How would you guys feel if SM went for an AKB48 style concept? Lol I've been listening to their songs lately and for some reason they are incredibly bland to the point where Kpop looks like it's full of substance but I find myself really liking their songs. Anyways!
Obviously I don't mean a full blown out AKB48 with 100+ members (they can't anyways, it has been said that there's only 15-20 female trainees because they are heavily outnumbered by guys) but like a toned down version more similar to NCT's concept and adding on the concept of having their own theatre and performing (rotating every performance).
Idk, I think it'd be pretty cool. Like taking NCT and adding a dash of AKB48. It's funny how people say they want the girls to debut in a solid group but when people mention that rumour of everybody younger than Herin (including visual-star Lami) not debuting until next time they are like "no I want them to debut together!", well they are trainees, nothing is official which is why it's good not to get TOO attached to the thought of a member or lineup. But as much as y'all may dislike NCT concept, that's the solution to that problem.
Many people were torn with Mark debuting as a maknae with the older ones, or a leader for the younger ones. NCT gave him the opportunity to do both. If SM had just debuted another regular boy group, imagine how many of the NCT members you love would have never been exposed for MANY years?! Still I don't think there should be TOO many members (AKB48 only works because they are theatre-based and the same people can't perform over and over every single night).
Imagine, you can have all of SR16G. If Lami is too young now, no worries, she can wait to debut stress-free. The girls wouldn't be limited to concept either. You won't have a Black Pink (sorry) situation where all members are good at acting fierce and hip-hop except ONE who stands out and not for a good reason. Or even like DIA where all the members pull off acting cute except rapper Cathy who manages not to look tragic but it's SO obviously not her style.
you could just have the girls who are good at hip hop in a unit and any who aren't don't have to be in it. You won't have to put somebody who performs like CL in a unit with people who are cute like... Eunha or something. Or vice versa. Just like how Taeil wasn't in 7th Sense.
People also say there will be too many and they will not get individual time. As long as they don't have like over 30 members suddenly (that's where it would start getting potentially iffy) they would actually get a fair bit of time to shine. Once NCT and girl version of NCT develops, there would be two types of units, location units and style units. If you are in multiple of both (most NCT members rn) you will end up being quite busy actually. Plus imagine if they DID do a theatre like AKB48. Also, multiple units can even promote at once (clashes in members could be an issue tho lol BUT units aren't fixed so you can easily do a unit without the member who clashes).
In fact, I believe doing this unit with girls could even be more successful than boys. AKB girls can sell 1m+ in a day, and their fanmeets and programs make them seem more like relateable flexible girls rather than 'untouchable' idols.
