  1. I've been reading Moby Dick since Christmas 2015 rlytearpls.png

I feel you, sometimes it takes too damn long to get through a book.

Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.  I'll finish it eventually.

I recommend The Blue Castle by LM Montgomery

Eyy how is Purple Hibiscus. I ordered Half of a Yellow Sun a few days ago.

American Gods by Neil Gaiman. He's one of my favorite authors and I've been putting it off for so long but oh my god it's one of the best books I've read. It has scenes like the English fantasy I love so much and other cultures religions/myths, all coming together in America.

This is one of those books that's taking me forever to get through. I'm halfway through after a year.

I'm currently reading Pet Sematary by Stephen King.

Some I've read recently that I'd recommend are 11/22/63 also by King (historical fiction/science fiction), A Book of American Martyrs by Joyce Carol Oates (contemporary fiction), A Tale for the Time Being by Ruth Ozeki (contemporary fiction/some magical realism), and A Kiss Before Dying by Ira Levin (mystery/thriler).

A Kiss Before Dying led me to read Rosemary's Baby, which I liked overall (not into the payoff at the end tho). I also just bought Levin's The Stepford Wives which I'm eager to get into.

Same with Tale for the Time Being--it's taking me a while to get through, idk why though. I really love Nao's chapters, but Ruth's chapters are harder for me to get through.

  2. I need some books to read over the holidays. Just finished Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson, which was pretty good, a little dense, but if you're into cyberpunk, science fiction and history, you'll probably like it.

Sooo OH, what books are you reading right now? Or what are some of your favorite books that you would recommend to someone? Can be any genre.

  3.

a few days ago, person A in my academic program asked me what korean music i listen to, and i mentioned BTS. then person B, who is an incredibly smart but chill guy (and the last person on earth i would expect) was like "omg i know them. everyone was talking about them at the AMAs... like everyone in the crowd was there for BTS. and i saw them on ellen, and it wasn't like other bands where one person is the most popular, but every member had so many fans cheering for them when they introduced themselves." i was like O.O he went out of his way to watch them on ellen. since i only use kpop-related sites for bts stuff, i don't actually ever talk about BTS with anyone in other parts of my life, so it was cool to see firsthand the extent of BTS' exposure.

  4. I don't think so, unless I missed something. There's a video of him looking tired or out of breath while they're waiting for the Artist of the Year award to be announced. But I haven't seen anything that legitimately looks like him being in pain. So idk.

When I read his tweet and saw that fancam of him seemingly in pain I was a bit worried but just thought of it as normal exhaustion but then I saw that clip of them coming in for a group hug after the artist of the year announcement and it looked like his legs buckled under him or either he stumbled. That was quite concerning for me. So I am a bit worried now...

If someone can link that clip/ gif to confirm...

They just performed minutes before and had to go up again for the award. Maybe he was exhausted from that.

Was this pic already shared? Is that JK?

  5. Weird as in Sam giving Jeff a hint about their comeback?

On first glance, it did, but then I realized that Sam would get in trouble if she did reveal anything that she wasn't supposed to. (For example, she knew BTS would attend BBMA before the public, but she didn't say anything until BH revealed it first.) It is likely that she have received permission from Bighit to give out hints. It is a sort of promotional strategy, especially if that person is from an organization like Billboard, Times, radio, etc.

Publicists give insiders scoops all the time, it is the benefit of being in the business.

Have they done/said anything to make you feel that way? Personally I'm indifferent toward them, like I don't get why a lot of the fandom is crazy for them, they're just doing their jobs and in some instances people have felt Sam slipping in hers.

Sent from my iPhone using OneHallyu mobile app

What do you mean? In what way?

Can you identify what exactly it is that causes this unsettling feeling? Or around when it started? Maybe that can help in identifying what about them is setting you off.

It could also be the underlying uneasiness that you get from the fact that they're just people doing their jobs, Samantha as their US publicist and Jeff as someone who writes for whoever is popular in Kpop and panders a bit to his audience, that maybe they don't care about BTS, but only how BTS can benefit them.Maybe you feel like there's a good a chance they'll turn on them when something bad happens or if relations sour (more Jeff though, I don't see Samantha doing this).

Maybe you dislike how much control they hold over BTS, how much of what they do is a direct impact on BTS in terms of how they're promoted and showcased to US audiences, how easily their image can get tarnished.

Maybe it's the whole publicist thing? There was that one guy who tweeted at BTS during the BBMAs asking if any of them was gay, and he got DRAGGED. Samantha tweeted at him about BTS though, so she could've been responsible for drawing his attention to them. Maybe you don't like how the company's managed their US promotions so far? That they're doing a poor job?

Something to work with might help in figuring out what's the problem. And when it's out in the open and discussed, maybe you'll come to terms with it or maybe not... we can try. xD

Also, do you follow Samantha on her twitter? I'm asking because I remember someone tweeting that they thought Samantha was a 'bitch', literally they called her that, but after following her, they realised she was quite okay. She liked the tweet, that's how I know. laugh.png

The Perez Hilton thing definitely made me side-eye the publicists, and I don't think their decisions have all been strategic or good. Overall though, most of my uneasiness is probably me being overly cautious and wary about U.S. marketing/publicity tactics. As for Jeff, I'm tired of his articles and posts. I'll usually skip things with his name on it. There's something about his work that rubs me the wrong way. But this could be amplified because I really want a Jay Caspian Kang of K-pop to emerge and Jeff is not that lol

  6. My problem with AJ is that he's using BTS just like all the other media outlets are using them. I read his site and generally agree with the tone of his writing, but his coverage on the BBMAs and the aftermath has been so irritating to me

Once again, nobody really cares about what BTS is actually about or what they're actually doing or how their story actually may be different from those who came before. In the end, it's still all about clicks

^ i was thinking that too.  the article doesn't really bother me too much since it's too blatant about it ;-;  the writer got the clicks anyway - from both armys and non-armys.

lmao ot but i'm so impressed at how strong my mental strength has become after getting into bangtan.  it may sound a bit dramatic but really, i've become so tolerant to trash talk/baity content?

I understand the criticisms being levied against the article/author cause I have issues with it too, but wow 300+ comments on that article. People rolled up their sleeves and went to towwnnn in the comments like

Wellll, AJ got the clicks they wanted.

  7. When people spew forth nasty/rude comments about any idol, whether I am a fan of the idol or not, I feel like they're just getting bad karma in real life, and bad shit will happen to them later. I get that everyone has criticisms, which is fine, but I don't understand how people can say unwarranted horrible shit and not feel like a terrible person. Anyway, karma is coming for you.

  8. YAAAAS #24! I think he mentioned in his speech that he and his company were worried with his previous ranking and that his confidence dropped quite a bit from it. I hope he gets a better start now with his renewed confidence!

Did they show who won the arm wrestling or did my eyes conveniently missed it..?

    C_E-kBAUIAA0d3h.jpg:large

I don't think they showed the results of his arm wrestling match.

I swear, they need to give Big Woojin more screen time.
