  1. ?

Whitney is known for her gospel jaw, which MOST people consider a technical flaw. The only place I've ever seen excusing it is this forum. Now, I'm not taking sides, but basically, in many of her performances, Whitney's jaw is moving and shaking--sometimes it looks like she's trying to eat the microphone. Some people attribute that to her trying to produce an unnatural vibrato. Some attribute it to her resonance being so powerful and her jaw being so relaxed that it naturally shook. Now most of what I've read says it's a technical flaw, and I've read before that it's a result of poor air flow between the vocal chords that causes tension in the jaw and makes it shake. Well, obviously, if Whitney is achieving the ring and her jaw is shaking, there shouldn't be any tension, and that's why some people would say it's because of her big resonance and relaxed jaw muscles.

I have read before, though, that you shouldn't be so relaxed that your jaw looks like it's swinging off a hinge. Is there any merit to that?

  2. Is SoHyang better than Sumi Jo?

No, Sumi Jo is better and has a more developed instument. That being said, it is weird to compare, but I don't think it is impossible to. In fact, I believe some people in this forum have told me that having differing styles does not preclude comparisons (maybe that person meant within contemporary singing?). Sumi has sang some contemporary before, and it's not bad, but it sounds weird. Really weird. I don't care much for SoHyang, but she is more suited to the contemporary style of singing. I just believe that generally speaking, the skills Sumi Jo has are more varied and harder to obtain than what contemporary singers have. And, the fact that Sumi Jo is widely regarded by many as one of the best--for some the best--opera singer in the bel canto style really places her above most other opera singers, too. Sumi has a greater degree of control over her voice and has more resonance. Her scale is more even. Of course, the style of opera does require this more than contemporary singing, but just viewing it from a point of technique (and not styles) is heavily lopsided in Sumi Jo's favor. Sumi Jo also has great musicality and perfect pitch--which, doesn't necessarily make her better but is pretty cool. XD I do agree, though, that it is unfair and weird to compare any non-opera singer to a highly respected opera singer like Sumi Jo.

  3. a member here totally just dangled his sister in my face and then snatched her away :soul:

He texts me pictures of her and I of course reply 'your sister is pretty' (which she really is!) and he tells me a bit more about her and sends me more pics (she is freaking hella pretty) so I tell him to tell her she has an admirer. He replies "feel free to talk to her ;)" and I reply "are you serious? cause I will, does she like girls?" and he says "yeh, she's bi, do you want her number?". So he tells her I'm interested and she says we can talk but just as friends (which I sort of am ok with but not really cause I already am approaching her for a bit more and being friends would just be awkward -I told him this- ) and he replies 'I was only thinking of a friendship' (I guess in me and his sister talking). Which is like grrrr cause he clearly made it seem like he was trying to hook us up in the beginning. I'm ok with her not wanting to talk talk but he shouldn't try to change it like that's what he meant from the beginning

:donthinkso:  Like ... he should have known by sending pics and saying she was bi that it was teasing, right? It's like he wanted you to find her pretty but not make any moves or something. I mean, if he had just wanted you to be friends, he didn't need to send so many pictures--especially after you showed interest.  :unimpressed:

  4.

haha that just gives you a reason to cling onto him :hurr: (assuming he can skate)

he might, you never know. If anything it'll be something new for him. You can always explain it to him and 'guide' him to seeing the beauty in it lol

If not, we can cling and fall over each other.  :hurr: My mom is so good at skating. Maybe she can give me some pointers before I go. LOL

I hope so, but he still REALLY likes China. He plays traditional Chinese instruments and even has a $2000 pipa. I'm trying to get him to see the beauty of the great American South, though.  :datass:

  5.

I think I will. I'm going to the library tomorrow so i'll check it out.

UGH isn't she?! When I saw this performance I just had to have it as my sig.

first of all, Maleficent isn't just some evil bitch, she is THE evil bitch. That whole character makes evil so elegant and intriguing. Also Angelina Jolie is one bad ass mofo and (from the trailers) looks like she is acting her ass off in the movie. Last, everyone loves a good reversal movie/story. It's always interesting seeing the same story from another person's (exp. the antagonist's) perspective

give him head... I'm totally joking lol

hmmm, maybe you can plan a 'date day'. Go to the beach, then maybe out skating (where I live skating rinks -roller skating- are super cheap and fun), since you said he is fairly new to America take him sight seeing (though that requires some gas money) or for a stroll at a local downtown area or boardwalk (I'm thinking about where I live so you may not have these things), then a Netflix movie night

Oh~~ Skating is fun!! But, I'm sooo bad at it. XD haha It's worth a shot.

There's a large lake behind my dad's house. Maybe I can take him there and do something, too.

Downtown in my city has some really beautiful Southern architecture, but I'm not sure if he'd appreciate it as much as I do. XD I think it's gorgeous, though.

Netflix Night  :ahmagah:  :ahmagah:  :ahmagah:  :ahmagah:  :ahmagah:  :ahmagah:

  6. ??? It was bad though.

I agree, it doesn't look very good and I hate things remade from other points of view.

Cook for him? Make his favorite meal and really put thought into it.

I'm so bad at these things OTL

I cooked for him once!! XD He said he liked it.  :ahmagah:

He's Chinese, though. He's only been here for a year, so he's not really used to eating American-style food yet.  :derp:  But, I like this idea a lot because I really love to cook. I won't attempt Chinese food, but maybe I can cook him something else.  :chu:  Thanks!

  7. Y'ALL. I need some advice!!  :derp:

I'm leaving the country for a month, so I can't really see my boyfriend, but when I come back we plan to meet. Anyway, I don't have a lot of money (and he does), but I really want to do something special for him, preferably something that doesn't require much money. Does anyone have any ideas? I plan to take him to the lake and go hiking and stuff, but I really want to do something special. Any ideas?  :chu:

  8. TO ALL THOSE PEEP WHO SAY GODZILLA WAS BAD, BITCH SLAPPED YOU!

What MALEFICENT????? ummm can ask what is soo good about maleficent?? Last i check she was a evil BITCH in Sleeping Beauty. So what is soo good about maleficent?!? Oh come on i know ya just gonna say because Angelina Jolie plays her! :wth:  and that is going to be a One-hit-kill.

It wasn't bad. It was just okay. Maybe if Angelina Jolie had been in there, it would have been good.  :hurr:

  9. :ahmagah: I feel like I'm the only one who didn't have questions at the end of the book.

A ton of people from my class read it and they were all confused and had questions about the ending, but I feel like I know what happened.

    SPOILER ALERT

I for one think that the baby was already dead. I think it died right before he tied it to his chest with the blanket. I also think that he was delusional by the end and I think that at the end when he saw that hill and made it to the house for christmas that he had died. Either that or was extremely delusional.

    Aww, that sounds precious  :ahmagah:

    It was so good though.

Ummm ... I have to agree with

you guys are making me want to reread it. I read that book a super long time ago, your spoiler didn't even make sense to me lol that's how long its been

This post. XD I can't quite remember. But ...

I always thought he made it and that everything was fine. xD I didn't have that great of critical reading skills then, so I'll have to be really careful when reading it this time.

  10.

don't feel left out, I haven't seen it yet either. This lady hired me to choreograph a dance for her daughter to 'Let It Go' and I was like ??? lol

YAY. :ahmagah:  I'm not alone~~ I have a friend online, and we always dance together and sing. She played "Let It Go" a million times, and I felt left out because all I knew was "Let it go~ let it go~~" I want to see it, but I'm not THAT big on movies XD

  11. I bought the dvd and I never buy dvds. It's that good.

I do too!!!!  :ahmagah:  :ahmagah:  :ahmagah:

:stare: Have you read the book?! Please say yes!

Yes.  :ahmagah:  :ahmagah:  I looooooooooove it. I went and ordered it today!! I plan on reading it with my boyfriend. He's not a native speaker of English, so I'm trying to encourage him to read more!! (And, it gives us a reason to go see another movie together.  :chu: ) It's one of my all-time FAVORITE books.  :lub:

  12.

that movie looks like its hella boring.

    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    :chu:  :chu:  :chu:  :chu:

That movie was terrible. I was really excited about it and I don't normally go see movies unless they look really good to me. There was barely any godzilla, it was mostly Army and Mothra.

    :ahmagah: Awwww

It sucked. I went and watched it with one of my best friends and we agreed it was horrible.

I read a review that was to the effect of "nothing cuts Godzilla down more than being a supporting character in his own movie."  :hurr:  :hurr:  So true.

aww man is Godzilla really that bad? i wanted to see it ~ but Maleficent does look really good ~

If you're going to pick between the two, I'd say definitely watch Maleficent, and I haven't even seen it. Godzilla was so far off-base with the original that it really irked me. The battle scenes were okay, and the acting was okay, but it wasn't what I thought it'd be, you know?  :soul:

Edit: I did watch it in 3D which made the ticket price too high, but the 3D was better in this movie than in most others I've seen. It wasn't just random stuff flying out towards you. It seemed better place. I think that was the best part of the movie.

  13. Like i said

I wanted to know how would a person would sound like if she/he sang at C4??

    Buttt nvm lol

Well, the note would be C4, but the voice would be different person to person. Or, do you mean how low/high a C4 is compared to other notes? Your question isn't as clearly worded as you seem to believe.  :imstupid:

  14. damn that is horrible. At least the older guy didn't egg them on (though he should have at least apologized).

Other than that was your date nice?

Yeah, it was nice. We went to see Godzilla. The movie wasn't that great, but I'd only slept three hours the night before, so I just grabbed his hand and rested on his shoulder. It was really relaxing.  :chu:

  15.

just when you think society is taking a step forward it takes three back.

I always think the newer generations are going to be less and less ignorant but I volunteer at an elementary school and even the kids there make 'ur gay' jokes. I want to take their parents and put them in vacuum chambers

We were at the mall, headed to the movie theater, when this middle-aged man and a group of like five kids walked by. The oldest kid literally started yelling, "LOOK, IT'S A HOMO. NEVER THOUGHT I'D SEE ONE. A HOMO!! LOOK! A HOMO." And the man (the dad?) just said, "Shhhh." I was tempted to tell the kid that he had no home training, but I ended up just walking on. =\
  16. Mhmm I don't need to lip sync resonant notes, I just resonate myself ^ ^

My take on bulging veins is, Taeyeon's neck had no real bulging veins, it was just the normal position of her neck, but if you can see the veins bulging like they're about to explode, or like the neck is squeezing to get the note out, that's REAL vein tension and neck tension, but veins in your neck just depends how naturally a person looks..yknow some ppl have bulging veins naturally, it's just a thing.. or some don't, now if it's something random that happens and looks ..yknow gross, then okay. Forehead veins is not something I've seen..LOL

I'm not sure about that specific video because I didn't watch it. XD So, if that comment were made about that video, I misunderstood it.

    Yeah, some people do.  :derp:

I've seen forehead veins a few times, and when I searched it the article I read mentioned it as strain trying to reach higher notes, but the time I saw the vein, the person wasn't singing that high, so IDK how accurate it was. I've seen singers who are sick with forehead veins, too, when they sing, so I personally think it might be strain, but I don't know how common it is.

  17. Bulging veins does not mean strain.

I've read a lot that contradicts that statement. Not saying you're wrong, but from what I've read bulging neck/head veins at least COULD be a sign of strain. I read a long thing the other day that argued that neck veins if seen with those who are using proper technique anyway could be a natural result from singing, but I've never seen anything that supports the idea that forehead veins bulging isn't strain.
