Except he didn't suggest anyone consume disinfectant, didn't suggest injecting it, and said that the procedure he was discussing would need to be done with doctors. No company HAD to put out any warning. What Trump said was in regard to light therapy and if it could be used to treat COVID-19 to clean the body like disinfectant knocks it out.

China was laughing before, sure, but I'd bet my last dollar they don't want him reelected.

Obviously he didn't phrase it very well(!) as there are Trump supporters, or many who are desperate to save themselves from the virus, listen and believe consuming disinfectant at the cost of their life.  Anyway, he needn't suggest something for people to act on it; because he is the President, why shouldn't they believe what he says or implies?  The fact that he is spewing this kind of nonsense as "suggestion" or not, there are those who blindly follow his words.

And because of Donald Trump, he has introduced the world to "fake news".  Obviously, there are fake news everywhere, but the fact that it's Trump who says whatever comes to mind without so much as fact-checking makes everyone doubt whether his word is true.  Nobody should ever doubt the leader of a country's words to hold no ounce of truth.  Now his claim of Wuhan's lab releasing the virus is pure nonsense; he is accusing China of unleashing a virus and killing people with no evidence.  China isn't whooping his ass so much because nobody with common sense will take Trump seriously.

  2. As the President of the USA, Donald Trump should be conscious of what he is saying.  Not just to Americans, the entire world is laughing at what this buffoon says about bleach.  People could die from listening to him, it's so bad that disinfectant companies have to warn that their products are not for self-consumption.  It should be common sense.

I honestly hope this man does not get re-elected.  His idiocy is dangerous to not just America, but the rest of the world.  China is probably laughing at this elected imbecile.

Booklist Queen's 2020 Reading Challenge | Booklist Queen

    here's mine ^^

i'm slacking -- currently only have the following checked off:

    • a mystery (nancy drew files: secrets can kill)
    • makes you smarter (the elements of style)
    • short story/essay collection (we are displaced)

gotta get out of my slump 😞

Omg this looks fun! I might do something similar next year only because I'm on a roll and I don't want to add any more lists to deter me from finishing my current one (which I add on when I feel it's getting short).

oooh did you enjoy eleanor oliphant is completely fine? it's been on my TBR for a long time but i was torn between picking it up or not

    ABSOLUTELY RECOMMEND IT.

It's one of those warm fuzzy books with a big dollop of unexpectedness in the middle.  It's like a chocolate chip muffin with all its niceness then when you munch towards the middle, there's melted chocolate spilling out and you weren't expecting that.  What's really on my TBR list but reluctant to pick it up is 'Doctor Sleep'.  It's been gathering dust on my shelf for at least 2 years (I think it's 5 to be fair), t'was the rave back in the days when a sequel is better than the original.  But it's Stephen King, which 80% of the time is a miss for me.  I loved his 'Pet Sematary', that's it.

    Reading/TBG (in no particular order):
Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine done
    The Perfect Mother done
    Watership Down nearly done
    Little Fires Everywhere done
    The Shining
    Doctor Sleep
    Faithful Place currently reading
    Wych Elm
    What Alice Forgot
    A House of Ghosts  done
    The Goldfinch
    Alice in Brexitland done
    Faithful Place
    Far From the Madding Crowd
    Close Your Eyes

  4. I'm actually making good progress on my list, absolutely annoyed at the good weather we recently have but everyone is all isolated at home 😑

What are the popular fictions recently?  If I finish the list, I might have to order books to keep my boredom at bay...

Oh, and what's everyone Reading list out of curiosity?

  5. Omg this thread is still alive 😁 Amazing!

Under quarantine and started my reading; hopefully by the time the isolation is over, I will have covered over 50% of this year's challenge.  Fingers crossed.

  6. Can you recommend some psychological thrillers?

I haven't actually read any recently that seem decent or good enough.  BUT: Michael Robotham's 'Watching You', J.T Ellison's 'Lie To Me' and S.K. Tremayne's 'The Ice Twins' off the top of my head.  Robotham's was really good imo, I still can't believe the author is underrated but whatev.

I'm now remembering why I gave up on reading count of mount cristo - book 2 is so slow and boring.

I read the translated version all in one volume and I find that was long.  I'm gonna attempt to read the original two volumes if poss.

Guys, any opinions on 'Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine' and other recent raves?

    Love to hear them

  7. i preferer it over the shining but everything else I agree with.

To help finish try some short stories by edgar allen poe, the nose or the yellow wall-paper. They’re all stort stories less than 100 pages:

About the GR challenge. I often wonder if people actually are trying to finish challenges. Currently less than 1% of challenges have been completed and around 20% of books have been completed. Or is it just that to get a book to count that there’s too many steps.

'Pet Sematary' is probably the only book so far that I like from King.  The others, I'm still having trouble with.

I think what happens with the Goodread challenge is the same thing that happens with other New Years Resolutions (I am guessing this is the time that most people set them); people start off strong wanting to read more, and then stuff gets in the way and you're no longer as motivated.  I went from being 2 books ahead to 5 behind, I am going to finish this challenge, but oddly I am reading less than I was when I had my store.  I got lazy thinking I had a lot more time while at home...

Guys, after this Reading Challenge I'm not going to bother anymore.  Right now I feel enslaved to finish the number of books I promised to read; I want to read because it's a fun activity, not to see it as an achievement when I do complete/exceed my challenge.

Dont get it either. But his shorter works are awesome. Misery and especially Salem's Lot are amazing.

'Salem's Lot' wasn't as great as people make it out to be,  I for one was definitely not amazed by it.  After reading his horrors psychological thriller is making out to be the genre for me.

  8. welcome back eggy!!!!

yeah, we still exist in our slow paced self

'Tis nice to see a familiar face 'round here chuplz.png

oh my god i'm having this same problem with the shining. started reading it months ago but i was having trouble getting through the story and put it down. picked it back up yesterday and remembered why i'd such a hard time. stephen king just has too much detail and rambles to the point where it disrupts the flow of the narrative and i find it hard to stay engaged. there's literally 11 pages of one of the characters just reading news articles and after that i had to put it down again. i wanna get scared and enjoy one of his greatest works but man it's hard to get into it.

'The Shining' wasn't as bad as 'IT' tbh; it's just the latter spans one generation's past and present, and, knowing Stephen King, the book delves into so much detail that somehow the story unravels unto +1000 pages.  I still have a hard time understanding how the man can be one of the greatest storyteller of our time, like, HOW.  I'm not sure whether to pick mine back up actually; I'm gonna try for the sake of finishing my Reading Challenge on GR.  I'm 5 books behind schedule already.  I really need to pick up something short and sweet to lessen the figure.

  9. I haven't been on OH for years and it's so nice to see this thread alive barely ahmagahplz.png

Finally finished IT!! What an accomplishment. Almost took a month to get through 1000 pages. Could have finished it faster if it wasn't for all the rambling. At the end of the day, the book was good. Really liked the characters, both main and supporting characters.

I didn't find the ending as bad as people say.

OMG I've put IT on hold; it's taking forever and Stephen King's rambling is at its worst in this book.  I've started around April time and I'm only 300+ pages omgwtf.png like how am I gonna finish thiss

I'd rather get the physical book. I can't with audiobooks.

If I don't agree with the narrator's feel of the plot, it will instantly turn me off the book.  I'd rather read it by myself.

  10. Just finished the three books from A Court of Thorns and Roses. The author created an amazing world. I recommend it if you haven't read it yet  there will be more books but focus on different characters (the first three were the same couple).

I read her Throne of Glass series.  It's good but very YA.  Got annoyed with her characterisations tbh.

Anybody read Shaun David Hutchinson's 'We Are the Ants'? rlytearpls.png  what a beautiful book.  Probably my fav LGBT book of the year

  11. Reading Adam Silvera's 'History is All You Left Me'... his writing bothers me.  I wanted to take another shot at his books after reading 'They Both Die at the End' because the latter was disappointing after reading the raving reviews.  This is proving to be the same... ;_;  Adam Silvera may not be my cup of tea after all.

  12. Oh man, I loved Gone Girl and Lovely Bones. The first half of Gone Girl was slow, but the second half was awesome.

Why didnt u like them? You prefer fast-paced books?

I can't seem to get on with the style of writing.  If I were to carry on with a book, I must click with the style of writing.  It's not that I prefer fast-paced books; actually, I am currently reading 'Life After Life' and it's anything but.  I love Colleen McCullough's 'The Thorn Birds' as well; a slow story spanning over three three generations which I find very profound and emotional.

I tried 'Gone Girl', but I cannot for the life of me get through reading the skull/shape of Amy's skull etc etc. 'Never judge a book by its cover', which I don't, but I always judge the novel based on the first few chapters on whether it is worth my while to continue.  And I hate discontinued books the most, so you can imagine how much I don't like those that are forced to be left unfinished.

Do you like action thriller books or saga ones?  Actually, I'd love some recommendations to experiment with genres/plots which I don't usually look for.  When I said I didn't like sci-fi and non-fiction, I will still read them if someone(s) highly recommend one of either of the two genres.

  13. Lol! Tell me about it. Currently reading two non-fiction books and it takes forever to make progress. I'm not even enjoying myself. Reading should be fun, not a chore. But I keep thinking that I might learn something.

I dont know why there is so much stigma regarding not finishing books. I have DNF two books - Lord of the rings and Dead or Alive (by Tom clancy)

Sci-Fi and Non-fiction are the only two genres I have yet to read.  I'm reluctant to read non-fiction because it's based on real-life, which doesn't sound as exciting as what authors' imaginations can provide.  You've just proven to me that seems to be the case.

Yes, the Millenium books are on the longer side. But they are really good.

I'm waiting to buddy-read that with a friend.  I hope I can get through it.

The DNF books off the top of my head are Neil Gaiman's 'American Gods', 'Gone Girl' and Alice Sebold's 'Lovely Bones'.  Can't for the life of me understand how people manage to plough on, although I might given 'American Gods' another go because it's Neil Gaiman.  And I love Neil Gaiman.

  14. Hello. Not exactly new here but nice to meet you too!

I have made the mistake of creating and using an account attached to my real fb profile for ages. So now I created a new Goodreads account with a nickname and added some books.  https://www.goodreads.com/aear

EDIT : Tried to add you but couldn't guess your favourite Jane Austen work.

I've added you smile.png  I forgot my friend request Q was in place, never mind.

Guys, please add me on Good Reads (link in sig), I'd love to know what everyone is reading; helps to expand my horizon in genres.

I'm eggy btw ilikeitplz.png  nice to meet everybody !

Can anyone recommend me good new crime novels (2015-2017)

'One by One' by Chris Carter.

Erm, there's mystery etc etc but the pace is more like watching a US action thriller- something like '24' if that's up your street.

Have you read the Millenium series by Stieg Larsson (books 1-3) and David Lagercrantz (books 4&5)? It has been highly praised and won multiple awards. Even made into movies. Books 4 & 5 were released in 2015 & 2017.

Only read the first one and loved it.

I still haven't read the first one, it's gathering dust on my shelf.  I heard it takes quite long to read, perhaps a bit of patience is needed for the first instalment.  For that reason, I'm kind of put-off by it tbh.

  16. I finished it yesterday and I would say it's certainly worth reading. There's a lot of social commentary, as would be expected from King, and exploration of the human condition, which are all areas I think he excels at. If you're looking for horror than I'd say this isn't really it; the magical realism aspect of it is a lot stronger than the straight-up horror. Mm, other than that, I didn't find Sleeping Beauties as gripping or climatic as his other books (Under the Dome, for instance, is one of my favourites), so - not one of his best, admittedly, but even 'not one of his best' is better than a couple of other books I've read this year LOL.

Psychological is more up my street than horror truth be told.  I am suddenly regretting buying 'It' as it may prove too terrifying for me to even read.  Clowns are bad enough, add Stephen King into the mix might make me sleepless for the weeks to come asurpriseblushplz.png  urgh what have I done

  17. Currently reading Sleeping Beauties, by Stephen King and Owen King. I'm about a third of the way through and enjoying it so far (and probably will continue to, judging by my track record), although I keep forgetting it's a collaboration with his son? The whole thing feels very Stephen King-esque and I can't really feel Owen's influence tbh.

I've marked it as TBR, but trying to get through 'It' as soon as since Halloween is coming up and am feeling the festive spirit.  Please tell me how it goes, I can't wait to get my copy of it.
