[2015 MAMA] iKON and Twice Win Best New Artist Awards

 

 

The Best New Artist Award is particularly significant because it can only be won once in an artist’s lifetime, and the honor went to two rookies, who proved to be formidable forces this year at 2015 MAMA.

MAMA returned to the AsiaWorld-Expo in Hong Kong on December 2, where the main event opened with energetic performances and the first awards of the night: Best New Male Artist and Best New Female Artist.

 

IKON, who debuted this year and already has an arsenal of hits, picked up the Best New Male Artist Award. 

Leader B.I said, “Thank for making this a day we will never forget.†
He continued, “Thank you to our parents and family, Yang Hyun Suk, and the producer hyungs who made music with us.â€
He also made sure to shout out label seniors Big Bang, 2NE1, Winner, Psy and Epik High.

Meanwhile, JYP rookie group Twice, who debuted this year with Like OOH-AHH, took home the Best New Female Artist honor.

Jihyo said, “We’re nervous, honored and can’t believe that the first award we’re winning is such a big award.â€

She also thanked Park Jin Young, who looked on like a proud father from the crowd, before saying “Twice is still lacking in many ways, but we will take this award to mean for us to become better people and singers.â€

Baek Ah Yeon from JYP Entertainment tops the list with “Shouldn’t Have.†She released the self-written song back in May, when it achieved a surprise hit at the top of many Korean music charts. Originally she had not intended to do any promotions for the track, but following its high rankings, she performed a few times on music programs. According to the chart, “Shouldn’t Have†achieved 1,277,626 digital download sales so far in 2015.

Rivalry between Red Velvet and Twice: Will they be able to become like GG and WG?

 

On October 20, rookie girl group Twice made a debut by releasing its debut mini album 'The Story Begins' and holding a showcase event. The 9-member girl group is receiving attention from people as JYP Entertainment's first girl group in 5 years since Miss A debuted in 2010.

 

Well, which girl group do you think is the most successful among the rookie kpop girl groups who debuted in 2014 and 2015? Without a doubt, it's Red Velvet. The girl group, produced by SM Entertainment, has achieved a big success with its songs 'Ice Cream Cake' and 'Dumb Dumb', topping various music chart shows. Red Velvet is the only rookie girl group who ranked first on music chart shows in 2014 and 2015.

 

For now, it's true that Red Velvet, who debuted in August 2014, is way ahead of Twice. However, no one can tell the future. JYP Entertainment is still one of the biggest kpop agencies which can give strong support to its artists, while the Twice members already have many fans because they could give off their charm through Mnet's survival program 'SIXTEEN'. That's why it is expected that Red Velvet and Twice will be in a fierce competition as rivals in the near future.(Even though I think Twice's debut song 'Like OOH-AHH' is below expectations. The song is not unique and is not even catchy)

By the way, doesn't the rivalry between Red Velvet and Twice remind you of their senior girl groups? Yeah, those are SM's Girls' Generation and JYP's Wonder Girls. The girl groups, both of whom debuted in 2007 were the biggest rivals in the world of kpop. And I'm sure that the rivalry between the two most popular girl groups in kpop history boosted the kpop industry, drawing attention from kpop fans around the world. Hopefully Red Velvet and Twice will be in a healthy competition and grow up as representative kpop girl groups.

Junho to live stream his concert

 

Junho of 2PM, who recently released a solo album, will go live via V app on Sunday to share snippets of his concert. 

His first solo concert, titled “Last Night in Seoul,†takes place on Sept. 19-20 at Olympic Hall of Seoul Olympic Park. 

At 5:40 p.m. on Sunday, Junho will tune in from the backstage, ahead of the concert at 6 p.m., to share the exciting moment with fans. He will also live broadcast the opening act of the concert. 

 

 

 

 

The 25-year-old dropped a special album “One†in Korea on Monday. The album contains 11 self-composed Japanese songs that were released in the past, including the hit songs from EPs “So Good,†“Kimi No Koe†and “Feel.†Junho wrote the Korean version of all the songs for his local fans.
