Not saying you're wrong, but that's a lot of video to look through, so it would have helped if you'd have put times. I'm skipping through, but I'm not seeing it. Certainly not to the extent Whitney's shook. Joan Sutherland, Sumi Jo, and Natalie Dessay sound SO beautiful, though.

I'm honestly not familiar with Whitney enough to have an opinion about hers one way or the other, but I did see one performance where it just appeared more forced than a relaxed jaw. Maybe she was doing it on purpose, but I honestly don't know why she would. I read once that it might be a remnant of Whitney growing up singing in churches or something, but I don't know. And, I read somewhere yesterday (can't remember where), and I don't know if the source were credible or not, so if anyone has an opinion/more information on it, I'm more than glad to be corrected or whatever, but they were saying in bel canto technique, jaw shaking is never proper, and I know at least within opera, really good singers don't have this problem. I read an article about a certain pop singer being trained in bel canto technique and about how she attempted to fuse a lot of bel canto style into her own pop music, and she also does not have a wobbly jaw. I've even seen some people (granted, this is within opera) who throw a fit if even the LIP quivers slightly. But, I have read before that it can be simply to inattention/resonance/and relaxed jaw, but that inattention like that, while not necessarily a technical flaw, is a visual detractor.

DANG. I meant to quote whoever put that question mark. I wasn't going on a Whitney tirade, I promise. I like Whitney. I just forgot to quote someone. I should edit it. Thanks. Oh, did I quote it? It was already there when I went to edit, but I didn't see it in my post. Weird. >_< Anyway, I hope that answered your question.

Whitney is known for her gospel jaw, which MOST people consider a technical flaw. The only place I've ever seen excusing it is this forum. Now, I'm not taking sides, but basically, in many of her performances, Whitney's jaw is moving and shaking--sometimes it looks like she's trying to eat the microphone. Some people attribute that to her trying to produce an unnatural vibrato. Some attribute it to her resonance being so powerful and her jaw being so relaxed that it naturally shook. Now most of what I've read says it's a technical flaw, and I've read before that it's a result of poor air flow between the vocal chords that causes tension in the jaw and makes it shake. Well, obviously, if Whitney is achieving the ring and her jaw is shaking, there shouldn't be any tension, and that's why some people would say it's because of her big resonance and relaxed jaw muscles. I have read before, though, that you shouldn't be so relaxed that your jaw looks like it's swinging off a hinge. Is there any merit to that?

No, Sumi Jo is better and has a more developed instument. That being said, it is weird to compare, but I don't think it is impossible to. In fact, I believe some people in this forum have told me that having differing styles does not preclude comparisons (maybe that person meant within contemporary singing?). Sumi has sang some contemporary before, and it's not bad, but it sounds weird. Really weird. I don't care much for SoHyang, but she is more suited to the contemporary style of singing. I just believe that generally speaking, the skills Sumi Jo has are more varied and harder to obtain than what contemporary singers have. And, the fact that Sumi Jo is widely regarded by many as one of the best--for some the best--opera singer in the bel canto style really places her above most other opera singers, too. Sumi has a greater degree of control over her voice and has more resonance. Her scale is more even. Of course, the style of opera does require this more than contemporary singing, but just viewing it from a point of technique (and not styles) is heavily lopsided in Sumi Jo's favor. Sumi Jo also has great musicality and perfect pitch--which, doesn't necessarily make her better but is pretty cool. XD I do agree, though, that it is unfair and weird to compare any non-opera singer to a highly respected opera singer like Sumi Jo.

Like ... he should have known by sending pics and saying she was bi that it was teasing, right? It's like he wanted you to find her pretty but not make any moves or something. I mean, if he had just wanted you to be friends, he didn't need to send so many pictures--especially after you showed interest. -

If not, we can cling and fall over each other. My mom is so good at skating. Maybe she can give me some pointers before I go. LOL I hope so, but he still REALLY likes China. He plays traditional Chinese instruments and even has a $2000 pipa. I'm trying to get him to see the beauty of the great American South, though. -

Oh~~ Skating is fun!! But, I'm sooo bad at it. XD haha It's worth a shot. There's a large lake behind my dad's house. Maybe I can take him there and do something, too. Downtown in my city has some really beautiful Southern architecture, but I'm not sure if he'd appreciate it as much as I do. XD I think it's gorgeous, though. Netflix Night -

I cooked for him once!! XD He said he liked it. He's Chinese, though. He's only been here for a year, so he's not really used to eating American-style food yet. But, I like this idea a lot because I really love to cook. I won't attempt Chinese food, but maybe I can cook him something else. Thanks! -

Y'ALL. I need some advice!! I'm leaving the country for a month, so I can't really see my boyfriend, but when I come back we plan to meet. Anyway, I don't have a lot of money (and he does), but I really want to do something special for him, preferably something that doesn't require much money. Does anyone have any ideas? I plan to take him to the lake and go hiking and stuff, but I really want to do something special. Any ideas? -

It wasn't bad. It was just okay. Maybe if Angelina Jolie had been in there, it would have been good. -

Yes. I looooooooooove it. I went and ordered it today!! I plan on reading it with my boyfriend. He's not a native speaker of English, so I'm trying to encourage him to read more!! (And, it gives us a reason to go see another movie together. ) It's one of my all-time FAVORITE books. -

I read a review that was to the effect of "nothing cuts Godzilla down more than being a supporting character in his own movie." So true. If you're going to pick between the two, I'd say definitely watch Maleficent, and I haven't even seen it. Godzilla was so far off-base with the original that it really irked me. The battle scenes were okay, and the acting was okay, but it wasn't what I thought it'd be, you know? Edit: I did watch it in 3D which made the ticket price too high, but the 3D was better in this movie than in most others I've seen. It wasn't just random stuff flying out towards you. It seemed better place. I think that was the best part of the movie. -
Well, the note would be C4, but the voice would be different person to person. Or, do you mean how low/high a C4 is compared to other notes? Your question isn't as clearly worded as you seem to believe.

Yeah, it was nice. We went to see Godzilla. The movie wasn't that great, but I'd only slept three hours the night before, so I just grabbed his hand and rested on his shoulder. It was really relaxing. -

We were at the mall, headed to the movie theater, when this middle-aged man and a group of like five kids walked by. The oldest kid literally started yelling, "LOOK, IT'S A HOMO. NEVER THOUGHT I'D SEE ONE. A HOMO!! LOOK! A HOMO." And the man (the dad?) just said, "Shhhh." I was tempted to tell the kid that he had no home training, but I ended up just walking on. =\ -

Encountered a group of homophobes on my first real date with my boyfriend. T.T Sad thing is, they were all younger than twelve. -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4hZk8ciN-A 7:13 on ... What a finish. Beautiful note. Can't believe she's practically 50.

Yaaayyyy. I'm not really good with notes. Is the Bb5 the second video? Again, thanks!

What's the note around 2:30? G5? And around 3:50 in this one? Thanks, y'all.

Well, you'd have to be pretty big for your neck to be hidden, I think. And, ideally, for your overall health and for your voice, you shouldn't be big enough to hide your neck.
