  1. The things on DC usually get spread elsewhere. I saw translated inetz comments there before I saw them appear in pann comments/news. (Idk if that's their origin, but it's a sign that IU fans can spread the info around.) Oh yeah and antis do too, because I saw them capture DC comments in a scathing pann post on how IU fans were trying to change public opinion by spreading clarifications (as if there isn't an obvious organized smear campaign against her right now too).

    Oh.  Interesting.

It looks like they're really determined to go through with this smear campaign and they don't give a damn about anyone who doesn't support their side.

  2. Fans and non-fan observers are doing a better job at cleaning up this mess than LOEN. :derp:

Yes, I agree with this 100%. Loen sucks at PR.

They need to hire better PR folks and have a good law firm on retainer.

All those papers who deliberately left out parts of what IU said and stringing non-related things as though it was related  ...

    edit:

and stating opinions like it's a fact in the header. this is esp problematic since there are a lot of folks who don't read the full article.

  3. I think that neither Loen nor Sony know what they were talking about when saying they will show to Britney and wait for what she has to say. Is like they come with the first thing that comes to mind. :wut:

I like the mexicana chicken photo. =)

For the interview she will have, I hope that she doesn't mess up again. Be really careful IU.

i agree. i'm a little confused by this too. it should be sony or whoever owns the rights that should be answering this.

unless they're not the ones who owns the rights to it?

  4. ^ even if Britney cared... She can't do much about it since she didn't write the music...

Maybe they were just waiting for her word?

As in if they should decide to sue or let go? Then yah... We might be waiting for a loooooooong time lol cuz I don't think she'd care kk

    H/w I really don't understand this decision T T

Like, if Sony said they'd contact the song writers, then I'd totally understand...

I don't think there's anything to be worried about. I mean even Britney had something like this happened to her (she sampled someone else):

    http://www.tmz.com/2015/05/05/britney-spears-piece-of-me-lawsuit-copyright-sony/

    http://www.whosampled.com/sample/16717/Britney-Spears-Toxic-Lata-Mangeshkar-S.-P.-Balasubramaniam-Tere-Mere-Beech-Mein/

By the way folks, check out wiki for Britney samples listed there:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Britney_Spears_audio_samples

    And here:

    http://sounds.beatport.com/publisher/twenty-six/25869/packs

BeatPort is a legally operated company and, if I recall correctly, they sell precleared samples too.

  5. is this dispelling the controversy? Google Translate tells me that the title is "IU 'you and me' Lolita controversy, misunderstanding and that the truth .jpg", and at the end there's a note that says (again Google Translate): "You want to present a different opinion about "you and me" Lolita concept of the recently spreading indiscriminately IU. Interpretation is not free, but can only be one sided reporting and evaluating the overall judgment. Whilst details are known about the wrong fixing, the hope being transformed into a witch hunt no more."

(ps I hate how Korean portal sites like Daum don't allow copy pasting)

This one is clarifying how those U&I videos/screen caps are manipulated to prove Lolita. It's in support of IU.

  6. There are a number of possibilities here:

Taking these three possibilities into account, I'm inclined to think of the third one. When I read the news about their apology, I immediately thought that they were backpedalling, but for different reasons: Besides the possibility of defamation, there's also the fact that this gained international publicity (via The Guardian) and they probably thought of the different entities that might join in (the possibility of other publishing companies giving out statements), along with the multitude of people + Seoul Uni defending. They didn't see any of this defense coming when they made that statement, so they know that it'll come to bite them back in the future.

I'm of the opinion that it is the third and possibly the other ones you mentioned after that.   :)

I think they were enjoying all the free publicity that they were getting until they noticed that the outside world may weigh in.

I mean outside world who has the original book and can read for themselves without any kind of influence from them.

In any case, I  hope Uaenas keep up their effort to bring light on this subject because I think that it's actually working.

Good job to everyone and keep up the good work  :rlytearpls:

  7. I think a lot of people are missing the main point here. They almost straight out accused IU of pedophilia and sexualizing a child.

They are backpedaling like crazy after they really dug into the matter and found out what this is really about.

The publisher and their lawyers know that they are liable for DEFAMATION and that Loen has every right to sue the hell out of them.

They know that they were wrong on several accounts yet they chose to "apologize" in this fashion?!?

Did they finally realize that the some of the reference like dirty came directly out the book when last they stated in their tweeted that ignornant statement that Zeze was not like that?

Or did they finally find the parts from the book that IU referenced?

I think they need to come out and make an honest apology to IU, not this half assed one.

  8. Just saw some comment that basically confirmed for me few things:

. First: there are quite few Kr commenters who up voted that they found the lyric "climb up me" most perverted.

As many have pointed out, there literally is a something the tree says to zeze. This 1/2 confirms for me that either the Kr translation is half assed and is not well translated OR these people have not read MSOT the book. I tend to go with the these people did not read the book and just picking out things that they can throw at these sheets so they naturally follow this conclusion.

. Two: a lot of the comments are just rehash of vitriol. The same old that you saw before. They keep using the same copy and paste comments.

. Three: Sheeps will be Sheeps. People are lacking critical thinking skills. I mean IU straight out told you about metaphor and what she accociat s with flower. The director told you what the milk is supposed to represent.

The pann posts about what the judge wrote , even pann users are very careful for that one. It's a little telling that they attack everyone but the judge, no?

please keep up the good job of spreading that one interpretation by the Brazilian student as well as the one by @kinsasha

( the one about the tree is the end world/general public And how it all connects with a theme of the album and the consistent message associated with it.) From what I can tell, it seems Like it is starting to work.

I really recommend getting spread to some of the bigger IU sites even the squishyblob and others. Gosh I need to go to sleep soon and prepare for tomorrow's meeting. Typing via mobile device stinks. I make so many mistakes when I type things out this way. So forgive me for the errors. 'Night.

  9. There are a couple tweets going around with a screencap from Return of Superman, a k-fan rt it a while ago too. Chin Jung Kwon also retweeted it. The one he retweeted said something like "where's the KBS closure campaign?" So I think it's a pic of one of the kids with an inappropriate caption? The original person that I saw point this out got 600+ retweets.

On twitter there seems to be some support for her. I don't know how popular the tweets against her are, but there are definitely people on her side in various aspects - pointing out the hypocrisy concerning lolita imagery/sexualization of kids/responses to similar controversies, comparing it to the textbook controversy, and talking about interpretations. Sure it's not pann or news sites, but it shows that she has support, and people questioning the witch hunting.

and all those netz who insist that korea uses the appropriated word sexy for sexual sexy.

it is used for both sex sexy, and non-sexy. there was minority in those comments who kept on insisting that was not the case in the kr article but that never got a lot of +.

Edit: clarification. Those who insisted on different use of sexy did not get a lot of up votes.

Need to concentrate on something else now.

  10.

Even with the clarification that she was talking about his personality traits, there are people who still think she's being "gross" because they can't seem to separate the kid's personality trait from himself, that his personality is inseparable from him.

well, life is hectic for us all.  i can't keep up with everything and i'm sure that's the case with iu and company.

do children not display traits that are just so adult like sometimes? we say cute to the child but we can admire that trait and even apply words like courageous, and wise beyond their years? i understand the knee jerk reaction of having that word associated with a child but how about if i said this instead? xyz is like bbb so much in that specific character trait. i find that trait sexy.

in any case, as iu has said zeze is iu. it is a metaphor. if they can't understand that they need to go back to school because they wasted their teacher's time.

    Oh him. Personally, I disagree.

I really like to know if anyone is just going by the movie or they are actually going by the book?

The book Zeze, as described by some people who wrote a summary for it, really fits in perfectly with IU's interpretation. It really makes me wonder how white washed the actual work that is published in Korea is. Movies take the liberty of deleting scenes and other things out of their adaption of the story to empahsize certain things that they want but it really makes me curious as to how much this was done to My Sweet Orange Tree.

Gosh, I need to go but I do not see the need to pull it.

  12. Life has its purposes and I believe that, in the long run, this will all work out.

So far as I can see this is good this, this pann post:

    http://pann.nate.com/talk/328864180

This is the one where someone posted about the judges interpretation and one of the comments really caught my eyes.

This person is saying that he or she generally has no interest in IU but had no choice but to pay attention. And while he understands both the sides that condemn and support her, beyond condemning/defending, this felt like a witch hunt to him/her.

skips some texts here since I am getting some emails piled up that I need to answer

He or she goes onto say who is actually writing the comments to condemn IU? Most things that gets blown up is from/starts from pann and says that it's either the 10s or 20s. Goes onto say that most of people in the 30/40s don't use SNS a lot. Except for people with careers like writers, news reporters (both the legit and gossip rags), producers, etc

He or she basicially says that to think that this is the general sentiment of the 10/20s seems beyond appropriate for this age group.

  13. I'm kinda confused, what do you guys think Loen should do that they aren't? IU has explained herself, the MV director has explained himself, and the illustrator has explained himself. All of those explanations have been clear and as thorough they can be. Imo, they should just continue publicly supporting IU and her album, and carrying out IU's schedule like they have been. And wherever they find grounds to prosecute, they should.

There is no way to stop a witch hunt that's gained this much steam, you just have to wait for them to tire themselves out like small children throwing a sustained temper tantrum. What does it teach the child when you give it whatever it wants just to make it stop crying and screaming? It teaches them absolutely nothing good.

If Loen came out and apologized and pulled the song, would that really make anyone but the deranged haters happy? I know that would genuinely infuriate me. Do you think they would stop there? No, they've now been appeased and would then demand the album be pulled and then IU be banished entirely. This is IU's hard work and art and I expect them and her to stand by her work. Her interpretation is hers and theirs is theirs. Nothing is stopping those people from tuning out. When I go to the art museum, if I come across work I find personally repulsive, I just walk away. I don't launch a campaign to get it removed from the museum because I am not so arrogant and small-minded as to assume that my interpretation and feelings on the subject are the only ones that matter. If they really want to pretend freedom of expression is determined by the public, they should simply stop listening and let the song fall out of the top 10 on its own. There is simply no reason to cave to their juvenile demands.

    I'll be frank.

Pulling the music will not help at all. If they do, the antis and haters will point to it and say, look we were right!

So, my vote is to not pull it. As a matter of fact, if they had a good spin doctor that they can hire, IU and Loen can still come out the winner. That is why I am side eyeing the hell out of Loen.

What exactly is their plan? I don't want to get may hopes up but I can't believe that Loen could be this helpless at PR.

  14.

at least the comments on the article (not including the one just copy-pasting links to IU's controversy articles) are neutral so far. This one was made just recently (that I agree so much with):

Hi there. Finally, someone said it.

As many have said, the lyrics may be open for interpretation but how you interpret it has a lot to do with the person's life experience and their own character trait.

By the way, I would like to correct a few translations going around and point out that IU said character/personality TRAIT.

Gosh, I really hate language sometimes.

In anycase, it really does boil down to the person and their imagination, doesn't it? In that case, what does that say about the people who chose to interpret it as such?

Also, saw this over at AJ,

"I honestly don't see anything wrong with the lyrics, the tree describes zeze in both ways as the good smart and kind kid he is and as the little devil with a filthy mouth (he swears and insults his parents without understanding what it means bc he's repeating what he hears around him) who's always causing trouble (zeze sees himself like this like a bad kid), his brother even tells him he's evil like a snake but zeze has a really good heart, he just also enjoys playing pranks. IU paraphrases the tree with her climb me line, when they met the tree tells him to ride him like a horse and other lines like take the flower come from the story of zeze stealing flowers from the neighbor to give them to his teacher every day and getting caught so his teacher makes him promise he won't bring her more flowers unless he earns them, but one day zeze was telling Portuga that no one loved him and Portuga tells him that his tree loves him so zeze says that no one can love a tree that can't even give flowers. The tree is jealous bc all zeze talks about in Portuga and after Portuga dies zeze and the tree can't communicate anymore, that why IU took the tree's pov, describing zeze' personality and saying how much he (or she since IU sees it as a female) misses him, the lyrics simply express longing and talk about situations that zeze told the tree. Also the abuse people refer to, was being spanked and beaten when he played pranks or said vulgarities, pretty common for South American parents in that era. Ps. Excuse the text block, I'm on Mobil "

I wanted to kiss this user because now I finally have some understanding of the story.

  15. ^^ Thank goodness. I just saw so much negativity that I just jumped the gun there.

In between getting emails out and preparing for presentation, I still stop by here.

On the plus aspect, I would be in awe if Loen does something right for ONCE. I mean they goofed on the PR back on 2012. They did not do a good job with the MT comeback and the controversy then.

It made me wonder if they really are just a music house who has no idea about PR and how to handle it.

On the other hand, I will call them a genius if they can pull this off and shame the shamers. I mean they really have the perfect opportunity to do so.

They can literally say, while a lot depends on how you view it, interpretation has a lot to do with one's own experience and through what "glasses" one views it. Although I doubt they would go that far.  :._.:

To me this just exposes something about the people who would choose to interpret it as such.

  16. ^ the song really means anything depends on the readers mind...

    Loen..............

Man, I decided to take a 15 minute break and this is what I see.

I'm really appalled at the Guardian article. Someone needs to point out that that there are those exact lyrics in the book.

Man what a bunch of b.s.

This whole thing is really messy because Loen is doing a piss poor job of PR.

They are literally letting things fall through the crack. I mean like what?!?

I am starting to lose respect for Loen as well as their PR team. I mean really?!? They need to get their act together.

IU can come of this even better than she was before if her team handles it correctly because this will elevate her to another level of intellilectual level that no amount of PR could have ever done.

  17. However, there is a nasty pann post gaining momentum which reveals more lolita elements during IU career. Looks pretty ugly. Its a war between which post will reach the media and which one koreans will choose to believe. Loen should intervene and k-fans definitely need to spread clarifications posts on Pann. Here it is. 702 upvotes so far:

    http://news.nate.com/view/20151109n24005

sigh ... i really hate the sheep mentality that they have going on right now.

they really want to witch hunt a celebrity to death.

by the way, i took a quick look at the post. unfortunately, i am really crunched for time right now and can't work on the translation but it basically lays down the interpretation using the director's own words along with iu's lyrics.

    there is a part about iu's lyric where she wants to stay a child forever and then there is a part about how she want to fall in love;

    this expression in the video shows iu knocking her mike over and that is reflected in the flower and the spilled milk in the bottle;

since i am in a hurry i'll write it as i recall and do a really, really rough summary of this portion

milk represents iu's desire to remain a child and the flower represents the lovely, young womanhood. her frustration and indecision is reflected here with the two.  iu has mentioned before previously (?) about flower and it relates well to it.

as for the picture of iu in blanket, that is the picture for glasses song which is all about perspective.

the picture for 23, that is for the producer and the first picture in it looks like kissing more than anything. let's be honest, smeared lipstick is generally equated with kiss. the first picture that they talk about does have IU making a kissing lips.

    247D6242563DB2FE25094A

i wish i can do an adequate explanation as this does a pretty detailed job of refuting the claims.

    edit:

    it includes even more example.

argh ... i am at work and i have a big meeting that i have to prepare for tomorrow. so unfortunately, i can't do this but i hope someone else will.

  18. Yeah it would be exhausting. I find it ironic that an Exo MV director of all people is speaking about this. I mean pretty much everyone in kpop industry has used these Lolita concepts including acts from SM. I wish that someone would post what @kinshasa has posted. It made sense to me as the message behind this whole thing.

Also, Loen really needs to hire an outside PR team, an expert one asap. I mean perhaps they are too close to the issue and cannot see the real issues here.

  19. Can we talk about how suddenly LOEN considered as a very big company whenever IU tops Melon?

    omg yes. it's annoying.

you have people who claim iu is melon's top star and bread earner in one thread. then in another they discount iu's affect saying iu is a big company. people can't seem to make up their mind.

it's pretty basic really. loen and melon distribution are separate, independently operated business. kind of like how holding and venture capitalists buy companies under one name but that does not mean that one operation affects the other.

    oh well, whatever.

edit: signing off for the dayy since i have to review things for work tomorrow and get ready for bed. i'm going to be good for once and get my 8 hours of beauty sleep.  :hehe:

  20.

Can we discuss how people literally confuse Leon/Loen ALL THE TIME?

hahah that is a funny thing.

on the topic of the company loen, i think they need to take the antis seriously and start doing some root termination.

they're laissez-faire seem to have allowed the anti to fester to this point and gain true momentum.

also, they really suck at pr and iu may be a fluke. i mean none of their other acts, even though they're good, seemed to gain any traction or interest. i mean fiestar had a great start with iu and their debut song. yet look at where they're at.

history, their boy group, despite a promising start is also buried. let's not forget the other one what was co-ed, i can't recall the name of the group right now but they did ok and even gained some momentum with iu promoting the hell out of them at one point before her scandal.

on the topic of leon, that is a good song to exercise too.  :hurr:

  21. You know I was thinking about ZeZe a lot and I came to the following conclusion.

I believe that duality of the song for me is that there is the straight interpretation of ZeZe and the mango tree and the more abstract one where IU is ZeZe but she is writing from the stand point of the tree. Once I thought of it this way, it was much easier in making some sense to start thinking of another way to interpret the song. But what does the tree represent? Is it the entertainment world or something bigger?

Gosh, I can't think of a song that was this thought provoking in a long while. Perhaps if IU had not become an entertainer, she might have gone onto become a literary giant. Who knows but I am sure that this lady would have done well whatever her chosen field may have been. It is odd how circumstances shape our life. Would IU have been allowed to chase after being a singer if her family was not separated and going through difficult times?

Just some thoughts that I had after a brief talk about how small things can have a ripple effect on life.

  22. Hi folks.

I just came back from Sunday service. The pastor made an interesting comment that had me thinking of IU's situation.

    I will paraphrase here:

Society does not shape the people; people shape the society.

I had a moment of ah hah after hearing that. He was talking about us doing our best and how our attitude should be sincere and earnest. This will affect not just us but those around us and help shape their view (of us) and perhaps eventually to a change in those around us.

His message fit so well with IU's situation that I thought I'd share. It is a little abstract but I think you can probably see where I am going with this.

In any case, I need to go eat now. I saw the idea of translation and I think it sounds like a good idea. Unfortunately, I have some important meetings and deadlines that I have to get ready for. After that I am going to be on travel for a week for work. :( I will try to help when I can though.

  23. by the way folks, i have taken to reading asianjunkie as a refugee from nb and kpopfansblog.

it really is refreshing but with a lot of satire.   :)

anyways, i ran across some more good news. this is about IU's concert tickets supposedly being returned.

"Nope. Nothing so far but a suspect pann post. I even checked myself and was only able to find less than 30 tickets across 4 stops, the rest sold out."

I edited and put it behind spoilers since I am quoting the person without their permission.
