It's fine a lot of people do. In the context of idol groups, it is probably safe to say that there are some people who do get off with others in their group because they can't with other people, but the majority probably do because they are attracted to each other

Bi girls date more girls than if they went to co-ed schools. Straight girls in my school never have flings, they just get thirstier for boys. I think it would be relatively easy to make Lovelyz into a 'girl crush' group Mijoo and Jiae give off 'girl crush' vibes imo. A sub-unit would do well to establish them as girl crushes whilst not having to leave their cute concepts and risk losing a lot of their fanbase

If I remember correctly when they debuted Woollim wanted them to be 'girl crushes' which maybe why the concepts seem low-key gay?? Anyway the majority of their fanbase has turned out to be guys so :'(
