I reached my reading peak when I was 12yo while I devoured harry potter. Nowadays I don't read that much, mostly because I take 3 years to finish a novel (moby dick), or the books get lost during the process (moby dick again…), or someone lends the book I was reading and no the person never brings it back (blindness). Well, surprise surprise, we're trying to read more! So here are some reviews of the books I finished recently (this year, started reading in summer). Hopefully this isn't my last post about book reviews pfft Northanger Abbey (Jane Austen) My first Jane Austen romance. I knew more or less what to expect but ended up liking it more than I thought I would. An easy and short read, rather amusing, actually. Even though it's quite an old novel, it's written in a way that modern readers can enjoy, even though everybody knows that no one is eloquent enough to speak like the characters in romance novels. I liked how the characters were written and Austen's witty humor. Although I'm not familiar with gothic novels, the satire was felt and very much appreciated. The love interest/ hero is charming as hell, ehixh I found a bit unrealistic, there's no man like that irl. As a notoriously slow reader, I finished this in 3 days. Persuation (Jane Austen) From what I read, Northanger Abbey was Austen's first novel, and Persuation her last. I started this book right after I finished Northanger Abbey. This one felt more mature, while the first was more playful. Style wise, it's exactly what I expected from Jane Austen - a heroin, her crush, and how they end up together. On another note, please don't watch the netflix adaption, if we can call that an adaption, because just from the trailer it's clear that it absolutely sucks. The book took me about 5 days to read. The delicate and romantic vibes aren't exactly my thing, you see. Funny thing is, I really liked the ending because it just felt so romantic to me ajshsh. It's a gentle book with a gentle MC. Despite this one being more famous, I might prefer Northanger Abbey. I wiill read more Jane Austen romances in the future as I have them here in my house and I appreciate her writing in general. It's clean~ The Scarlet Letter (Nathaniel Hawthorne) I was curious because I heard this book is taught to american students. I was expecting a nicely written classic but I found it very... dull, boring. Indeed, if it wasn't dull, why would they teach it in school? I should have expected that rsrsrs. The first chapter was too long and borderline irrelevant to the plot and the prose itself felt excruciating to go through. Not that it was hard to understand - the message is pretty clear, but the theme itself just didn't quite peak my interest. I digged the melodramatic ending though lmao. My main feeling after finishing it was a "uhh... Ok?". The book took me longer to read, about 3 weeks maybe? Or more. Getting past the 1st chapter and some other sections was a task ngl. You can tell it was written in another era (feels dated at certain points). Ehhh, not a fan The Professor (Charlotte Brönte) First novel I read from a Brönte sister. I can't help but campare it to Agnes Grey, written by Anne, since they share some similarities (I'll discuss it later). While I liked The Professor overall, I thought the ending was a bit anticlimatic and the main character a bit hmm uninteresting. I prefer the side characters, especially the female ones. The book is alright, a bit of a Sunday afternoon movie feel, if you get what I mean. It's alright, not amazing. Took me about a week to finish. Also, this book made me realise that I truly suck at french rsrsrs - there were some french sentences that weren't translated, but it might depend on the edition. The Picture of Dorian Gray (Oscar Wilde) I recently came across this book on one of the shelves in my house. Had no idea it was there, so I read it because it's always been on my to read list. Now for a book filled with hedonism, vanity and all sorts of questionable morality, it's written in a truly beautiful way wew. It feels opulent and accessible at the same time. I could clearly picture in my head what was being described in the pages. I'll call it aesthetic prose, I think it's an accurate description. It's short, witty (one liners everywhere), kinda gay and very engaging, even with long dialogues. I read the censored version with 20 chapters by the way, maybe one day I read the original uncensored version in english, with 15 chapters. Really enjoyed how Wilde (and the translator i guess) wrote it. The ending isn't particularly surprising, so it's more about the journey rather than the destination. Took me 3 days to finish. Agnes Grey (Anne Brönte) Fifty shades of græy... Second Brönte sister here we go. The vibes are similar to The Professor, for example: 1st person narrator, main characters have jobs related to teaching, they move out of their hometowns, struggle with money, MCs aren't very attractive, city names are censored, etc. Style and substance are similar. I prefer Agnes Grey, however. Entertainment wise, it was about the same, but as a story I thought Agnes Grey had more "heart", passion, whatever you call it - it made me root and feel bad for the MC and dislike some characters. It's the shortest book of the 6 I'm reviewing and I read it in 4 days, just finished it some minutes ago ah. Emily girl I will read you too, just wait a bit... I chose the shortest books that were on the shelf. I'll choose longer books next so don't expect more book reviews anytime soon rsrsrs

Ya know when it's christmas time and you're looking at toys to give your little cousins And there are so many toys You become lowkey jealous because those toys look cool af and back then the barbies didn't look as pretty as the newer models that come out nowadays And then you get annoyed because the kids would rather spend the entire day looking at a tablet, listening to a malaysian mukbang while umconsciously learning vocabulary from random languages, even if they can't count to 5 in their native one You know they will play with that barbie once, cut its whole hair, paint its face, throw it somehere and never touch it again After a day or 2 they're back listening to annoying kids songs, in an unfamiliar language of course After considering everything, you still buy the damn barbie because you hope that they play with something that doesn't have pixels, and because you hope the kid appreciates something that was, in other times, quite precious to you All this with the lingering feeling that the barbie would look good on your bedroom shelf rsrsrsrs

If you had a memorable teacher, what subject was he/she teaching?
angy replied to Seunghee's eyebrows's topic in Random
This one college professor that was great at teaching, charismatic, rigorous, had good sense of humor and seemed to actually enjoy his career. He was also the only college teacher I had that that bothered learning every student's name -

Kara Move again review Happy hour - the hags are back welcome welcome. Why do they sound so good? Are my ears polluted from listening to 4th gen? Cute song, it's like a teen drama ost, very shoujo energy. I'm in the mood for this rn. Basic but nice on the ears. It's our dreams sweet melody something something BASIC BUT WE VIBE When I move - I can imagine this being a Twice bside rsrsrs. Anyway, it's a nice song. Not particularly interesting or anything, borderline boring actually, but they make it work. OKAYY Shoit it out - not my style. It's like when you see someone on tinder that looks good but when you think about all the life choices you made up until that point, you decide that it's safer to swipe left. Not bad, kinda good, but is it something i'd play again? The instrumental is a bit annoying. NOT MY TYPE Oxygen - i knew this was gonna be a ballad...! I know thay it's late but i'm almost falling asleep here. And I've heard better lullabies. Oh it's picking up a bit? It's not bad. NOT GREAT, NOT BAD 58/100 expected better

P1harmony harmony: set in review Back Down - this is such a nugu boy group sounding song... their titles are usually good, what happened here? It sounds annoying. Forcing myself to not skip it. You don't need second chances? I won't give this song another chance then rsrsrs. Bridge is the best part but that's not saying much HARD SKIP BFF (Best Friends Forever) - This is hmm interesting. It's okay... it's that type of song that sounds better when you raise the volume. The last chorus is the best part. IT'S OKAY? Secret Sauce - they have a lot of this boung boung boung sound, as well as these oooooooohhhhhs. Sounds like a NCT drram song. Not a complimemt. Not my style. The rap verses aren't bad but i don't like the transition between the verses and pre-chorus, it's too harsh. SoNg starts to sound better after the 2nd chorus. The ting tings are cool. IT KINDA BOPS??? One and Only - is it because i only know keeho's voice or does he sing like half of these songs rsrsrs. I'm kinda vibing although i'm not in the right mood rn. In the right mood this slays i think. I like how they chant together a lot ah IT'S GOOD? Look at me now - this album is going hard i hope the next song isn't a ballad. This is for sure the easiest song on the ears lmao i like it on first listen. Sounds like something you'd use for a AMV or video game ad. EASY LISTEN FINALLY THANKS Better together - please not a ballad please not a ballad. Oh no... gwenchana it's ok. Very generic boy group ballad. The aaaahs near the end aren't doing it for me. Not bad but too BORING A 63/100
