Who do you think is a lesbian in kpop?
where my hood unnies at replied to Pyo Hyemi's topic in Celebrity News & Gossip
i think even including a gay male couple is a brave step forward, since any relation to the lgbt community will likely be used against her. having a lesbian couple in one of her mvs would probably be seen as her admitting to being a lesbian herself, because of the way she presents. we have to take into consideration that amber can't get away with the same stuff that more feminine artists can. hypervisibility is a bitch. -

throwback to all the times people clowned me for thinking yeri is a lesbian I BEEN KNEW!!! i guess part of it's cause i relate to her, since i'm also very outgoing, sociable, feminine and i have lots of male friends. seeing yeri get all this hate for being an "attention whore" or people portraying her as a "fox" who tries to seduce every guy she interacts with, really hurts, cause i act very similarily to her. i mean it's not our fault that our friendliness is constantly mistaken as romantic interest... also her whole relationship with kim saeron is suspect as hell, but people just dismiss it as gals being pals, because they're "too young" as if there's an age limit for being gay, or the classic "if there really was something between them, they'd be a lot more discreet", as if gay people don't hide in plain sight all the fucking time. -

i love how unapologetically glam and androgynous tao is src -
yeah whoever edited this mv must've been on crack for including that and johnny slipping.... i'm really just trying my hardest to find something positive to say, but it's hard. at least i have the live stages to look forward to..
-
visually i think this was the coolest part of the mv (ten also slayed but the camera work could've been better) just cause it looks so powerful and makes great work of silhouettes
-
yeah i kinda figured since the mv was said to be released on midnight the 19th, which was two hours ago.... it's just disappointing, especially when they create so much hype around this project and then doesn't deliver
-
not to be a debbie downer but this is what happens sm spends their whole entire budget on side projects and teasers... like i loved the whole nctmentary series, but i wish they incorporated those amazing visual concepts into their mvs instead
-
the camerawork was honestly a damn mess like why the fuck did they randomly zoom in on taeyong's hip at the end???? i hope we get another ver with more fair screentime distribution and better visuals my boys deserve better

i'm not tryna moralize about how idols express their support for us. i agree that all support, regardless of intention, is good for us. it's just kinda frustrating how the general idea seems to be "we're there for you, but only in secret and only as long as it's profitable to us". nice as it is to hear that, it does NOTHING to change the current circumstances, because the message usually only reaches their own fans. the only idol i can think of that publicly vocalized his explicit support of the lgbt community, and not only through vague statements, is jonghyun. he got a lot of backlash for that too, but if he didn't speak up about it, i honestly doubt any other public figure would. that's the kind of action that deserves to be praised, because there is actual bravery in defending someone else when you have nothing to gain from it yourself. it's totally fine if yall wanna praise your faves for doing the absolute bare minimum, but i also hope yall keep sight on reality, cause a lot of the shit yall go up for honestly just reminds me of that whole FCKH8 campaign lmfao -

but at which point does it become performative? i mean, if someone's support for us is solely dependant on the reactions from other people, is it really genuine then? -

how tf is that selfish of me??? i'm just saying they have the juice to survive unscathed from doing something like that. i don't expect it, but you can't say it's not an option. i wasn't targeting anyone specific in this thread, but A LOT of people do actually treat him like he's the gay messiah. i don't think he's homophobic by any means, i just want people to not make the same mistake i've made several times of putting celebrities on a pedestal as "ideologically pure". in fact, i think that's part of the reason why his comment was blown wildly out of proportion - because people had such unrealistic expectations about him always speaking out about lgbt rights, so when he for once didn't live up those expectations, it probably felt like a smack in the face to some fans. i didn't say their reputation wouldn't take a hit from it, but overall they wouldn't be anywhere near the danger zone. it's not like they would go bankrupt or disband just by expressing their support of lgbt people or performing at pride. like i said, i don't expect it, and that's exactly my point - there is so much they could do, but they wont, because they're entertainers and NOT activists. -

it's tea time already??? tbh sometimes i just laugh my ass off at people who applaud idols for doing the absolute bare minimum.... sure it's nice if you're a gay fan to have your identity validated by your bias group, but lets not act like making a few offhand tweets or reccomending gay artists is actually that revolutionary, even in kpop. the thing that annoys me personally about his answer (not him as a person or even his politics, just this specific interview) is that if any group can actually afford to be 100% outspoken about their support of lgbt people, it's bts. their economic, cultural and social power is at a point where they have the opportunity to actually CHANGE things in a substancial way, if they want. they could perform at the seoul pride parade without putting too much at stake. sure they might lose a few fans along the way, but their careers would in no way be jeopardized. i don't judge him tho, since we're all shills for capitalism anyways, but i'm not gonna applaud him for it either. idols are entertainers, not politicians, so frankly i'm done putting them on a pedestal as these great human rights activists. that's only gonna get you 10x more hurt once they say something truly fucked up. -

no but if we're talking pure numbers then i agree it has to be nct just cause there's so goddamn many of them, but if we're talking percentage wise then imo it's knk, cause like.. they literally have ONE (1) straight member lmfao -

i agree with everything you said, but i don't think she's bisexual, since i can't find anything at all when googling that. she's used the word gay a lot, and has to my knowledge only ever talked about her attraction to women. early in her career she did use gender neutral pronouns and even kissed boys in her videos, but in her own words that was only because she was still in the closet. but yeah, i've always thought the term wlw was kinda redundant (though still preferable to "queer women") since there is no singular uniform experience that connects lesbians and bi girls. sure, we all face homophobia for liking girls, but our relationship with heteropatriarrchy is so different that there are lots of things we simply can't relate to each other about. i think it's important to have a nuanced view on these things.
