Did they lipsync both the songs they performed or just one? It sounded like the boys were singling live for dwtd and the girls for you and I.

I agree so much with the bolded here. Throughout the whole show, people kept comparing the show's performance with Broduce which I always felt was extremely unfair to the show. The comparisons only led to people not being happy for what the show has managed to do for the contestant that have appeared on it. Like yes, the show didn't blow up like Broduce but it still managed to give a lot of contestants attention they have never recieved before. Like I know specifically in female Euijin's case she has never appeared in the girl group individiual brand index thing but now I've seen her appear on that list more than 3 times. She also recenlty got picked as one the top ten female dancers in kpop as number 10 by a naver blog that apparently has 1.3 million followers. There has also been more articles written about her than I have ever seen before Like I know if she had never appeared on The Unit any of this would have happened. Anyway if KBS promotes the groups well I think they will be able to decently do well with 1 or 2 members being standouts.
-
Tbh seeing how they are promoting them already I wouldn't be surprised if KBS continues to let them go to events together and stuff like that. I definitely do agree that both of the groups should have success on their own so no one can say one is riding on each other's coattails but they also came from the same show and are being promoted by the same company so it'll be hard to completely separate the two. The fact that both groups have an expiring date at the same time also means it would be easier to let them do things together for the most part so as to not waste any time. As for being worried about scandals between the two of them if there are too many interactions...I honestly feel that whether there is a dating scandal or not is beyond anybody's control. KBS can separate them all they want but if a dating scandal is going to happen it's gonna happen. But the scandal doesn't even have to happen between the two groups it could happen with anyone. Also dating scandals usually happen to people who are popular because more popularity means more media attention so... yeah. Meaning the more popular the groups get the more likely it can be unveiled if anyone of them is dating. But anyway the fact that dating is considered scandalous in kpop will always be so weird to me. Also, it's so weird how through the whole show the fact that Feeldog is dating Bora has never been mentioned. I always thought that was so interesting. Like there was never any articles written on it during the duration of the show.

I hope that KBS gives them a reality show and other activities in order to continue to build hype for them, in that time between now and April. It would've been smart for them for them to cancel the fan meeting in the Gocheok SkyDome even before they advertised it because now their brand has taken a hit. Hopefully, they take all the effort that was going into organizing that big fan meeting and put it into aggressively promoting the groups before their debuts and gaining hype for them.
-
Damn, I really was so hype thinking the episode was today only to find out its Sunday. It honestly feels so weird at this point to have a Saturday morning without The Unit. It feels kinda empty.
-
I was literally about to say the same thing you said here in this post lol. Tbh for some reason, it actually was never something I worried that would happen and what you explained here is exactly the reason why. If TS promotes them right they'll be fine. It TS was smart they would get Nahyun a supporting role in a drama, and try and push High. D and Minjae on to singing shows. High.d honestly is probably one of the better girl group vocalists in this generation yet because she is so underrated people don't speak about her voice at all.

I've always been meaning to ask this too. Is there some truth to this?

Would it be possible for KBS to section off a part of the Gocheok Sky Dome so they don't have to use the whole venue, so the place won't look empty if a lot of people don't come? Also, I'm kinda confused why they decided to stay with the Gocheok Sky Dome venue as their first fan meeting place. I mean I get that KBS thought the show might be more successful in the beginning but they released the news of their fan meeting being in Gocheok Sky Dome towards the end of The Unit airing. I would think that even if they booked in advance at that point they would take a step back and move to a smaller venue that would still attract some sort of attention like the Olympic Gymnastic Arena like someone said. But now at this point, it's too late to move to a smaller venue because everybody already knows they said Gocheok Sky Dome it would look some type of way in they change the venue to a smaller place. Having a bunch of hype behind a newly debuting group is very important and it's why so many groups from smaller companies don't do well because they don't have hype. Hype comes from being from a popular company, a popular survival show, or just basically people feeling/ expecting you're going to be successful. I would say hype is built on the illusion of looking like you'll be successful. Many kpop fans don't really pay attention to nugu groups because they feel that them having a chance at decent success is completely hopeless. This is also why many popular groups have so many bandwagon stans who drop them once a bigger more popular groups comes around. So at this point, KBS needs to be careful on how they market the two groups and this fan meeting will be a major milestone if they somehow manage to pull it off.

This is so true tbh. People stayed coming at Timoteo saying that he doesn't deserve to be up there and they also felt like Donghyun hadn't done anything to be in the top 9 either but now all of a sudden they're outraged over them not making. Yeah, I call bs on that.
-
Ok so I know what I'm about to say may sound crazy but....... I think KBS should just say f it and give the final debuting groups a coed variety show/reality show. Yeah, I said it a coed variety/reality show. Like I find it interesting that so far a lot of people always say that one of the reasons M9 and The Unit didn't do as well as PD101 is because they are coed shows. And, I'm not saying that this is not a valid reason but I can't help but think that both these shows also kinda made sure there were no interactions between the boys and girls. I think instead of purposefully trying to keep the boys and the girls apart it's would've been interesting and perhaps made for more drama if they actually interacted. If KBS gives the debuting groups a coed variety show with an interesting concept I think a lot of people who didn't even bother watching The Unit would watch the show just because it's unusual to see boy groups and girl group interacting very that much and it's also sure to bring some type of drama. Like the whole premise for the first episode could be them finding out they can actually interact with each other and seeing all the awkwardness that would come with it because they know that doing or saying anything wrong would become a big deal. I think that this would actually bring in a lot of new attention to both groups.

Okay, so I woke up early just to watch this live and after going out and living life and having time to ruminate over everything that happened here are my thoughts and opinions on the final line up we have. I'll just give warning to anyone reading this right now that somethings I say may not be pleasant for some people's faves. So for the girls, all I'm going to say is that concepts wise they all don't mesh well together I mean having Lee Hyunjoo and Yang Jiwon in the same group is just a bit too much. Also, I'll come out and say that I'm one of those people who don't think Hyunjoo should be in the final lineup. I'm not going to go around saying malicious things about her but she really brings nothing to the group I mean the girl can't sing nor dance and they already have enough visuals in the group. But honestly, I will say that I find it interesting that so many people are coming for her and not for Yoonjoo who literally got in because she had Nu'est fans voting her because of them supporting her. At least for Hyunjoo's case, you can make the case that although she is not really talented she at least seems to have a fanbase that she'll bring to the group. I don't think you can say the same for Yoonjo though because the people who got her to the top aren't necessarily her fans and I honestly don't think she adds anything substantial to the group either. As for the boys case I'm happy Chan got in but I can't believe Marco really rose so high. Like if they were going to pick someone from the bottom who was never in the top 9 I feel like they should've went with Hangyul. His visuals are extremely on point and he would've bought a lot fans to the group just by people looking at him. Marco really adds nothing and he's not even a decent rapper. If they wanted a rapper they shouldn't have let Kanto get eliminated. Also, they did Seyong so wrong and I can't help but to think that maybe if they didn't evil edit him so much in the beginning maybe he would've made it. All in all I hope the final groups do well though, and hopefully, KBS goes all out in promoting them.

Honestly seeing both Euna and Suiji up there fighting for number 9 makes me reminds me about how several people in this thread said that The Ark stans are either going to have to choose to go behind euna or suji and can't split votes or else both of them might not make it. I really hope Euna makes it though
-
It would be nice if the girls debuted with a song like this: I think something like this would fit everyone concept wise. The cute girls would be able to fit because they wouldn't be pushed too much out of their comfort zones and the girl crush girls wouldn't have to be pushed too much to be cute. I think something like this would be a happy medium for everyone.

I think the only people that are going to be safe for the finals are Euijin, Semmi, N.ca, and Yebin for the girls. As for the boys, the people who I think are definitely safe are Jun, Euijin, and Feeldog. Apart from these contestants, nobody else is safe in my eyes. I think the boys' rankings in general are more unstable than girls so we'll probably have a lot of surprises on their end. I'm afraid that Donghyun and Daewon won't make it. I also think that k-fans will try and vote in a main vocal at the last minute for them. As for the girls, I fear that Yang Jiwon will not make it because she hasn't really caught any new fans from the show except for during her audition which she slayed. Her hype from that super boot has been dying though. Also, I think that between Euna Kim and Suji there is only a small chance for both of them to make it together, but as of now the possibility of only one of them making it is high. I see that people think Hyunjoo might break in but I feel like seeing as how she wasn't able to crack top 9 again even after getting benefit votes shows me that she might end up in the same position during the finals. I think ZN has a large chance of making it in the final lineup now that she is the only Laboum member left.

Also, I watched some of the Mix Nine performances and overall the performance quality of The Unit is better. But that is also because most of them are trainees while most of the M9 participants are trainees. Also, I think the person who I saw to talking about brand power or having hype behind the brand is correct. The Kpop market is a niche and companies like the Big 3 already have their own niches within that niche. While a show like PD101 has also built their own niche within that niche for being the first survival show to start this trend of debuting groups from shows. So honestly comparing this to M9 and PD101 you have to keep that in mind. Like if you think M9 might be a bit better off than The Unit just using the fact that they get more naver views you have to factor in the fact that YG was in charge of M9 I YG as a company has a bunch of rabid core fans willing to consume anything that ever comes out of that company so it would make sense for that to happen becuase there is already more brand power present for YG as a company in the Kpop market compared to KBS who is first and foremost a broadcasting company who wants to enter the kpop market throught this show. Lets not also forget the fact that there were actual YG trainees present on the show who made in their final 9 and then a JYP girl trainee who was number 1 forever even though she really isn;t a strong performer on stage from what I've seen for but apparently her Naver views were always high. All of this just shows that it's basically the hype behind the brand of YG and even JYP in this case which lead to this. There is also the fact that even with high Naver views M9's voting had a downward trend which means there were perhaps a lot of people watching their Naver videos because of band power hype but not enough of them committed to actually wasting their time to vote. Which to me is more important than just watching Naver videos. It's kind if of like how people hype up certain groups but don't waste their time to actually fully support. As for PD101, they have the advantage of being the first to do this type of thing in the KPop market. I will use Uber and Lyft for people to get an understanding of what I mean here. Uber was the first to successfully do a ride-hailing business using an app and you often hear people saying "oh you could just Uber there" instead of saying o"h could just Lyft there." This shows that Uber has more brand power hype than Lyft because they were the first to do so so people automatically think of it first and might even think it's better than Lyft which is debatable. Let's not forget that The UNit is airing right after PD101 S2's massive hype, and because of the PD101's brand power, you see a lot of people already talking about PD48 and getting ready to watch it. This is because the PD101 franchise has built a core audience within the Kpop market. Overall I am sure KBS did this project knowing that they have all these disadvantages. It's also easy to tell that it's their first time doing something like this while looking at all the mishaps along the way with the show. Whether or not they do this again will depend on how the final groups do and I am sure they are ready to go all out promoting the final groups because that is the only thing they can do right now to make up for their disadvantages in the Kpop market already. Also, I'm sorry you guys just realized I literally wrote a whole essay but I really just wanted to get my thought out and analyze this whole issue/ situation.

Damn, there is so much negativity in this thread lmao. Honestly, I feel like even if the boys were to debut like how they were they would be fine. A lot of popular groups now really don't have competent main vocals but they still succeed. I mean yeah netizens come at them for being untalented from time to time yet they still stay topping charts and people still stay buying their albums. I mean lets just be honest here. Kpop fans pretend to care about talent but yet stay ignoring some of the most talented people and we see that playing out here and in several of the survival shows already aired and we'll see it on the upcoming survival shows too. It just is what it is. Saying that though I do hope a main vocal makes into the top 9 for the boys, because having an actual competent main vocal gives groups more leeway to do an array of songs plus they'll definitely have someone to send Immortaltal Song to promote the group.
-
Honestly, I think that overall we have to worry about digital charting rather than physicals. I think the physical album sales will be decent especially for the boys. We have to factor in the fact that international fans will finally be able to participate by buying albums plus there is the fact that boys already have their own dedicated fandoms from their groups who will probably chip in. As for the girls for physicals, it seems DIA sells the most so I'm expecting we'll be getting at least half of what DIA usually sells plus half of what everybody else's groups usually sell, plus the new fans gained from the show. Overall though the digital charting is really what I feel uneasy about the most.

I think that the show not doing that well mainly has to do with the fact that it came after the giant that was PD101 S2. The target audience that the show wants is preoccupied with Wanna One and their offshoots. There is also the fact that Korea seems like it's tired of survival shows and both The Unit and MixNine premiered around the same time. Another thing I think affected it was the change its timeslot. There was a quite a drop in ratings after the timeslot change. I really don't know why KBS decided to do that. Also, I have to admit the first four episodes really did drag on so a lot of people formed an opinion that the show is boring and they didn't give it a chance after those first few episodes. But overall, I want to be optimistic about the debuting groups' futures. I mean if you think about it they have way more exposure from this show than they have ever had before. Seeing as how votes have gone up every round means that they at least have built a core fandom. I think the success of their debut will depend on how KBS markets them. I hope they give them a reality show after the show ends. I honestly think that they'll do decently even though they might not become wildly popular.
-
Ya'll KBS is really set on giving the girls the worst songs. I really hope their debut song isn't too cute cause looking at the members in the current top 9 there are so many girl crush members tbh. And it's interesting that Hyunjoo still fell out of top 9 with her bonus votes...
-
I saw how big the Gocheok Sky Dome is, and I have to say KBS really is reaching for the stars. I guess their whole motto with this project is go big or go home. If they fill iit up it'll be amazing though fingers crossed that this happens.

So far I've been lurking in this thread and haven't posted anything but as a fan who has followed Sonamoo since predebut, I think I need to clarify some things. TS is a shitty company and they do little to fully promote any of their artists. But in the beginning, since debut, the holy trinity of the group aka (Nahyun, D.ana, and Euijin) who are all the best dancers in the group and the centers for the group have always been the most popular members of the group. D.ana getting all this attention from people not within Sonamoo's fandom came from her being in IDOT and that wasn't from TS themselves pushing her but it was because she caught the attention of one the producers for the show and was thus given a chance. After this TS gave her the center position for their last two comebacks but TS usually rotates the main center position between Euijin, Nahyun, and D.ana anyway so it really just matters whose getting the most attention at the moment and who fits the concept the best. I'm sure for their next comeback with Euijin, Euijin will be the main center. Also every Sonamoo fan knows Euijin is a triple threat and that she can sing but keep in mind she has to compete with Minjae and HIgh. D for lines in the song who are main vocalists while she is the lead vocalist. Perhaps if Euijin was in any other group with weaker vocalists she would shine more but in Sonamoo Minjae and Hgh.D are way in front of her in terms on singing and also have a higher range than her when it comes to hitting high notes.D However, Euijin has shown her vocal abilities on many on the b-side tracks. One them being this one where she does one of the high notes: There is also the fact that she has to compete with Nahyun and D.ana when it comes to dancing, and stage charisma so it's only normal that people that don't really follow the group like that wouldn't really know just how capable she is. As for visuals she also has to compete with Nahyun, D.ana, and Newsun so its just really hard cause the whole groups is just really extremely capable but I like to think that that is why she is doing so well on The Unit and is able to shine. TS is shitty but they seem to train their idols really well and have a good eye for talent and stage presence.
