I am also someone who had no idea about the BangtanBase forum. I don't know that I have the time to check both so I imagine I will stay here primarily. I do not fear the salt, when it is built on a thin foundation of bitterness.

    EQUALITY FOR ALL~ Amen, fam. Early-to-Mid-20s were a rough patch of introspection about my life and considering what 16 year old me would think of what I have become, a path I am still walking and sussing out on a daily basis now. It is a huge part of why so many contemplative BTS songs and specifically RM's lyrics resonate with me, especially some of the mixtape tracks.

    Of course my brain thinks of the Sylvia Plath fig tree metaphor, which is much more depressing. The idea that, when you're young, the fig tree has branches filled with fruit, all the possibilities of your life. But as you get older, some of those figs die and fall to the ground, the things that you can no longer access because you have grown too much/it is too late. Namjoon's tree metaphor is a lot more optimistic, dream-chasing overachiever that he is~

    I had never put together the similarities between those, wow. I do not hate WABP Pt. 1 the way a lot of people do. I think they wanted to make an impression so they all tried to rise to the mindset that may not have been authentic for all of them. I do love how Yoongi shines in this though and imagine this was closer to the sound they imagined for the original group concept. It is lovely that the rapline still gets moments to have this shine and sound now, but in more refined tracks. And mixtapes forever.

    I wasn't sure at first either on my first listen, but I loved the speedy rap part he did about halfway through which turned the tide. And on second listen, I was here for it. I love the "fuck it" record scratch he does, and all the other little inflections. The gang vocals on that are A++ and also he looks the most amazing ever in the MV? The song that had me immediately hooked and replay forever-ing was Give It To Me. Could not stop listening to it. Even on the first listen of the full album, I played it multiple times before I finished the entire thing.

    I had no problem with the lyrics in either of these songs, as a burning feminist. The only thing that has given me a side-eye is the aggressive handling of the female actress in the Boy in Luv MV. That felt too predatory. His face was the first BTS face I ever saw, and my immediate response to my sister was, "That dude's cute." And then later in the video when he was rapping, "Okay, that dude is hot and talented."
