i wonder why she doesn't add a lesbian couple
i think even including a gay male couple is a brave step forward, since any relation to the lgbt community will likely be used against her. having a lesbian couple in one of her mvs would probably be seen as her admitting to being a lesbian herself, because of the way she presents. we have to take into consideration that amber can't get away with the same stuff that more feminine artists can. hypervisibility is a bitch.

Yeri setting the record straight

throwback to all the times people clowned me for thinking yeri is a lesbian I BEEN KNEW!!!

i guess part of it's cause i relate to her, since i'm also very outgoing, sociable, feminine and i have lots of male friends. seeing yeri get all this hate for being an "attention whore" or people portraying her as a "fox" who tries to seduce every guy she interacts with, really hurts, cause i act very similarily to her. i mean it's not our fault that our friendliness is constantly mistaken as romantic interest...
also her whole relationship with kim saeron is suspect as hell, but people just dismiss it as gals being pals, because they're "too young" as if there's an age limit for being gay, or the classic "if there really was something between them, they'd be a lot more discreet", as if gay people don't hide in plain sight all the fucking time.

This is a great scene but I wish Mark wasn't smiling.

yeah whoever edited this mv must've been on crack for including that and johnny slipping.... i'm really just trying my hardest to find something positive to say, but it's hard.

at least i have the live stages to look forward to..

visually i think this was the coolest part of the mv (ten also slayed but the camera work could've been better) just cause it looks so powerful and makes great work of silhouettes

I doubt there's another "regular" version of the MV, like noiya said it'll most likely be like Taemin's Thirsty.
I'm hopeful for better camerawork from the music show stages, fan-accounts from today's pre-recording were pretty positive (other than the boys being late almost 2 hours to the recording).
yeah i kinda figured since the mv was said to be released on midnight the 19th, which was two hours ago.... it's just disappointing, especially when they create so much hype around this project and then doesn't deliver

-
not to be a debbie downer but this is what happens sm spends their whole entire budget on side projects and teasers... like i loved the whole nctmentary series, but i wish they incorporated those amazing visual concepts into their mvs instead

the camerawork was honestly a damn mess like why the fuck did they randomly zoom in on taeyong's hip at the end???? i hope we get another ver with more fair screentime distribution and better visuals
my boys deserve better-

but based on that logic they can't win, ever. If they say nothing they're obviously not supportive, if they do say something, it's just for the positive reactions without really trying. I don't accuse Western artists of not truly supporting LGBT rights cause they didn't attend Pride or organised a sit in at a homophobic cake store. Entertainers aren't activists and even in the US singers/musicians/artists getting involved in politics is usually frowned upon, even moreso in South Korea. It's not like they bring it up themselves in interviews to earn brownie points, it's when they're asked they try to be inclusive, I really don't see how that's problematic. Honestly, to me it's a good thing if they're being praised for it cause hopefully that will lead to people being more outspoken about support for LGBT rights. I don't care if it's performative, the more people speak out, the better the chances it actually reaches the general public and saying things like "I don't support homosexuality" (certain music producers, the freaking president of South Korea) might actually be contested instead of just taken as a totally acceptable, normal statement.
i'm not tryna moralize about how idols express their support for us. i agree that all support, regardless of intention, is good for us.
it's just kinda frustrating how the general idea seems to be "we're there for you, but only in secret and only as long as it's profitable to us". nice as it is to hear that, it does NOTHING to change the current circumstances, because the message usually only reaches their own fans.
the only idol i can think of that publicly vocalized his explicit support of the lgbt community, and not only through vague statements, is jonghyun. he got a lot of backlash for that too, but if he didn't speak up about it, i honestly doubt any other public figure would. that's the kind of action that deserves to be praised, because there is actual bravery in defending someone else when you have nothing to gain from it yourself.
it's totally fine if yall wanna praise your faves for doing the absolute bare minimum, but i also hope yall keep sight on reality, cause a lot of the shit yall go up for honestly just reminds me of that whole FCKH8 campaign lmfao

I also just point out that the more idols are praised for showing support for the LGBT community, the more their companies will probably allow them to do it. *shrug*
but at which point does it become performative? i mean, if someone's support for us is solely dependant on the reactions from other people, is it really genuine then?

perform at seul pride? lose some fans?
thats funny. there would be complete chaos if that happens.
that way of thinking is so selfish. bts are doing fine as of now considering the position they are in..
how tf is that selfish of me??? i'm just saying they have the juice to survive unscathed from doing something like that. i don't expect it, but you can't say it's not an option.
No one's saying he's revolutionary for tweeting gay songs/artists, i can't speak for everyone but i'm defending him because people were attacking him at that time and saying he's homophobic just because he refused to elaborate and that's unfair especially to someone who showed and keep showing that he's an ally.
BTS are still from a small company and are still heavily dependant on their korean fanbase despite having a lot of international fans so i'm not sure they're at the point where they could perform at pride and not have their reputation tarnished by conservative Korean Media.
I love them as artists, it makes me happy to know that they're not homophobic but i don't expect them to start a revolution and i doubt they can start a revolution but it's still nice to know that they're trying to show their support even through these little things.
i wasn't targeting anyone specific in this thread, but A LOT of people do actually treat him like he's the gay messiah. i don't think he's homophobic by any means, i just want people to not make the same mistake i've made several times of putting celebrities on a pedestal as "ideologically pure". in fact, i think that's part of the reason why his comment was blown wildly out of proportion - because people had such unrealistic expectations about him always speaking out about lgbt rights, so when he for once didn't live up those expectations, it probably felt like a smack in the face to some fans.
i didn't say their reputation wouldn't take a hit from it, but overall they wouldn't be anywhere near the danger zone. it's not like they would go bankrupt or disband just by expressing their support of lgbt people or performing at pride. like i said, i don't expect it, and that's exactly my point - there is so much they could do, but they wont, because they're entertainers and NOT activists.

I guess the reason why is because i get really sensitive when people are vague over these things. it’s because it puts them in a situation where they can get the praise for being supportive while not actually committing to the statement they get the praise for. it reminds me of jk rowling saying dumbledore is gay in an interview after she wrote all the books with no gay dumbledore. personally as a gay dude i find it difficult, whether i like it or not, to not feel uncomfortable when people are vague.
i don’t really understand why he needed to be cautious or diplomatic in an american interview, as in other american interviews he’s been a lot more straight forward (he said something like “it doesn’t matter whether love between a man or a woman, or genders†in one) and also because if he was being diplomatic, why did yoongi not need to be? that’s something that has confused me about it since it happened.
it's tea time already??? tbh sometimes i just laugh my ass off at people who applaud idols for doing the absolute bare minimum.... sure it's nice if you're a gay fan to have your identity validated by your bias group, but lets not act like making a few offhand tweets or reccomending gay artists is actually that revolutionary, even in kpop.
the thing that annoys me personally about his answer (not him as a person or even his politics, just this specific interview) is that if any group can actually afford to be 100% outspoken about their support of lgbt people, it's bts. their economic, cultural and social power is at a point where they have the opportunity to actually CHANGE things in a substancial way, if they want. they could perform at the seoul pride parade without putting too much at stake. sure they might lose a few fans along the way, but their careers would in no way be jeopardized.
i don't judge him tho, since we're all shills for capitalism anyways, but i'm not gonna applaud him for it either. idols are entertainers, not politicians, so frankly i'm done putting them on a pedestal as these great human rights activists. that's only gonna get you 10x more hurt once they say something truly fucked up.

Which group y'all think has the highest percentage of gay to straight members? My vote is NCT. Many suspicious members lol.
brockhampton
no but if we're talking pure numbers then i agree it has to be nct just cause there's so goddamn many of them, but if we're talking percentage wise then imo it's knk, cause like.. they literally have ONE (1) straight member lmfao

i completely agree in that i hate the q slur and i hate when people describe me with it, especially since they never ask for consent—the only thing is that i was under the impression that hayley was bi? which is why i actually hate when ppl call her "lesbian jesus" since she's not a lesbian lolll but it's totally possible i'm wrong, i can't seem to find her addressing it in the past year or so but iirc when she first broke out she identified as bi. like just call her "bisexual jesus" imho, there's no reason to conflate lesbians and bi women when our experiences are so different? which is also why i'm apprehensive about the term wlw—which does have its uses & importance in creating solidarity of course! but i feel like a lot of the time it's used, people act like there's a Singular Women Loving Women Experience when lesbians & bi/pan women face completely different prejudices—lesbians get shit because we're not attracted to men, bi/pan women get shit because they're attracted to multiple genders. a lesbian who's in a relationship with another woman is not having the same experience as a bi/pan woman who's in a relationship with another woman
anyway all this to say that people need to stop treating lesbian and bisexual like they're dirty words when qu*er is the one that's a literal slur LOL. i'm totally open to people identifying with the term—i call myself a dyke all the time, i love the term even though it also originated as a slur—but it's one thing to reclaim it yourself and another to impose it on other people, many of whom probably have had it directly used against them in the past & have negative associations with it because of that (myself included)
i agree with everything you said, but i don't think she's bisexual, since i can't find anything at all when googling that. she's used the word gay a lot, and has to my knowledge only ever talked about her attraction to women. early in her career she did use gender neutral pronouns and even kissed boys in her videos, but in her own words that was only because she was still in the closet.
but yeah, i've always thought the term wlw was kinda redundant (though still preferable to "queer women") since there is no singular uniform experience that connects lesbians and bi girls. sure, we all face homophobia for liking girls, but our relationship with heteropatriarrchy is so different that there are lots of things we simply can't relate to each other about. i think it's important to have a nuanced view on these things.
