  1. Also, I think she took pictures behind airport security or at the terminal before flights fans weren't supposed to know about? I remember some controversy about that.
  2. I don't really have experience with tours that go on through other comebacks; does anyone know if they'll change the setlist for later concerts if BTS come back in September? Will they just add in the title track and maybe one other promoted song? Or will they just leave the setlist as it is?
  3. Thought people on here might appreciate this Click here to view the Tweet Click here to view the Tweet The Jimin effect is real Click here to view the Tweet (Not to make this shippy but... this is not the first time in any shape of form that Namjoon's been a little... forthcoming about his enormous crush fondness for Jimin. It's weird because he never pings me in that way, and it could just be that he's very secure in his sexuality (as compared to, say, Suga's remarks on J-Hope :/) especially since he seems to really like girls in a way that I've never seen in his interactions with men lol. There's also the fact that he just adores cute things (see: half a bed made up of Ryan plushies) and Jimin is often see that way... But in that case, I don't know why he'd be calling Jimin sexy lol) edit: mess how do you embed shit
  4. I really love reading things like this, thank you so much for the summary (I'm looking forward to watching the whole thing tonight): it's interesting to note that the media hasn't really known what to do with BTS in the past, and now they have the landmark of "Justin Bieber" to go against as well as the SNS culture of 'Top Social Artist', they've seemingly finally found a line of argument. While it's a little irritating for me as it kind of condenses their success into one aspect - social media - it doesn't really allow consideration for any other factors that attract people to BTS (e.g. musicality, dance, personality etc etc). On the other hand: a lot of these articles and news items have to be short and quick to grab attention, so while I'm not exactly happy about it, I'm glad news outlets have finally found something they can spin into a bit of mediaplay about BTS. (edit: To add: I also feel it undermines BTS's achievements as a whole, as it sort of implies that if you post a lot on twitter and youtube you're gonna be successful no matter what. Which is obviously untrue (a ton of groups are following the 'BTS method' and using twitter, youtube, v live a lot to increase communication w/ fans, esp if they have less company influence, but obviously it can't work for all) and I'm worried about BTS really believing that SNS was the only thing that got them popular. I think the reason it worked so well for them is that they were kind of 'revolutionary' with their SNS as no one had really done it that way before, and that continued as they (literally) pioneered V live. I hope Naver gives them due credits for that lol) I think that's why I really enjoy analysis like this radio commentary, as well as that earlier article on peachisoda that was really well-written. Honestly it's difficult, I feel, to definitively examine BTS's as it's just so hard to pin-point, which is why this cross-examination of not just their popularity but different aspects of the group itself is so fascinating. It can kind of veer of into another direction entirely, though, like that article about how it was the increasing latino demographic in the US that got them popular (???) but it's a good model to show how journalists are finding it difficult to understand BTS and their fanbase as a whole. Kind of makes me proud because the Korean media couldn't (and still can't, I don't think) understand exactly why PSY blew up the way he did either, and while the two are completely different in how they're getting intl recognition it means they're an anomaly -> unique -> 'special'. Anyways, I'm going off the point: does anyone know if there's a compilation for interesting articles/analyses like these throughout the years? Unfortunately BTS content index doesn't seem to cover external content that mentions BTS, and I don't really want to scroll through pages of those twitter accounts that record everything I would find / compile that kind of stuff myself but I've got exams soon and in summer I promised myself no internet :( Hopefully I'll find some time to do it (plus maybe some really basic translations e.g. the 2015 idology article they mention [or maybe i'll just request it off some actual korean speakers lol])
  5. why is everyone getting excited about those practice room pics? they're computer generated and have been out for about a year now, i'm pretty sure the room is just the larger practice room they have now, they could be refurbishing it to fit the picture while they're on tour. but i don't think they're moving anywhere
  6. iirc they did allow them to take pics with fans (i think?) until exactly what you mentioned happened with jungkook during his outing to hongdae. a few fans saw him and suddenly there was a gathering of them following him - he was super sweet about it and took selfies with everyone but i think after that the members were told not to take pics with fans anymore, just signatures. so to op i think you could try asking for a signature as i've seen several instances of it happening in korea (eg. jin and jimin a few weeks ago at the stationery store) but just no pictures!
  7. I know it's sometimes it's not the best idea for me to unlurk on here But I just want to put in my 2 cents.
  8. I've been a fan for 3 years. I wasn't trying to say my opinion was absolutely correct, but that there could be some truth in what Beenzino was saying, and just tried to back up my argument. Not trying to start a fight for no reason, sorry.
  9. I'll have to disagree with you as well. To be fair, I didn't know about Beenzino's age, so that was possibly a factor, but I have no idea why he'd lie about it all. Though I agree with your comment on how it was probably the introduction of idol elements like choreography that drove them away. However, ps is often not very over-the-top,and I do have my suspicions, but people here don't seem to want to entertain the idea even for discussion so I'll leave it there. Not sure what's so wrong about it though.
  10. There's no clear evidence of it, but there are several photos that indicate possible minor ps, and if they did have it done there'd be nothing wrong with it.
  11. I feel like it's true. There must have been a reason that most of the rappers left as BTS was becoming more idol-oriented... And Namjoon looked like he had nose surgery before debut. I don't think Bang PD would have forced it on any of the members, but probably even being offered the choice would have been 'degrading' to some of the underground rappers who are obsessed with 'authenticity'. So it's plausible imo. Bang PD isn't an angel that can do no wrong, even though I love him, it's normal for kpop companies to offer ps to their trainees
  12. yess please. i was planning on doing that once my exams are over anyway but it would be cool to keep up with the discussion
  13. just to add context, they had been eating cake earlier, so thats probably why he did it so casually (i wonder if this is something that isn't strange for them then. )
  14. why is my manager a sweetheart in real life but an absolute asshole over the phone
  15. can we ban shippers and fetishists from this thread
  16. Hansung's death just confirmed why I should've dropped this drama after the 4th episode. 1st ep was interesting, 2nd got into the drama, 3rd dropped so bad but I thought that it might pick up again in the 4th. I had to sit through 18 hours of plotless romantic drivel based on the main female character (who I thought might just hold her own, in the 1st episode) constantly getting tied up / nearly killed / crying and having two men battle it out to save her, only to have the character I was watching for uselessly die after 10 minutes of total screentime only to provide manpain for Sunwoo, just when his story was starting to progress. The saddest thing is that this drama had so! much!! potential!!! A group of young men caught up in a political battle between 3 nations, hiding the one who was meant to be king - goddamn that makes for a good story. Even if it was mainly focused on the comedy element, the interactions between Hwarang were the best part of this series, so there's no issue there. But it's not just the main storyline they fucked up - it's every single piece within it. How can you make two complex characters like Banryu and Sooho hate each other but not offer any backstory, any explanation? Why were the queen's motives for hiding Jidwi kept so vague throughout the entire series? Were there even any motives? (If there were, I apologise, I skipped through at least half of the last 5 episodes) Sure, Hansung's death had shock and emotional value - which is all that he was there for, probably - but could they not have established and developed the situation with his family further in previous episodes, instead of spending 20 mins doing a continuous run of finds the letter->flashback->dansae and sunwoo fight->hansung dies->oh no everyone's in mourning but now there are problems with the other characters so let's focus on them instead. There are a ton more things that could have just been handled so much better, I'm too tired to think of them all Anyways I'll probably still check out the last 2 episodes just to see how it all turns out, seeing how they have to fit 20 episodes of action into 2 hours. I'm glad this show gave V a chance to start his acting career, and I've grown attached to the cast so I'll see it through to the end. I just feel bad for the actors, people behind the scenes etc who put so much effort into this show only for it to turn into a clusterfuck of whatever semblance of a plotline it was supposed to have thanks to the utter incompetence of the writers and director
  17. I'm so glad I learnt from BST era and haven't been on the bashing thread since Spring Day came out. Just had a quick look because of people mentioning it and two pages back I'm already done. Maybe I'm overreacting but that thread is a vile amalgamation of circle-jerked hatred that people justify by using the same stale excuses over and over (fanbase, vocals, visuals, personalities), when it actual fact it's their popularity and the fact that they're everywhere BECAUSE of their popularity
  18. Has anyone gone through a comeback when they're not able to watch the MV immediately?? I have work until 4 hours after YNWA's release... and I want to wait until I'm home so I can take everything in properly... Should I watch the MV first? Listen to the new tracks?? Watch the V live countdown??? (Idek if it will be up on the V app by then) This'll be my first time not being there on time for a BTS comeback how does anyone deal with it
  19. Someone was doing this with pjmdefence, too; not sure if it was actually them or not but it's suspicious the amount of apparent twitter armys that have suddenly appeared here lol
  20. Yep, the 4 versions W I N and G all have different central pairings. Can't remember what version V and Jhope are but if you want a different pair try looking up some unboxing videos on youtube and see what people get for the different versions!
  21. Yeah, I heard that too (was it the one supposed to debut in SNSD?). That lost money probably accounts for a lot of debut debt as well (which is a possible cause of the enormous groups we've been seeing recently; more members = less wasted debt for the company = more chance for it to be paid off even if they're nugu (also, more members means things like more individual fansites bulk-buying albums and gifts etc... it also increases the akgae-ness of the fandom but I won't go into that)
  22. For some members it probably would have been a bit earlier, thanks to royalties etc but I don't think that would have helped as much as people think (like when Jungkook was wondering if he'd get taxes / royalties for writing Love is Not Over and the others started giggling a bit and going "Jungkookie we don't even have money!!!" etc), I remember Namjoon was worried when Tae had to pay just $10 on Celeb Bromance with Minjae for some food which was like... Dec 2015 / Jan 2016. So up until around that time, I think they were still paying off debt / had recently paid it off but weren't earning enough to make a profit. Basically, in Kpop, profit doesn't come from the actual music. Like, at all. It's why BTS can afford to make their albums so cheap compared to the amount of music that's in them; album sales are only there for the figures, and streaming is nearly criminal with how cheaply it pays the artist, especially on MelOn which is where most Korean streaming comes from. Profit comes from two main things for groups: CFs and concerts. So BTS could have been getting a bit of reward for their tours in 2015, which is I guess where they got the money to pay off their debts in the first place, although they weren't bringing huge numbers and intl tours are horrendously expensive to manage so it probably wasn't a huge amount of money they were getting, if any, and most of it would've gone to the company anyway. But in 2016, that's when the big CFs started rolling in for BTS; Puma, the cringe uniform one, BBQ chicken, etc. Absolutely no idea how much they would've got paid for this but in advertisement the artist's company wouldn't have to spare any cost towards what's basically paid promotion, so anything they got would've been pure profit; plus, they had a hugely successful Asian tour mid-2016 that pulled in over 150k people IIRC. So my guess is mid-2016 is when they really got the ball rolling money-wise, and now we can see the results: Tae can easily afford $1k+ sweaters for birthdays (plus the other gifts for Jimin's birthday that went into the hundreds of dollars), all the members are able to donate around $10k (I think it amounts to that?) for the Sewol charity, etc etc.... They're probably rolling in cash right now lol, and after this Wings tour is done they'll have too much money to know what to do with. (Also, there was some fan anecdote early last year about seeing Jungkook buying his parents a car..? Like, if they had that much before the whole YF / Wings explosion, think how much they'd have AFTER it) Anyways. I wouldn't worry about trainee debt for BTS at ALL because they would've paid it off by a year ago at the latest, and now as one of the top 3 boy groups in SK they'll be absolutely loaded. Obviously this is all complete speculation because I have no idea how much they get paid for concerts, CFs etc and how much the company still needs to spend on management, but for a load of twenty-somethings they'll be pretty goddamn well-off lol Edit: for the part about Bighit earning profit, I remember some chart saying they were in the negatives from 2013-2014 until they got a little into the positive for 2015 (i.e. HYYH). Haven't seen anything about their profit take from 2016 but it would be interesting to have a look and see the difference between the years
  23. I feel like there might be a teaser today, no? That means there can be a few days of teasers, then tracklist, then title teaser? I don't think they'd leave it any later than this tbh but then again who knows what bighit will do
  24. i remember something about them learning the danger choreo in about a week? don't remember where and i'm not sure if it's 100% correct but i think it was something like that. i'm putting my bets on a fire-type comeback with minimal or no promotion on music shows to keep their music ticking over and to have more to perform on the world tour, so i'm guessing they'll have a comeback around end of jan or beginning of feb anyways i got this sort of right last year so i'm gonna try guessing bangtan's overall schedule for this year! last year my guesses were: mini album around spring/early summer time (i didn't think it would be hyyh related because i was sure pt 2 would be the last of the series, so i had no idea it would be a repackage but the release time was right at least!); summer tour, check (i thought last year was going to be the world tour, though!); full album around end of september so they could get into the time frame for award shows, nearly check. this year i'm guessing: mini album (for some reason i don't think ynwa will be a repackage, watch me get proven wrong though) end of jan/beginning of feb; one week promotion after the seoul concerts; tour from mid-feb to june/july (incl more asia dates and europe); cb preparation july/august; 3rd full album or start of new mini-album series end of august / beginning of sept (if the latter, their pre-tour cb will probably be a repackage instead) (if i were them i'd go for a full album though as it would mean there's a lot more time to grab the album daesang later in the year) though in this imaginary timetable... i have no idea when rm or hobi's mixtapes will come out... if anyone else has any ideas i'd love to hear them! also, non-related but i wonder if vocal line will start doing what rap line does with their mixtapes where they release something self-created with a full mv but don't do promotions with it? i feel like that would be a great way, in the future when vocal line maybe start wanting to release their own individual stuff, to encourage a bit more freedom, creativity and individuality in the members while avoiding tensions that might come with fully-promoted solo work..? personally i'd love it as it would allow more time for group work while staying away from worries about album sales, streaming etc, but i'd trust bighit in anything they decided to do tbh
