I've ended up liking the songs the way they modify it way more than I thought I would, but they still need help selecting songs. The only one I thought "Oh, that's going to be so good" when I first saw it is Retreat by Gen Neo. I hate A Mei's Fire, but I actually enjoyed the way the song sounded in ep 4. Was also quite impressed with the results of the season 1 songs. I mean this time around, why so many old ballads that are pretty much the same style? Why can't they choose something from Khalil Fong or Tia Ray? Just something a little different.

Ep 5 just showed one of my favorite things about this show, the boys with the staff...I'm so happy I also need jpgs of all the ugly Jia Yi faces they featured, I love these crazy editors OMG, they just turned Hu Chunyang into this season's Ronald McDonald...the fire engine red hair makes a comeback Click here to view the Tweet

I heard that All For One and IP2 were duking it out for certain trainees, there were some who interviewed or auditioned for both and had to choose between which one to join. Makes me wonder if extra screen time is something that is promised to a trainee that they know are popular just so the other show doesn't nab him. Produce Camp (PD101 China 2) will definitely try to outdo these two shows so the more popular trainees the better. Besides X-Nine and Swin, I heard even Top Combine members are going. Now there's a rumor that Casper ditched IP2 for Produce Camp, but it's still a rumor. Even if he didn't, knowing that he is no longer in IP2, it's in Produce Camp's interest to nab Casper to be on their show, because it'll get people talking. I feel like the end goal for these Chinese shows is very different than that of their Korean counterparts and people should realize this. The Korean counterpart is looking to create a temp group that can dominate the music scene and generate a lot of income through that. The Chinese shows want to generate buzz to prop up their own platform. They give these trainees the exposure and popularity that comes with being on the show and in turn what they want is just another win for their platform.

In episode 4, I felt like having one team perform wasn't as bad as I imagined it to be, however having the judges judge them and then seeing both teams perform again was a bit repetitive. They showed enough preparation for both teams, although toward the last few performances the bts shots for were significantly reduced. Not sure if that's because there just weren't enough interesting people to make those clips entertaining or they looked at the run time and thought hmm, we better cut more scenes so it doesn't have a 5 hour run time. Even with each team's bts scenes, it felt like they focused on one person in the group as to give him a storyline. The groups with more than one popular member obviously received the bulk of the screen time and the focus was divided a little more evenly. Sadly for some, their whole stint on the show is just a few shots of them practicing in the background. There's this pair of Chinese reactioners that I watch. They do recaps of each episode and I just love their snarky comments. With Yao Mingming, they said he definitely got the sad/feel sorry for him script. Not that the show is scripted, but the producers can totally place them in situations to evoke that role that is assigned to them. Upon seeing Wenhan's team bts, their reaction is "Oh they're pros," and not that they don't naturally have that personality, but they know exactly what they need to do to stand out. The girl used an example of if she get pushed by someone ever so slightly, but instead of not flinching, she does a dramatic fall as a funny reaction, she's definitely getting that screen time over someone else. I feel Lian Huaiwei and Feng Junjie fits the bill too. Fung Junjie was really working it in ep4 for that screen time.

Didn't Wenhan have a lot more followers than Cai Xukun before joining the show? But I also agree that I don't think his #1 spot is secure, there are at least 3 or 4 that have a possibility of overtaking him, but we got to see the number of votes first. I feel like most of his fans are more casual unlike iKuns. Cai Xukun fans are those ride or die type, because of what he's been through over the period of time before he joined Idol Producer, they feel the need to protect him at all costs, make sure he not only makes the group but wins it all, and go to the ends of the earth for him.
