  1. donten ni warau: 10000/10. so poignant, real, and beautiful. it focused on a small setting with a core group of characters but managed to express universal themes of the flaws and hope that comes from family, the strength and contradictions of love, dynamics of power, and the importance of laughter even in trying times.  it was a rather simple story compared to many animes and mangas i've come across but it's still precious all the same

  2. pls watch donten ni warau u guys. it's starting out slow but it'll get so much better. so much feels *__*

also seeing a lot of hype for seven deadly sins. anybody watching that? might check out akatsuki no yona and kisejuu next

  3. The Book Thief was really good, I read it a few years back and was surprised at how well a book that was geared towards children dealt with such dark material.

I really need to get a new library card, mine completely fell apart now, I haven't been in so long.  I remember trying to read Terry Pratchett books when I was younger but they never clicked with me, I think I should try again now, eventually...when I am done with my everlasting pile at home...

same. when i first read one of his books, i didn't like it that much but i'm trying again. also trying to get more into neil gaiman, I LOVED stardust. his writing is almost poetic

  4. having Death as a character reminds me of the Book Thief. one of the best books i've ever read. one of the most poignant and touching ones too. terry pratchett also has Death as a main character in his discworld books :D

I finally started going to the library again and i went batshit insane lol. i picked up mostly english comic books and mangas but I also picked up a russian classic called the master and the margarita, with a plot that sounds so trippy i love it, and 3 books by terry pratchett. :D

  5. i feel like it's gonna take me forever to finish Mistborn sigh. i hate ebooks. maybe i'll buy the book and finish reading it off that way.

i hate it when i have these books i want to read but i cant read them because im already reading other books OTL

    same lol

  6. Spice and Wolf

    8/10

This anime is not for everybody since it has a mostly laid back feel, a fairly slow pace, and is quite more cerebral than other mainstream animes. the plot is basically contained within the witty conversations about economics between the two main characters.  I loved it though.  I really liked the intellectual bits in the economics of being a peddler during medieval times. Not very dramatic yet it still manages to be intense and compelling.  It's a fairly simple yet smart anime.  It was calm without being boring and characters act reasonable in response to the circumstances that happen to them.  Holo is so delightful <3 and the OST is just great.

  7. I'm reading a non-fiction book atm 8D. it's called "Simplexity: Why Simple Things Become Complex (and How Complex Things Can Be Made Simple)" It's basically about a scientific field where the focus is how to break down complex systems. It's a really fascinating read. In fact, as I go through college, because of my major (Electrical Engineering) I've been reading more and more non-fiction...

I've also started reading japanese light novels, which are basically short novels with illustrations. I'm reading the Suzumiya Haruhi novels which is pretty well known to anime watchers and the Twelve Kingdoms which is fast becoming a favorite.

  8.

I watched 'Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief' on TV yesterday and found out it originated from a novel (no surprise there!), so I was wondering if anyone read it and could give me their opinion?

I've never watched it actually because reviews weren't the best. the book series, on the other hand, were fantastic. i still haven't read the final book lol but all the other books were really good, balancing mythology, mystery, adventure and comedy very well
