This is a random post! I don't have a blog and I don't want to start one just for this post, but I wanted to have my post saved somewhere so that I can write it all at once. Please excuse the fact that this is not a fantaken photo post
First is a disclaimer that I asked permission and was given the approval to post this story
So, during the ì¶”ì„ (Chuseok) Holiday, my mother decided to visit Korea for the first time! This is my fourth trip to Korea, and she has always mentioned wanting to come over, but the timing hasn't been right until this year.
I decided to book a room for us so that we can stay together. I picked an area that I'm familiar with and, based on a few photos online, took a gamble! I decided to stay at í™ëŒ€ 게스트 하우스 (Hongdae Guest House). It's a pretty generic name, but I found it randomly and the price seemed fine, so I went with it!
The host came and picked us up from the station exit and was super kind even though we were doing a little bit of struggle-English level communicating. I don't like to speak Korean unless I feel like I have to ;; I'm pretty self-conscience about how I sound.
My mom was in the bathroom getting ready for bed on night 1 and I decided to stay in the living room to make small talk with the host and the other guests who were staying in the other room in the same apartment. An M-Coutndown re-run was playing and we were just watching and making little comments.
Host: Do you like K-Pop?
This was a question that I deemed important enough to switch to Korea for LOL
Me: 네 ì €ëŠ” ë ˆë“œë²¨ë²³ 좋아해요 (Yes, I like Red Velvet).
Host: ì•„ ë ˆë“œë²¨ë²³?! (Oh, Red Velvet?!)
Suddenly he came closer to me and WHIPPED OUT HIS PHONE. I stood there for a couple minutes awkwardly while he scrolled through his gallery. I was thinking, 'What is he doing? Is this the end of the convo? Can I go to sleep?'
Suddenly, he found what he was looking for and showed me his screen.
First reaction:
No.
Way.
A SELFIE WITH JOY??
A SELFIE WITH RED HAIRED TOTALLY 100% CONFIRMED BABE JOY??!?!?
OH MY GOD.
I freaked out. I immediately started going Oh my god she's so pretty you met red velvet oh my god?!
He explained to me that this was taken when Red Velvet were filming their 3-Minute-Girlfriend for their SNL episode during Red Flavor (SNLì˜ 3분 ì—¬ìžì¹œêµ¬).
Host: Joy and Seulgi came to my house to film!
Holy cow. So, my host owns multiple properties that he rents out. The place that I was staying at was not the filming location, so I won't link it but he one of his other homes! A lot of SNL skits are filmed at one of his homes! (Yesterday, he told me that DIA came to film their SNL episode). The house that I stayed at wasn't the one they filmed at, but still - the fact that I booked the guest house without knowing anything and just intended to have a normal, "non-fangirl" vacation with my mother and then suddenly found this weird connection LOL.. Red Velvet finds me at every corner
He said that he doesn't have much interest in idols in general, but Seulgi and Joy were super pretty and nice. Especially Joy - she was gorgeous.
Later, after I had checked out and messaged him thanking him for being a wonderful host, I gathered the courage to ask him if I could see the photos again and then I asked if I could upload it to share.
Host: I don't care - please mention Hongdae Guest House!
That's all. This is my random story that I wanted to post somewhere along with the photos, which I'm going to go tweet now.
