  1. I think the fact that they are still casually mentioning Hoya as part of past anecdotes is great. More than anything it shows us that it was not a messy break. Naturally they might still be expected to be polite about it for diplomacy’s sake when they are directly asked about him, but the fact that they still feel all the anecdotes about him from when he was part of Infinite are comfortable fodder for small chat speaks volumes about how they feel. I am happy about this.
  2. HAHAHA I gotta watch that Yes ok sorry, I was confused too for a sec XD thank you
  3. I feel like Kyu is truly a rocker, he rolls out of bed and into eyeliner, huahuahua Wait isn’t 6 pm KST 10 am Greenwich time?
  4. I like how we all infallible zeroed in on the best tracks hahaha Can't wait to watch the replay!
  5. Ok guys sorry if it was already clear, but: which Korean time is the vid getting released?
  6. Hahah yes, he just doesn't have the vocal cords for scream, he sounded like a baby pterodactyl but I think he had learnt his lesson. Yes, alt-rock is also called soft rock, and it's very much Nell's style. I feel like Kim Jong-hwan is the elephant in the room when it comes to Kyu's musical inspiration. I think the problem is that Infinite now have a history of original rap-writing and singing - and that takes training and time. I don't think Sungyeol would have had time to train to become that in the short months since Hoy left, but he had showed interest in the craft before, so it is entirely possible Dongwoo may be doing it solo in the interim and then Sungyeol may be practicing in view of rising as rapper when Dongwoo enlists. I was also struck by the fact that, at least from the preview, Dongwoo seems to have taken over the more singing parts usually Hoy would have had? Hoy's range seems to hover between Dongwoo's and Woohyun's, so for me it had been a toss-up which one of them would take over his lower parts. (Obligatory moment of sadness about Hoy's parts having to be divided )
  7. Warning, this may get a little maudlin, but I need to get it off my chest - I am so very happy this comeback seems to be putting Dongwoo front and centre. So, so happy. He is so talented and I am so tired of seeing him overlooked and stereotyped - so many Inspirits just dismiss him as a "happy pill", this funny strange guy that is just there for a bit of light relief and nothing else. And there is so much more to him. I don't want to sound delulu but so often he will say something so quietly wise, so deep, and behind the scenes he seems to do so much to keep the group together - he seems their heart in so many ways. Yes, there is nothing that we can do to persuade the majority of kpop fans that he is the beautiful, sensual man we are so struck by, but to see our own fandom dismiss him so hurts me to no end. So many Inspirits have always seemed to think Dongwoo needs nothing and doesn't have much to contribute - he is just so overlooked. That is not me being salty or wanting to bash other members. I completely understand that in a numerous group some people rise to the fore and some people don't. But to see Woollim itself so seldom gave him a chance like this - that hurt. When in The Eye I saw he had the second verse I almost cried. I don't say this in a fangirly way - I just so respect and admire his art. I hope with this album, other people can see him too, and among Inspirits as well he will be better considered. --- End maudlinness, carry on.
  8. THIS ERA SLAYS ME From a purely technical standpoint, putting your voice in your nose is a shortcut to achieving high notes when you do not have the technique to do it by putting it "in the mask", aka by making your voice resonate through your face. Given that Sungkyu's natural range is quite high, he simply could not sing in a lower register without going off tune for the early times of his career. The issue is that kpop has relatively few tunes for people with low voices, because they are not considered as technically accomplished or good for songs (ridiculous, but it is what it is, even TOP, whose natural voice seems to fall in a similar range to Dongwoo's, gets short parts in BigBang's songs because of it). In short, I think Sungkyu has been encouraged to capitalize on his natural high notes, improving his technique to do it has allowed him to both sound less nasal when he does it and sing in a lower register too. However, Sungkyu has a longstanding interest in rock techniques, and an intentional nasal singing style is one of those. There are some rock effects his voice is just too thin for (a moment of silence for his last tragic attempt at doing scream, I love you my baby but NO) (minute 3.20) But I always got the impression the style he favours is breathy alt rock in the expressive bits, and technique for the higher notes
  9. And Dongwoo era too Sungkyu likes singing in an alt rock style, breathy, off key, and sometimes nasal. It's where he started from. You can hear it the most when he sings Come back again, even now. It's a style, not a matter of ability
  10. Learn from myself and Dongwoo sensei: "Be extra af all the time, my child, and you will never go wrong"
  11. Buckle up, I have feelings about the tracks: 1) I ADORE THIS INTRO AND I RESENT IT IS NOT AN ACTUAL SONG 2) NEGHE NEGHE TORAWAJO, BOP FOREVER TBH 3) SYNCHRONISE IS ANOTHER BOP, YASS KINGS 4) I MEAN I GUESS THEY NEEDED ONE BALLAD BECAUSE KOREA EATS BALLADS LIKE TREES EAT SUNLIGHT 5) I WANTED ANOTHER SLOW SAD PASSIONATE SOLO BUT HE SOUNDS LIKE HE IS HAVING FUN, GO MY BABY DW 6) I RESERVE MY JUDGMENT FOR NOW, COULD BE GOOD LIVE 7) IDEAL SK-WH SHOW OFF VOCAL-HEAVY TRACK 8) MUCH LIKE 6, WAITING TO SEE HOW IT PANS OUT 9) THIS SOUNDS LIKE A 1990S POWER SOUNDTRACK FOR ANIME AND I AM HARDCORE INTO IT 10) YOU GO MYUNGSOO, ALL MOODY LIKE YOU LIKE IT 11) LEMON CANDY TO THE MAX 12) UNPOPULAR OPINION, I AM NOT INTO BEGIN AGAIN THAT MUCH BUT IT'S OK FEEELS
  12. You can't very well get over a girl who was your destiny, who kept you in a sad paradise. After all, nothing's over and they will always be men in love waiting for her in the eye of the typhoon
  13. Dear girl who left Infinite in 2009, It's been eight years. COME BACK ALREADY. With affection, Inspirits
  14. Tbh, And I know it's an unpopular opinion but I really liked Bad, which was not exactly their usual sound either. And to be entirely frank, as well, people sometimes like to experiment. But it's not run of the mill either. I mean, it's hardly a copycat of what other groups are doing. It's got that Infinite intensity.
  15. That is so sweet of you to compliment my UNSTOPPABLE MUDSLIDE OF FEELINGS ABOUT THIS COMEBACK
  16. Right, so, thoughts: 1) let a girl have a bias and therefore allow me to say DONGWOO IS COMING FOR ALL OF YOUR HEARTS OMG MY BOY SO BEAUTIFUL. 2) styling is working well for me here. 3) I love the sets. So creepy but ethereal if it makes sense. 4) much as I adored The Eye's strange and complex choreography, here they have gone for one of the simpler styles that seem to be really fashionable atm - good to attract possible new Stans who have not seen Infinite before 5) I like a lot how Woohyun is going for an undertone and more subdued style of singing, it really suits me 6) last but BY A VERY LONG SHOT NOT LEAST, my baby Kyu can still slay me by simply leaning back against the wall and looking sad af
  17. OMGGGGGG OMGGGGG OMGGGGGGG OMGGGG (I will have a more articulate reaction in a few minutes, after watching it again 172672446 times)
  18. Apparently this is an unpopular opinion, but I don't think it's wrong at all for Western newspapers to point out the awful lives led by Kpop idols or Korea's extraordinary incidence of suicide in occasion of Jonghyun's death. Sure, some people were disrespectful and racist, but I actually read a lot of thoughtful coverage and some by the longtime Korean correspondents of the newspapers. Like it or not, Korea does have a suicide problem. And like it or not, kpop is an incredibly exploitative industry which puts its performers under unbearable pressure. That doesn't mean the Western music industry is amazing and perfect (it's not, just ask Kesha) but just today I was reading that netizens are AGAIN on TOP's case because he was spotted ... having dinner with his friends instead of 'reflecting'. Lol, sure, he needs more reflecting after he was bullied into attempted suicide this June for VAPING SOME MARIJUANA. TOP is still alive, thank God, but the netizens have learnt nothing. To pretend that Jonghyun's suicide does not sit inside the larger context of how his country and his industry fail to take care of mental health is hypocritical and silly.
  19. OMG princess Kyu in pink! And I love how Dw's black stripes set off his hair
  20. Oh they are releasing the teasers in random order! This style looks good on Sy :D
