You believe what you choose to believe. But I would like to ask that people understand what she is saying when she mentions the word sexy. Please realize that this interview is in Korean and not in English therefore any usage of popular words that have been appropriated will have the Korean meaning for it. Sexy does not equal to sexy in this instance. Believe me when I say this, IU would have been dragged if the sexy that she was talkinig was the sexual type of sexy that some i'netz are assuming. All you have to do is watch k-dramas and see how they refer to inanimate objects as sexy when it has nothing to do with the sexual sexy.
-
Yes, it's sad. My view is one view of things and someone else can have their view of it. I liked asianjunkies explanation too. What I don't like about some of the things that i-netz are doing is that they are taking things out of context and are not taking the time to find out anything else about a culture and how they may use the word.
-
Sigh ... I wish for a quieter times and I regret not joining in on the lighter conversation when it was. @soojsooj I don't have a problem with you having your own opinion on the matter. Just remember that what is usually interpreted as one thing in one culture does not hold in another. Some of the things that you think is not a big deal is a big deal in another cutlure and vice versa. So what I am saying is that I never considered the v sign as anyting sexual esp for that drawing. People in K probably won't even think of it until someone from another culture mentions it. I'm fairly sure that IU herself does not realize that this can be considered sexual. Second, with the appropriation and use of a lot of foreign words in Korean language, their meaning does get twisted and borrowed for multipurpose. Case in point is the word sexy. The way people in western culture use sexy is not how Korea uses it. People in Korea use it to mean something else. It is used to express their interet in something that is attractive/intriguing but it can also be used the way most international fans use it. There are a lot of translations which get it wrong on youtube and various other places and leave a lot of international fans scratching their head. Just remember that you are watching/listening to things that are intended to be understood as it is used in Korea and not elsewhere. edit: I don't believe in blindly defending someone, even IU, esp if I really agreed with your intrepretation but I don't and that's where I'll leave it.
-
Absoutely agree with you about the use of sexy in Korea. It's like an all purpose word for attractive but it does confuse i-netz because sometimes it does get used correctly in Korea. But most of the time, what I find annoying about those translation sites are that they are quite bad at translating the critical pieces and leaving out critical things like where IU said she finds his personality (sexy)attractive. If you leave out that key word, that really twists the meaning and the intent of the speaker.

My parents and I emigrated quite a while ago from Korea. The ironic thing is that I actually have a relative (two times removed or something) that works for the entertainment news sector. :( After talking with her, I always take everything that shows up on the entertainment news, esp sensational news, with critical eyes. The thing to remember is that entertainment news in Korea is like the grocery gossip rags that you find at the grocery line that claims all sorts of wacky things to get the view. They try to not be liable with writing things like "it is said", "hot topic online claims", or other such lame ways to avoid lawsuit.

@soojsooj everyone will have their opinion and I will disagree. Thank you. I hope some of those bitter knetz will sit down and just shut their trap. Although I think that they may just conveniently choose to ignore it. edit: by the way, awesome writeup. thank you for the link. http://www.asianjunkie.com/2015/11/04/iu-now-being-called-a-sick-pedophile-by-netz-who-are-missing-the-point/

ZeZe's PERSONALITY, not the child. edit: I agree completely. Most people did not view it as such until someone twisted her words out of context and posted it up on pann.
-
@soojsooj Everyone is free to intrepet it however way they want but I am going to have to disagree with you about zeze. I will be frank and say that I'm not into the more loose interpretation that some seem to have given it. Let me give you a little example. During my grandparents period, Korea was still geared toward agriculture. In an agriculture society, water is vital and can be considered a blessing. I remember a childhood service that I attended with my grandmother where the pastor talked about receiving "meul gil eh 축복" loosely translated blessings of water but used in this context it was talking about riches. I'm giving this as an example because I think that we are trying way too hard to fit give it meaning as it relates to what we understand and how we see it vs what IU wrote and what she may have wanted to convey or imply
-
Ok. I have 10 minutes before I have to run off so I will just give you a short version of what IU said. First let me correct the translation. It should have said that she finds his type of personality sexy (I think that the better word here from IU should have been attractive). (My opinion: I think it's safe to say that she likes people who are complex and have depth to them.) She did not say that he is sexy. There is a big difference there. To continue on she says that while reading the story about Zeze with his dual nature, you end up fallling in love with his character and cheering for him. By the way, I'm not saying that it's wrong to intrepret it as you are intrepreting it but that it is just one way of looking at it. That is the true genius of the song. I like it see story of tree and Zeze; there can be other stories in there too based on which "colored glasses" you choose to view it with. edit: By the way, in no way did IU say that the child ZeZe was sexy. That is really reaching.
-
@blue. .. Stop the corruption. I am still driving but at a red light. IU said in that interview that this should be viewed as the tree speaking to ZeZe. I find that since she is the one who wrote it that we should honor that. The duality is talking about 23, the title song. ZeZe is not
-
@Blue ty for the link. I will be driving; I will post a better translation for you once I am sitting down. But in this instance squishy did IU no favor since the translation is a horrible.
-
@blue, how about I reinterpret for you. The tree wants to get Zeze's attention for herself again so like any simple child, she is saying look, look see how pretty I am. Don't look that way, look over here!?! Because the tree has come to love him, she wants him to to spend time with her,not with others. No offense to squishy, but she or he also tend to have errors in their translation too. edit: why don't you pm the link to the original interview? edit 2: like there are different ways to interpret some words based on context and I've often seen some translators not realize the context and just do a straight out one to one, word for word dictionary translation

Ok folks. I've never really seen any interviews by IU where she said he was sexy. I've seen mischievous, innocent, sly, devilish and what not. If that had happened, I'm fairly sure that it would have exploded over the internet way before now. I've seen the sh*t that celebrity rags makeup and later it disappear because of this but I stand by my original opinion that a lot of it is subjective. IU said that the lyrics are from the standpoint of the tree and that sometimes (the tree) she (the tree seems to) gets jealous of the other kids when they take Zeze's attention from the tree and how she views it like a jealous girl views other girls near someone she's interested in. As for lolicon evidence, most of that crud that was used as evidence is all over kpop and pop culture in general. That is pure witch hunt.

By the way folks, I have some good news if you choose to look at it as such. First, there are more people than we think who recognize the ridiculousness of the situation. Second, it seems like those up votes are artificially inflated. Remember I talked about how there are IU antis who create multiple accounts to up vote and leave nasty comments on IU articles? They're doing the same thing. I would say that you can cut down the real count by at least 1/2 or more. Also, as one person stated, nothing is bad forever. Bad times are often followed by good. We should all remember this and expect good things. Just like how those nasty commenters may get satisfaction now but they'll eventually sicken themselves or get caught for something else later on in life. I mean having all that negativity is bound to affect them in real life negatively.
-
That I agree with that it's in Loen's hands now. PLEASE, Loen do not screw this up for IU. Ah I'll keep my fingers crossed that for once they'll do justice.
-
Thank you. I would not wish this upon anyone. I am side eyeing a lot of people on this forum who seems to take pleasure in seeing someone brought low.
-
I do think that what Loen does next will have a big effect on how this turns out. After all, there are still support for IU but it depends on how savy their PR and legal team is. To be frank, Loen sucks at PR and knowing how to promote their artists correctly. Loen needs to beef up their PR team as well as their legal department. I would REALLY like to see Loen sue those malicious commenters esp those that make disgusting statements. They should go after some of the more extreme photoshops of IU that some of those k-netz mentioned and make an example out of them. Make it so they have to think twice before going online to vent their frustation and jealousy. I agree with one of the comments that it's because Loen's been so laid back and let them get away that they think that she makes an easy target and go after her in articles like that. Loen hasn't even sued those who used IU's name for products without endorsement from IU.
-
Blue, it's ok. There are plenty of morons in this world but kpop just seems to attract more than its fair shares if I were to judge by these comments that are getting up voted. One good way to detox is just go for a walk or something. In any case, I would wait to see what B. Spears has to say. Always hope for the best since expecting the worst never really gets you anywhere. I tend to agree with @soojsooj that B. Spears probably doesn't give a s**t about it. I would not want any group to go through what T-ara went through. I'm ashamed to admit that I was really confused back then and sometime couldn't tell what was fabricated and what wasn't. Perhaps we have some of that going on as well. Sigh. Let's just all form a prayer circle and pray for IU.
-
I liked quite a few of Brittany's songs from earlier in her career. I didn't follow her after that though so I don't really know her. The cynical part of me says that Sony is noise marketing. Maybe B. Sphere is looking for a Korean tour? I'm just kidding by the way.
-
Me neither. In the ideal scenario, she could say that this was a really good sampling and she likes IU's song. I'm hoping that's the case so that those k-netz can sit down and shutup. I feel so bad for her right now but you can never tell what will happen. Right now there is this bandwagonning but bashing going on. This an IU hate fest so far as I can see. On a side note, I just saw that tweet with full credit for the Producer 23. If anything, I would say that the those who wrote and mixed the song carry a lot of responsibility for this. I'm not a teenager; I work and I can legally vote, drink, and whatever but I really admire IU for various reasons. This just makes me appreciate her more. I'm not sure that I could have put up with even a quarter of what she puts up with. This is one side of Korea that I do not really like and I admire anyone who is a survivor in that society and maintains their sanity. As some of those sh*tty knetz tauntinly implied, they should never forget that there is karma and one day they'll receive their just dessert. They should remember that hiding behind a keyboard does not guarantee anonymity. I guess those are some of the reason why I enjoy IU and why I find groups like Winner so likeable. I know off topic on that last one.
-
You're welcome. By the way, me too, I couldn't sleep because of this. I mean I really need to sleep now.
-
All, Loen released a statement that they checked with the music composer for Producer 23 and he confirmed that he sampled B. Spheres. I was in a hurry but he may have used what is known as pre cleared sample disc. Loen contacted B. Sphere's record company to confirm and make sure that the song has proper clearance. They are taking no chances here. Edit: btw, some of those netz are confusing the title track 23 with Producer 23. I just had to roll my eyes at how they just come at IU without knowing the difference between the two songs.
