape throughout your register otherwise you'll start mixing badly and strain dammit
  2. Nonono the survey is.... something entirely different lmao maybe I'll drop it in your PM's just so you don't feel left out, but the reason you haven't gotten the survey so far is because you seem really intimidating apparently haha same thing with caipirinhas, it's not that she's scary, she's intimidating (apparently, again)
  3. I can resonate down to at least F#4 or even F4 I'd guess so that's not really true, but a lot of sopranos are underdeveloped in their lower registers since they're not really 'needed' down there per se, and you have to spend a fair bit of time developing support and getting comfortable before you resonate sooo Lmao it's an extremely educational survey though idk what you're talking about
  4. You know your current sig shows up as one gif on top of the other instead of side by side right? The max size for gifs to be on one line is 395x250 px each, just thought I'd let ya know :)

I know ... somebody made this for me in resize thread and I don't know how to fix it :(

Oh! Here's a website that does it for you, just put in the new width and the height should be within the limit: https://ezgif.com/resize/

  5. lmao never you have to be exposed as the hoe you are
  6. Maybe now BabyKBK will dare to drop that survey that he's been passing around to all the vocal threaders into your PMs lmao apparently you and caipirinhas were the two scariest people here - he was trying to convince me to ask you since I'm closer to your age (21 as of the 16th) but because it's me and you haven't explicitly said you like me I won't exclude the possibility that you hate me lol
  7. Most main vocalists support in their comfortable areas, I'd say best thing to do would be to look at main vocalists and then compare them to sub vocalists in the same group singing the same phrases. So Chen/Kyungsoo/Baekhyun vs Xiumin/Kai/Sehun for example.
  8. Having no free days in a week schedule-wise sucks, even though I love my job and uni

  9. There are a lot of videos comparing strain vs support, here are some:
  10. I think this will be my last reply hahahaa just for my attention span's sake but it's been interesting. My point in my last reply (although looking back it's kinda unclear what I was trying to say) is that constricting the aes is different from changing the shape of your vocal tract by your mouth, soft palate or your tongue moving. And the doctors making you say 'ah' thing, I know why they do that and the second reply is actually more accurate than the first reply, because tbh if something was wrong with those nerves the patient would tell you straight up, it produces very different symptoms. Most of the time they check it because you're coming in with symptoms of a flu or cold and they want to check what the back of your throat looks like to clear you for more severe infections.
  11. My attention span is wavering (it's not you, it's me, seriously) but essentially the thing that you mentioned is not zero energy required, because it involves narrowing of the throat just above the vocal chords. Changing the shape of your mouth or the position of your tongue is not sufficiently far down to be able to do any harm to your vocal chords themselves, and you don't 'block' the back of your throat, in fact if you did why would doctors ask you to say 'ah' when they want to look at the back of your throat. Half an inch above your vocal chords, or even an inch above your vocal chords, is still far enough away from the top of your vocal tract that you can safely say you can do one without doing the other. I guess my point is resonance as referred to in singing is a combination of what you would see on a frequency spectrum graph along with an open, bright and relaxed sound.
  12. I don't think your definition of efficient is correct - efficient is that which requires the least energy to expedite. Note that the articles do say that the shaping occurs right above the vocal chords, meaning that it's not necessarily healthy and also isn't the most efficient way to achieve it. You can however alter the direction of the air/sound by other bodily means which aren't so, to put it simply, throaty and constricting.
  13. It's not really the most efficient strategy though, it's just the easiest strategy that is most easily accessible to the average person. And I've taken physics papers, I know that resonance in singing is not strictly resonance in that way and actual resonance is never really absent. The resonance that you want for singing can technically be achieved in a forced way, sure, but even though it might be indiscernible from the other way on a frequency spectrum graph, it isn't what we refer to as resonant. Also some of those exercises are to get you used to the way the sound exits out of your head, to kinda simulate what should be happening but with a more open throat and rounded tone.
  14. Coincidence? Not necessarily but the thing is that speaker's formant and 'resonance' as referred to in singing is different, and the speaker's formant can be achieved in ways that would be considered resonant as well as in ways that would not be. For example, in the first article, I direct your attention towards paragraph eight (it starts with "Second, they alter") where it states that often people who achieve this formant at around 3000Hz do so by narrowing or restricting the throat just above the vocal chords - and if this speaker's formant 'resonance' is achieved in this way, resonance as we refer to it in singing is not achieved, because the throat must be open, relaxed and the sound not forced in this way. On another note I probably have this speaker's formant in my speaking voice because my voice carries really far and through a lot of walls all the time even though I don't want it to and it's super annoying.
  15. A false positive is when you look at the graph and go 'yes, this shows resonance' but then you go and listen to it and none or few of the aspects of resonance are present.
  16. Like I've said before, the frequency spectrum graphs have good specificity but poor sensitivity, meaning it can easily give true negatives but also gives some false positives.
  17. Dude he thought I was 24 and I'm older than you idk whether to be flattered or offended
  18. Since you're saying you might be youngest... 15/16?
  19. boi most of this thread are witnesses what are you talking about get a grip
  20. How can you call yourself innocent what with that quiz you've been passing around
  21. Edited and no one would've known if your internet was just sliiightly slower Also wait if you're youngest who is second youngest?
  22. How dare you I'm not even 21 yet excuse you I told you I was 20 today Also how can you call me granny when you thought I was 24 mess
  23. That was Hyorin's high note right? Idk to me that sounded downright painful, it was around the time she had finished One Way Love promotions and her voice was pretty worn out, iirc.
  24. So I actually saw this originally and was going to answer but then I never suggest specific exercises because different strokes for different folks, y'know? So therefore I didn't but since nobody has answered I'm going to. Anyway, it sounds like it's a placement issue, do you do twang/mask resonance exercises? It's essentially a load of exercises with a nasally voice, but the specific imitation that works best is different for everybody. For me this kind of exercise works: It's just about using twang through your entire range, so usually I do scales with an ugly voice first and then go into normal scales. If I find hitting a note is uncomfortable I go to head voice and add twang, then gradually strengthen it until it's my regular mix. Also idk if you do this, but it used to be something that I did when I was a bit younger so I'm mentioning it anyway - when you're singing a song and it's coming up to the high note, do you tense up and go 'okay here we go it's coming' to get ready for it? If you do, don't. Just go for it, and although it might not sound perfect the first few times 'round, it makes it a hell of a lot easier to work on perfecting it when you're not A; stressing the hell out and B; tensing up your whole body to restrict the way the sound naturally wants to come out.
  25. I support down to E3 only, I think, but my tutor might tell me something different and it's only because that's the last note I'm confident in lmao
