wae you overtake my place.

Just realized I was put in the OP.
I'm honored, but I'd like to ask if you'd not put my name in red. It's bad luck.

For Opera standards idk, but for like contemporary pretty damn amazing. I believe she's using a mic because the area is a large area not because she can't project. Seriously, look at how big of a space that is, there is no way any one voice can fill the space with just their natural projection.
Yeah, I agree that it's due to the space. It really irks me when I go to a video of an opera singer singing in large concert venues or (ESPECIALLY) outdoor arenas and see people commenting like, "Not a real opera singer! She's using a mic!" Like, seriously.

Anyway, I'm not professing to be an opera expert or anything, but compared to what I usually hear, it doesn't sound as smooth and refined as let's say Sumi Jo. (But, that is Sumi Jo). I don't know if there are technical faults or anything, but the sound isn't as smooth. I actually prefer it over Callas for this aria. I always thought her voice was a bit harsh and unnatural sounding in it (I know that's subjective).

Am I the only one here that hates descriptive writing?
like really descriptive writing..
It makes me put down any book almost instantly--unless it's REALLY good otherwise.

I don't understand what you are getting at, I'm comfortable with my age lol. It's the fact that I gained 4lbs 9 days before prom is what is getting to me. I want to be able to fit my dress, which was fitted when I was 4lbs less v.v.
My prom "date" ditched me for her new bf a week before prom. ã… ã… I ended up not going. Prom woes. The struggle's real. >_<
To keep this relevant, I'll drop an unexpected comment that I listened to 소향's "Let It Go" and was surprised at how much I liked it.

yeah I was like wtf...
Ik I dont mind, I'm just saying it happened once as I recall it..
Yknow something I've been wondering, where does your knowledge of vocals even come from? Do you have any real background or you're just a listener stating, as you called it, "facts"
Eh, I've done reading for a few years, but nothing ever formal. I'm considering adding it as a minor, though.
I've stated here before that I'm not an expert. LOL But, I'm not so basic as to not know strain, tension, or throatiness when I hear it or to not know what proper resonance and a healthy vibrato sound like. Beyond that, my knowledge gets murky to nonexistent.
-
Nah, I'm not.
You know if one note out of several thousand notes are flaw free, you can't use one floppy note as a reason as to why someone is crap to you. This is why we have consistency. Everyone has their bum days. Also, what makes you think that Sohyang's "throaty" notes wasn't stylistic; huh? I mean, all of HQ's terrible notes are stylistic, so why can't Sohyang's be? Hm?
Because Huang Ma sings that way in specific styles and not in others. SoHyang was singing that song (this one in particular was "Fate") the same way she does every time until her voice went throaty. That's why. And, I've seen at least two or three performances of Fate where she goes throaty.
But, I don't have any desire to debate SoHyang anymore. It's a lost cause.
EDIT: I am not even trying to say that anyone is crap to me. I have never called SoHyang anything other than a great vocalist.
-
Besides like once, I've yet to hear this so called sohyang throatiness.. It happened once.. I really need to hear it again as u make it sound like it happens often
No, Akisame just said her throatiness was non-existent, which is not a fact. I did not mean to imply you stated it as if it happened all the time.

-
AhMin also relies on SLS though and we all know how reliable that is (and if you hadn't noticed I have been absent from this thread for a very long time, so I only what's happened in the last few pages).
No, I'm using it in retrospect to back up my point about how you don't know how to tell good notes from bad notes and how you and your brother shouldn't be trusted when it comes to vocalism.
Lol, you have used them interchangeably many times! ALSO I don't think you know what a comfort zone is either.
I don't agree with everything he says, but I know that AhMin knows what throatiness sounds like. Seesh. You're trying TOO hard.

I do know how to tell, and most of Huang Ma's notes that people love to critique are stylistic. That's all I'm going to say about that.
I didn't. I just see proper vocal projection as depending in some part on having resonance if the note is produced properly.
-
*So do I. And lul you really believe that?

Ummm ... "As do I" is perfectly acceptable as far as I know?
Yes.
-
I'm not trying anything because I've never said her supposed and no existent throatiness (which just goes to show you don't know what a spinto soprano sounds like ahem) is due to "amazing breath support".
Please, explain to me why that Chinese woman with the initials HQ has a glottal in her belts if she's meant to be oh-so-fabulous (and NOT your bias). You're either kidding yourself or well grossly biased you don't even know it.
oI know how to read sweetie, but I often see you use projected and resonant interchangeably
. Oh, resulting to an ad hominem argument is always a beautiful thing to witness xoxo.Even AhMin admitted one video of Sohyang was throaty. Deal with it.
I'm not arguing anymore about Huang Ma. That's dead and gone, and you're looking for something to argue about, and I'm just not going to do it.
No, I don't. I'm not doing it to support my argument. You're just too thirsty for an argument right now--so much so that you're either twisting my words or not reading carefully.
-
I know the difference between a quietly sung note and a "quiet" note. FYI. Congratulations on growing Nicki Minaj's ears.
True true.
As do I.
-
Lbh, anything their bias sings is resonant.

Projected =/= resonant.

I didn't say it was. I said that not all her notes are quiet. Projected =/= quiet. Learn to read.
-
Lbh, anything their bias sings is resonant.
esLHS isn't my bias.
Let's be honest, anything SoHyang does (even if it's a result of strain in other singers) automatically turns into her amazing technique--even her throatiness has been attributed to her amazing breath support here before, so don't even try.
-
Also anything quiet too. /referring to LSH's "amazing resonant lower register" when in reality it can get quiet.
It gets quiet when she sings softly. But, that's because she's singing softly.

Seriously, I got negged for saying LSH lower register >> SoHyang's. It's the truth. LSH can project pretty well in her lower register. That's just a fact. That's not saying EVERY note she sings is projected (not every note is intended to be), but it can be. Why's it so hard for some people to accept that?
-
Because you think anything loud is resonant.
No, I don't.

Mhmm I for one am sure your twin can't tell resonance since he called Tiffany's B4 resonant. You called that lee sun hee low note resonant too, which is also incorrect so I'm pretty confident in saying that you guys might not always be able to clearly identify resonance.
No you're right. Middle = mix, but you said you like her belts right? That's also her mix
Ahhh
Awwww thanks. It could be a number of reasons, as it's in an effect in a way, vibrato isn't produced if you don't relax your throat well, if you don't have proper breath support, if there's tension, if you need to waver in pitch with an unnatural vibrato you can easily make it happen, but a healthy natural vibrato needs for you to relax into it and let the pitch go slightly up and under.
I am not him.

-
whaaaat nooo don't move the jaw >_<
Then you did not understand me cuz there's nothing contradictory about it. I said don't call it resonant because you personally feel something is resonant when you can't completely tell resonance at this point. Like my whole point was don't say "I'd call it resonant" because you can't personally identify resonance, and so I said "I wouldn't call it resonant" because I'm emphasizing point even further that no it wasn't resonant and if you can't tell resonance, don't just call something resonant. Projected =/= resonant. You can project with your nose for all I care, you can be partially projected, but still not quite resonant. It's all possible.
I was wondering too
Nice insight you made for me, but I don't see how you reached your conclusion.
Anyway, I don't agree with your opinion, but I don't see a point in debating it.

-
Well sorry, my post contradicts itself because......? I'm saying it's not resonant, it's just supported. There's a very clear different between the two. Well I have no problem saying yes her lower register is considerably better than Sohyang's, and I was never really not expecting that yknow? I mean yeah it's Sohyang having a better lower register than her ain't exactly hard, but yeah she does have it. So apparently her head and mix are more resonant, that now would be something I would need to hear. I just re-read my post, maybe you misunderstood me but I see no contradiction.
this cutie. lol
The contradiction was that you told me not to say "I'd call it resonant," but you said, "I wouldn't call it resonant."
But, I understood your meaning, so it's all good.

I love this song, she looks so adorable
(DOGE OH GOD)and for fun, Minah and Sojin version (I've just noticed LSH was there lol)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfLJILshFIo
Anyone know what song is Sojin "rapping" at 2:00?
There's a performance of that from LSH was young that's really good. OH. Found it.
Really old school. LOL
-
Yeah, me too.. That would be sad for her...
I think the same than Nikinik, so I'd say soprano
Not... With.. AhMin.

What'd I do with AhMin? -
oops. quoted myself again

This is all over my FB right now, and I figured it's worth a laugh, a sneer, or whatever you want to throw at it. Axl Rose as the "world's greatest vocalist." Sorry if it's been posted already.
