I understand the sentiment. I am switching between work and OH right now and can't pay it as much attention as I would like to.
-
I agree. Even if had nothing to do with IU, that statement was laughable. I am surprised that no one else here caught that though.
-
@chrissy I am with you and Heo Ji Woong. what the publisher stated made absolutely no sense in that regard. "freedom of expression happens under the approval of the public." hmmm. This is so profoundly against the "freedom of expression" that I found myself laughing and thinking how can anyone take this publisher seriously? And at the same time question their motive for speaking up now. With mind set like that they might as well be producing robots and them all programmed to only be allowed to do things if it meets a condition. If(action = permissible) execute; else ....,

Perhaps there is that too. I've often thought that art, literature, songs are so great because of how the same object/song can mean one thing for one person but another thing for someone else. I believe that it all has to do with their own experience in life and how it has shaped their perspective.
-
Hah. I finally got the use of quoting when mobile. In any case, that's good to know. Going up too quickly would have given me a cause for concern.
-
@soojsooj Like I said before, you are free to interpret it as you want but the other interpretation is that she really is describing parts of the story. I never saw the lyrics as having the connotation that you see in it. By the way, yes that tweet calls them out the publisher. I mean doesn't different interpretation bring about new insight/light and insisting on strict view/adherence to their view of things is ridiculous. They are in the business of publishing. They should know better than anyone how important things like this is to their line of business.
-
One another thing because I am annoyed. Unless they are going by an interview version that I did not know about, where are they getting dirty from? Argh I am so annoyed that this is happening. They weren't objecting too strenuously when they were getting that free publicity. They weren't annoyed when she released her song. Why get annoyed over her interview and muddy the water like they are doing now? The lyrics I still do not find objectionable esp so after reading what that one Brazilian user posted. However her interview and the art cover is what is drawing fire but the nets are doing a nice job of muddying the water. Dear God, it feels like this may be at the t-area level witch hunt.

Omg. .., what a way to greet the day. The publisher news is such a cruddy way to start the day. I am disappointed that they chose to interpret it that way. However, the way they backed it up was by using the art for her album against her. I would note that they objected against her wording of him and how she described him in the INTERVIEW, not the lyrics of her song. I am basing this off a quick read here vs a lengthy read of the article. I am especially disappointed because they are in the publishing business and they should know better than most how important artistic freedom is. I almost feel that this was self serving. I am not familiar with the book but the way it is described makes me think that it is not appropriate for children. However I see a lot of people say that they read this book as a child. Does this somehow bring to light and make it questionable its suitability as a children's book? Is what she said about his personality contrary to how he is being protrayed in the novel? Is what IU said about her personality wrong? The only thing that I do feel that IU should take ownership of is the art for ZeZe. Although she wasn't the artist, she was the director and should have paid more attention to detail. I get that. But this thing is too much.
-
Omg. ... Thank you so much... Gosh I wish I could give you so many ++++++s but I can't seem to give anymore out today. I am so glad to see this interpretation since I felt like IU was truly talking/portraying the story but I couldn't say definitively one way or another since I have not read the book. Big hugs and kisses/many thanks!

Well the good thing is that it hasn't gained traction yet. Let's keep on praying that it doesn't. So far it's mainly been on sites like pann and whatnot. I think that this is a serious issue and to try to push anyone into this type of crud should give any sane person second thoughts. I meant what I said before, I hope they/Loen go after some of these little sh*ts and make them pay so that others of their kind will think twice before pulling this type of stunt. I mean it literally that Loen and IU have been really forgiving of attacks on her until that pregnancy slander. Even then they made a mistake and let the guy off scratch free because of his sob story. They need to make an example out of them no matter the sob story. Loen with their bad advice to IU about the slanderer gave people the impression that they can spew sh*t about her with impunity. Unfortunately, because of this, they may have to be more strict this time to show that you can't just mess around as you please and that there are consequences for their action.
-
Well, if nothing else, we'll be more literate. Oh yeah, there was something that I thought of too because of this mess. I think Korea has only itself to blame for it's lack of creativity/variety if this is how they treat artistic expression. While I may not like some of the crazy things that Western celebrities do, the responses are never this extreme. I hope that this all blows over asap. Horrible part of me hopes that it is replaced by something that involves the faves of some of those hateful commenters, just so they can get a taste of their own medicine. I know it's horrible and I shouldn't be thinking this way but this day has taken its toll on me.

This whole mess with ZeZe has made me so curious that I will go and look for a copy of the book, electronic or physical. I really don't see the problem with the song but perhaps I will have a better grasp of the other side once I do read it. I am super curious about the book now.
-
Sad really. I mean just because we are not in Korea does not mean we are somehow exempt from k nets behavior. Hypocrisy knows no national/cultural boundary. This would make a very good discussion on human nature and our desires.

There's nothing wrong with liking them and even being their fan. It's what happens afterwards. I saw some of the posts concerning that new JYP girl group and some of the threads that were started by folks like kamisomething or other were really questionable. You can appreciate them and say they're pretty/cute/beautiful or whatever but I felt that some of the comments really were going into questionable territory for some of their under 18 members. Maybe I'm too old now.
-
I agree that she could have answered things better but wasn't the video made before all of this exploded? The ambiguity of some of the written words can't be helped I thought since you're literally trying to tell a story in the allotted time of the music. By the way, can I say that I've never stayed on OH this long before?!? I would leave for hours and come back and leave again.

A+++ comment about hypocrysy. I mean there is a reason why I never really got into some of the kpop groups, male and female. I liked their song and I even root for them but I automatically draw a line once I know their age. I am not really a fan of this kpop and jpop idols debuting at such a young age. I understand the need for it and why they do it but it does feel like exploitation of minors. It's a really fine line though and where it crosses over into exploitation is not very clear for many people.

kekeke ... i think there is a limit on how much up/down votes you can make in a day. someone can correct me if i'm wrong.
-
By the way guys, I was listening to Red Queen and Glasses in the background and I did not realize how underappreciated those songs were till now. I think I'll chalk this album as her debut album into being a producer. IU still has lots to learn, but I am super excited to see where this path takes her.

@Garden. Ty. That was well said. I saw this posted by @ogreShrek (?) at one of the threads: "It started with Dispatch revealing that she was dating someone - that someone happened to be quite a bit older than her - she put out a statement admitting to it before Loen did - her antis started crawling out of the woodwork to attack her for dating 'scandals' that happened in the past... - then it was discovered that one of her songs (an OST which was included as a bonus in her latest album) contained a sample from a Britney Spears song - people started regurgitating past instances where she was alleged to have been guilty of plagiarism (even though all the previous allegations had already been disproven) - despite it having been pointed out that she did not actually write that problematic song, the attacks against her continued unabated, with the focus shifted to how her fans had previously been quick to hail her as a composer-singer-artist but were now denying she composed the song (the truth be damned) - the hate reached Kafkaesque proportions when it emerged that the k-netizens were hating on her for the wrong song (which shared the same title as her album), meaning people were bandwagoning on the hate train without actually listening to the songs to see if there was any plagiarism... - next, the lyrics of another of her songs were dissected and interpreted to suggest paedophiliac connotations - cue the latest mass hysteria..." I think that's a very good synapses of what is happening. I especially liked the part that I bolded and underlined part. I do feel like the hate reached a new level when that happened and they are now obsessed even more with her.
-
Do you know that I find this situation funny but tragic? It's funny how much reaching there is going on from pann but the more tragic part of this is how much some i-netz are just eating it up and buying into it. Really when you try to interject reasonable explanations or facts, they're like you're making excuses for her. I would like some positive news now please.

I saw one the entertainment news where she was talking with her fans but I am seeing a lot of false written account of it here. IU talked about duality of ZeZe and how she found his personality sexy (konglish version) and how this is why you end up falling in love with his character and cheering for him as the story progresses. I absolutely believe that there is no intention of the word sexy being used in the context of anything sexual but that it's a word that has been appropriated by Korea and has dual meaning.
