I think it's time to revisit her. This is amazing chest voice. Yeah, the song doesn't go that high, but the head voice is great too. She plays with the color of her voice very easily. Great depth. Even at 68, almost 69, she's still got a great chest voice: Let's be honest. If the lower notes from these two videos were in most other singers' repertoire, they'd be the highlights. In every range, vs video, etc., especially if we're speaking of the Kpop community, where perhaps she's most relevant. She's able to fluidly coordinate her voice to navigate difficult legato phrases. Great dynamic control. Forward sound. Her voice has great depth. Great body. Name any of the frequently-lauded mezzos in the online vocals community, and how many of them can do this? I guess I'm just lost at the point where we've somehow convinced ourselves that this isn't great singing because it's not past her upper passagio or that what she's doing isn't difficult. It very obviously is, and it's very obviously a level of singing that should be applauded, especially in a place like this where there's interest in great Korean vocals.

Merman sounds great here. She's really comfortable in her chest in this performance. Superb diction. Classic.

He's excessively nasal and breathy throughout. 25 seconds is pure air. Every time he tries to switch into a chestier sound, his voice gets really breathy. Instead of singing clearly with dynamics, he forces out a lot of excess breath when trying to sing softly. 45 seconds is another note that's pure air because he doesn't have the correct connection to sing the phrase. 1:00 minute in, the same thing. 1:00 - 1:12, he does it several times. Even really good sopranos can sing clearly in this range. 1:28 - he's obviously having trouble singing and drastically changes the coordination of his voice. You can argue that's stylistic, but I'm not buying it because he was obviously struggling before, and the shift is so jarring. It's still really airy. 1:47 - here he hits the note with more body, but it's nasal and just not fluid or coordinated well. Again, it's jarring from how he sings the phrase leading into the note. 2:03 - 2:10 more excess air. 3:10 - d#4 - so weak, thin, and nasal 3:23 - raises the key because he can't transition well from his mix to his chest, so he just raises the key there and does that. All I hear when I listen to him is air. I'm not saying he's a bad vocalist, but this just did not work for this song. Just for comparison -- and I'm by no means saying this version is perfect. He struggles on the lower notes, too -- but just notice how much more fluid Im Tae Kyeong is singing it. Far less airy, far more even tonality throughout the piece. He sounds much more comfortable than David singing this song. His voice is stronger. It's got more depth and better connection throughout. I mean, just compare Im Tae Kyeong's D#4 at 2:56 with David's at 3:10.

Ouch, this is bad.

Same. I went and looked them up just a few weeks ago for the first time since like high school and then just as quickly forgot them. Something about Simon always rubbed me the wrong way. I know that's silly because I've never met him, but it is what it is, I guess.

We've been this kind of thread. Y'all have done that to me for years no matter what I type, lol.

Her lower register is better than most sopranos in Kpop based off that. It sounded nice. She keeps a light and pretty sounding voice throughout the piece and shows some dynamic control as the song progresses.

Honestly, I'm not sure because I'm not too familiar with him. I just listened to the video, and the mics sounded fine. There were a lot of people singing, and it didn't look like they were trying to make a strong vocal performance of anything, so I can't really say anything about his voice except for the fact that the mics were fine.

Joe Biden Fractures Foot While Playing with Dogs

I wouldn't say that's all the microphone. A better singer would have been heard well on that same mic.

Is it common for people in your country/region to smile at strangers?
KoreaxxLove replied to GrumpyCatt's topic in Random
Yes, I smile at everyone. These days, I do it and realize they can't even see because I'm wearing a mask. Oh well, lol -
I just said that so it didn't seem like I was defending their vocal abilities. I just think kpop vocalists tend to be pretty nasal stylistically, with even the good ones being noticeably nasal quite often.
-
I'm not saying I think any of them are great, but just going through and listening, their nasality seems pretty common among Kpop vocalists, even among the better ones.

Yeah, if you're having consistent issues with pitch, there's definitely something wrong with your fundamental technique. Pitch is really important, and like you said, it obviously isn't perfect 100% of the time, but it can't just be divorced from technique. It's a big part of singing.

On a scale from 1-10, how "into politics" are you?

Actually it is. You're right that everyone is pitchy at some point, but that doesn't mean it can be used to judge someone's technique. Someone routinely singing off pitch likely has some technical issues to address.

Most of this is nonsense. Trump's got a net worth in the billions with assets that easily cover the value of the loans he has. If anything, the Presidency has likely upped the value of his brand. Trump drove the highest voter turnout ever for an incumbent President (and, quite honestly, he drove the turnout for Biden, too). I don't think there's anything that will come to his business negatively because of this. That being said, I believe it's about casting doubt so that he doesn't "lose"--at least not in the mindset of nearly half the country. In short, narcissism.

I'm saying he has nothing to show for it in the way of advancing world peace. My goodness. How dense can you be?

I never denied that Obama got a Nobel. I said he didn't do anything to earn one. Proving, once again, just how incredibly stupid you are. Trump, on the other hand, has earned 4 Nobel Prize nominations for 2021 because of his work in the Middle East--where, you know, he's actually helping bring peace. Something Obama NEVER did.
