i can't wait to see their performance  :ahmagah:  i bet they'll totally slay

  3. Doesn't it seem contradictory to say that everything has to be based on realism and then just write an example using fantasy...  I can understand some realism in the message that a story tries to give. But i don't think slaying orcs, ringwraiths, and other mythical creatures with dwarves and elves while journeying to mount doom to destroy a magic ring that contains the essence of a demigod in Lord of The Rings is very realistic though i can agree that its message can be applied to humans in real life.

Why can't there be good writing with no significance?  An author can't write for fun?

Or do you mean that good writing has meaning even if the author never intended to put any in it?

well when I meant everything was based on realism i kinda meant that abstract issues such as stuff like love, honor, redemption, moralities whatever.  I mean i am a lover of science fiction and fantasy (thought more of the former more than the latter) and I find it more interesting if issues dealt in the real world can be transposed in a world where the fundamental laws of reality and physics are different am i making sense? lol.

well ofc an author can write for fun! i love reading fanfictions and most of those are generally just for fun but in my personal opinion good writing, the one that feels like it can become a classic because it transcends the period and society its written in to apply across all people universally, it has to have significance.

  4. Can someone help me define what good writing is?  Excluding the fact that the word "good" is subjective to begin with, i'm trying to see what is so objective about good writing besides the fact that a bunch of people who study language and storytelling for a living agree that "this shit is good and you should listen to us because we are experts at it".  Not trying to insult any books though, i don't really care about the praise that good books receive but good writing should be an objective category right?  So there should be some clear indications of what is good writing and what isn't because there's a formula right?

I feel like literature resonates differently within every person and i've seen too many different definitions that people have of good writing so i wanted some opinions about this.

kinda late but I'mma answer anyway ^^

for me good writing should have:

good world building if set in a fictional place and good research if set in the real world

well-rounded characters that have complex moralities. black and white characters are uninteresting

i don't like overly ornery language.  poetic language has its place but purple prose is annoying and if applied to characters always sets off mary sue vibes

everything has to be based on realism. i don't like the argument that people make that you can't expect realism if the story is like say fantasy because i believe that some issues are just fundamentally universal and things in the real world should be reflected in fiction to have any kind of significance.

  5. Err hello everyone..I used to be one of the biggest jyp stan ever lol when I first got into kpop 2pm, wondergirls, 2am, miss A were pretty much all that I listened to. i had to split the video into 10-second increments and put it in photoshop because i can't find any software for mac :horror: then i had to combine them into imovie and shizzzzz *faints from fatigue*

enjoy! give me views and views and moar views

    have you tried handbrake?

  7. I'd say give it a try, but don't expect it to wow you and get all hyped up like everyone else is.  It was a decent book, especially for a YA novel, since most YA now days are shit.

ok i will then ^^ yeah it's been a long time since i've like any YA novel.

but there must have been some good ones before lol. any recs?

  8. I've only read The Fault in Our Stars.  I went in with incredibly low expectations and came out pleasantly surprised.  It does have the cliche love story, but what I appreciated about the book the most was the humour that the book used when tackling the darker subject matter of death.

That being said, I don't have any intention nor interest in reading any other stories written by him, I feel as though he is the type that will somehow rinse and repeat his stories in other disguises, so once I've read one I think I've read them all.

I've read Paper Towns and Will Grayson Will Grayson and finished unimpressed and I noticed that all his characters seem very similar personality wise, he tries to hard to make them interesting.

I see. thanks.  I was just wondering if it's worth trying The Fault in Our Stars. I don't typically like those types of books but if it's worth the hype i wanna give it a try

  9. Is that thread focused purely on Korean album sales? Cause if so I can kind of understand the ranking. If it's taking into consideration Japan, CFs, other 2PM related publicity than they're being low-balled.

well you can't exactly fairly judge the "tier" of a group unless you include everything. selective achievements is ridiculous imo. and so is tier competitions like that tbh.  like does it really matter u__u
