  1. Blame Cho PD for that "On November 23, 2018, Cho was found guilty of fraud by the Seoul Central District Court. The sentence concerned Cho withholding undisclosed assets worth ₩270,000,000 (approx. $238,116 USD) in July 2015 when he signed a contract to transfer the assets of Stardom Entertainment to a new unnamed company. These undisclosed funds were derived from Topp Dogg’s 2015 concert tour of Japan. Cho was given a two-year prison sentence, suspended for 3 years." [x]
  2. Thing is, the host retracted his accusation against Fan Bingbing, saying it was her managers and a gang who committed tax evasion by faking her contracts. [x] And she was secretly sent to a detention facility for 3 months without getting a trial. She was only released after she confessed and apologized. So I wish I could share the same sentiment, but the lack of transparency in her tax evasion case makes me wonder if she' was really guilty or was coerced into confessing.
  3. Here you go again conveniently ignoring the part about SM copying Blackpink for aespa, just because their name wasn't specifically mentioned. Also K/DA being "not even a real gg" didn't even stop SM from trying to copy them. So stop trying to deny K/DA's impact and by extension Blackpink's impact. And there are also other girlgroups who've been hyped as the "new Blackpink" or "next Blackpink" whether it's their agencies' intention or not.
  4. I'm not even a Blackpink fan lol. I haven't mentioned them specifically but I've criticized the members and their songs if you check my post history esp in the Ent Rant thread. But I'm not petty to deny their achievements. You don't have to be a fan to give Blackpink their credit where it's due. Yearly, monthly, daily, weekly, and real-time charts are all temporary. By that same token Billboard Hot 100, 200, and Artist chart are temporary because they're published weekly. Also that ranking includes album sales, Spotify streams, and Youtube views, etc in their computation -- so it's not just what's trending. Also trends are different from fads from a pop culture perspective. From fashion to music, trends and fads come and go. However, what separates a fad from a trend is staying power. Trends tend to gain widespread momentum, while fads appear in contained bursts appealing to a smaller group or entity.. [x] Blackpink released their debut EP for Interscope Records with Kill This Love in 2019, and their pop star power in the US has grown since then. Because of that growth, a marketer of a US toy-based company bet that Blackpink was not a Kpop fad like Crayon Pop -- who was supposed to be an opening act for Lady Gaga's entire N/A concert tour, but left after only a month of touring and never promoted in the US ever again. Rather that marketer bet that Blackpink really is a Kpop trend and won. . Other proofs of Blackpink's success in the US affected the Kpop industry and US media's' perception of the Kpop industry. - Blackpink were cited by US magazine Rolling Stone as the one exception to the stereotype that most K-pop acts who have attained large-scale success in the United States are boy groups.[x] - US magazine Harper's Bazaar cites Blackpink as the kpop group where all the members serve individually as global brand ambassadors to some of the most recognizable names in the US fashion and beauty industry. [x] They're not just brand ambassadors for Korea or the Asian region, they're brand ambassadors for the US and other countries too. Just like in Pop culture, Kpop is not just about music, it's also about fashion and beauty, etc. - US game developer Riot hired Bekuh Boom (who is most known as Blackpink's co-songwriter) to be a co-songwriter and one of the featured singers of the AR Kpop hybrid gg K/DA. The lead single of that EP - The Baddest - beat K/DA's own debut single Popstars when it peaked at #28 in the Billboard US Digital Songs chart -- a personal best for the group. [x] - SM is accused of copying the work of US-based artists like Blake Kathryn and Bryan Huynh, and K/DA (which I just mentioned earlier) , they're also accused of copying Blackpink -- particularly Lisa for one of the AR character designs of their newest gg. [x] SM's not a nugu kpop company, that's one of the Kpop Big 4. Not even 2NE1 was able to have that impact on the Big 4 companies other than YG. Those examples serve as proof that Blackpink has shifted the kpop industry even before they topped the Pop Star Power Ranking. What the Blackpink's Pop Star Power Ranking achievement does is serve as a data representation of what the US media and companies planning to promote their Kpop ggs in the US already know -- that Blackpink IS the Revolution.
  5. Means =/= implies. That's why i said "implies". I chose that word for a reason. And even if we go by meaning, neither "overshadow", "outshines", or even "dominates" in any dictionary requires a duration of time or even a certain number of frequency to be applicable. Statement #1: Blackpink eclipsed BTS in the Bloomberg Pop Star Ranking for November 2020. Statement #2: Blackpink overshadowed BTS in the Bloomberg Pop Star Ranking for November 2020. Statement #3: Blackpink outshone BTS in the Bloomberg Pop Star Ranking for November 2020. Statement #4: Blackpink dominated BTS in the Bloomberg Pop Star Ranking for November 2020. All 4 statements are valid.
  6. The term "Eclipse" implies a brief period of time, just like the brief duration of a solar eclipse -- which is calculated to be 7 mins 29 secs max [x] Blackpink became the first kpop group to top the Bloomberg Pop Star Power Ranking when they topped that ranking for Nov 2020, beating not just all kpop ggs, but also beating all kpop groups -- including BTS (who was in 10th place at that same chart). [x]. Blackpink beat BTS in that chart for a whole month -- that's longer than a solar eclipse. We don't have to "wait for 5 years" (lmao) to see if Blackpink's success has already eclipsed BTS's success -- because they've already done that. So by your own logic, Blackpink should also be considered as one of the major Korean acts who helped pave the way for kpop in the US.
  7. You're not the only one. J is really beautiful with long hair. But she really grabbed my attention with bob hair. The gif that knet #2 posted is God-tier. ooo so they're fr BEP's co. I've liked some of their works esp See Sea, Likey, and Gotta Go If STAYC has songs like those, I'll give them a shot.
  8. DK prolly wondered what MAMA 2019's "Breakthrough Achievement" award meant in Korean not "why tf did Mama create a random award for us". Bc MAMA's alw had random awards. And he didn't look confused when they were announced for Breakthrough Achievement, he even had a huge smile at that time . [x] If any of the members looked confused or off during the acceptance speech, it would be bc S.Coups wasn't there to guide them on how to give a speech. And also because they finished performing onstage just minutes before the Breakthrough Achievement award. Hit is already exhausting to dance even when all members are healthy. Imagine how even more exhausting it is when a lot of them are sick bc of the world tour and their leader is missing. They even received WW Top 10 Fans Choice award -- another paper award (but not brand new) and they looked fine then. . It's even rumored that agencies know what awards they will receive in advance. So if Seventeen or Pledis really felt insulted abt getting a random MAMA award, they would have skipped MAMA or left the venue immediately after their performance to continue preparing for the tour. Or they could ask that they be not given an award at all, and just let them perform onstage. Same goes for other agencies in other awards shows like AAA.
  9. These cnetz weren't really concerned abt adulterous persons getting the same ban/penalty as millionaire tax evaders (bc adultery is not illegal in China). They're throwing shade on the adulterous TV host who outed FBB, lol.
  10. ooo using cubes as part of their choreo is a brilliant idea. It makes them stand out more from other rookie ggs.
  11. Some lilies and trolls/antis overanalyze Jennie's actions for sign of Lisa's mistreatment. If they were really concerned about Lisa mistreatment, they should have harrassed the ex-manager who scammed 800k USD from her., and they should have harrassed YG too, for just letting the manager resign quietly and not firing him or having him arrested.
  12. She pissed off a TV host by starring in a film that had some thinly veiled references about the host's infidelity. And that host is rumored to have deep ties with the govt. There's also a deeper issue behind her arrest and potential ban from the livestreaming industry. FBB made a lot of money and fame not just in Chinese movies but in Hallyu movies and Hollywood movies. And is hyped as one of the (if not THE) Most Beautiful women in China. FBB also has a lot of dedicated fans who are willing to pay lots of money for the products she endorses. Business tycoons are targeted too (ex: Wang Sicong, and just a week ago Jack Ma), but actors, idols, celebs are even more targeted. Basically anyone who has amassed wealth, popularity, and global connections the non-socialist way is on their radar. Even if it's not the actor themselves who did wrong, if their agent or their fans did wrong, they would still be punished too. And now it looks like livestreamers are gonna be targeted too.
  13. Their voices! And they sang Wind Flower too! My ears feel so blessed !
  14. It's actually the 2nd time for them to rank in the first half of the year chart ! The 1st time they charted was in 2019 . [x] And they already debuted in the Oricon year end chart in 2019:
  15. Ooo so Ode made it to top 10 HMV Best of 2020 for Kpop with just the kit (kihno) ver. And accdg to akp they're the only kpop group in the top 10 Oricon singles chart for the first half of the year 2020 (rank #5) === Yep younghoon did! Also heecheon and youndong too! And yes Tomoando made it, so he's not going back to the sea yet !
  16. Can't relate, my faves' music are mostly bops Bc why would they be my faves in the first place if their music is mediocre? This is why I can't stan Treasure even tho Mashiho Yedam and Jeongwoo are quality.
  17. All I can say is it's about time Performance Award becomes a Daesang award. There's a Grammy best pop performance award, so why shouldn't there be an AAA Performance Daesang award? I wished my faves got that but I have no objections to GOT7 getting it, bc they're great performers. What makes me really sad is that some of my faves didn't even get to perform. Anyway I think AAA has more impact than people give them credit for, otherwise they wouldn't get sponsors or this much buzz whether it be positive or negative. Last but not the least, cg Treasure and Secret Number for ROTY. (Go Mashiho and Dita!)
  18. JO1 sounds similar too even JO1 themselves admit that they don't sing/enunciate the Japanese lyrics in the typical Japanese way bc it's what their KR songwriters wanted. But they're still considered JPOP not KPOP so idk why either lol. This is a surprise to me bc it was previously announced that they will debut in Japan. [x] Guess this is prolly the main reason for the Kpop classification then. bc JO1 has a mix of JP and KR staff -- even the CEO of their agency (a joint co btw CJ ENM and Yoshimoto ) is ethnic Korean. and except for OH-EH-OH (w/c was by the director of Keyakizaka46 MVs), JO1's MVs are mostly directed by KR producers iirc. but their first live tv performance was on a Japanese show (Sukkiri). I guess it's a good thing for Orbit to be classified as KPOP, bc hopefully they'll get more opportunities to show their performances in KR shows. but they'll prolly have even less chances to perform/appear on JP tv shows bc of the classification.
  19. He prolly doesn't come from money, otherwise he wouldn't be working as a part-time delivery boy when he was still in KR to pay his bills.
  20. Accdg to Google translate, Grogu is Corsican for Yellow, which means Blaine in Scottish/English. Therefore Baby Yoda = Blaine
  21. Wonder if SM is sabotaging aespa so that they have* an excuse to pay the minimum* amount (or pay none at all) as compensation to the designers they've plagiarized.
  22. wow Orbit at no.8. But why is it in the Top of Kpop list. They only have 3 KR and 1 Jp-Kr mem iirc and their management is a Jpop agency (Dream Passport) and wow Seventeen 5 spots in Top 10. Cg to everyone in the list!
  23. Nice!. Chaeyoung's parts sound really good here. Shows that she can do better than what JYP usually makes her sing/rap in Twice's songs. Jihyo's good, but I would have liked it if there was less of that processing and her natural tone came out more. Surprisingly it's Nayeon who sounds the least adapted to the K/DA sound here, but I still like it. Now I wonder how More would sound like and how I'll Show You would sound like if Twice and G-Idle swapped parts. edit: Translated by Kim Minji --> omg if it's JiU i would be really stoked bc i've always wondered what a K/DA ft Dreamcatcher would sound like .
