People in this thread constantly overuse the term uncanny valley for people where that term doesn't really fit, it's nothing new.

You'd think everyone looks like this.

Remember the online celebrity girl who had plastic surgery at the age of 13? Spend 4 million into a monster, parents can't recognize - newsstar| DayDayNews

Uncanny valley does not mean looking deformed beyond recognition.

Uncanny valley is a feeling from seeing something or someone look human, act human, but there is just something off that cannot be described, only felt. When it’s a case of someone’s behavior that is off, it’s called a gut feeling. When it’s appearance based, it’s uncanny valley. So if people feel off but you don’t, it doesn’t mean they are misusing uncanny valley, it means you have a higher tolerance/they have lower tolerance.

Feelings are not in a objective scale, it really depends on the person.

What happened to Wendy is a mystery to me tbh. To me she was so pretty at debut. I have a feeling that a surgeon smooth talked her into something.

It’s probably a culture within SM to be obsessed with smaller jawlines and she developed body issues as a result of it. I remember watching a video someone who passed the first round of SM auditions, and she overheard the casting manger(?) to say her jaw needed shaving. If someone would mention that in the casting audition of all places, it seems to be something they seek constantly from their idols, which probably explains why SM idols tend to have more pronounced jaw shavings than others in the industry.

I’m having no luck finding that video now, I wanted to show it here so everyone could see her jaw was just fine.
    EDIT: Found it

Interesting that allegedly they targeted girl groups only, I suppose they really wanted IVE to rise as they put all their eggs into that basket? there are other girl groups under Kakao Ent but they don't seem to have the same popularity/are already seniors (e.g. APink).

According to this they have done that to hype other groups under their labels like StayC, and not just girl groups, but also Cravity, the Boyz and Monsta X too.

In my opinion, IVE is getting the most attention out of all those groups because Kpop fans tend to pick the most on groups they consider a threat to their faves. Kakao might have inflated the numbers, but IVE does have a genuine big fandom on their own, so it’s important to those kind of fans to use this controversy as an excuse to diminish their achievements even more, rather than care about the whole thing as an ethical issue.

weight talk, just a heads up for anyone who may be uncomfortable.

I just came across this video of newjeans and Danielle seems very... thin. Is this just her body type? I remember some pages ago others mentioned that she had more weight predebut and idk, my initial reaction was that she looks concerning now but I don't want to get ahead of myself since she seems to have visually longer body parts that might add to the illusion of being thinner. The other girls seem to be of healthy weight so it emphasized the difference. Am I reaching?? 😭

Kpop industry as a whole is particularly pressuring to idols with round faces. Danielle, Wonyoung, Sowon, Sooyoung, Lovelyz Kei and others that I cannot recall now tend to look thinner than the rest of the group. It’s true gaining weight can show in your face, but these girls are round faced, it’s not fat, it’s bone, no matter how skinny they get, it’s not going to melt away.

This is so incredibly sad and tragic. So many families just lost their child.

A lot of people wonder how these situations unfold, and why people don’t simply get out. I came across this video that explains how these events occur and how awful it is.

Glad that you posted this link. I found this video below from the event (not graphic, but under spoiler just in case because it does have disturbing moments) to see what happened. People were just walking around, they weren’t doing anything crazy, but they got stuck in parts of the roads that had no exits. In parts that were easier to pass through, people did escape.

Video OP actually gets stuck and at circa 6:05 minute mark, and there’s a wave that pushes them backwards and it makes people scream. An exit can be see later at 9:00 minute mark, but OP gets stuck in another wave while trying to reach it. Finally they get out the crowd at 10:30 minute mark, though they do get caught in one last wave.

Mind you, this is the example of a person who was close to an exit, and even they barely managed to pass through. Yikes.

  6. Time.

We want to see world peace within our lifetime and statistically speaking, we are trending towards world peace, but it will take far longer than human lifespan to achieve it. Yes, we have problems, wars, violence, human greed etc. but the average person does not realize how much worse it used to be, because we have not lived to experience it.

That makes people don’t feel like things have changed for better, even though they have. For example, this is a graph showing decline of poverty globally:

    world_population_in_extreme_poverty_abso

Does that mean people are wrong for complaining about their work-life balance? No, but it goes to show the standards are different of what people need today. We have higher standards for ourselves than we used to have, because he have gradually crossed obstacles we used to have in the past.

What applies to that graph about global poverty, applies to global violence, childhood mortality etc. Things have changed for better. They are just don’t feel enough because we do not have enough time on Earth to experience these changes.

Fans apparently noticed that around before debut time she got implants done, along with nose surgery and eyelids. There’s pictures of her scars, and she looks so big now compared to before. I also thought she was using really big padding but I always wondered how do idols that pad, dance with all the padding, does it ever move? I think that’s how I noticed how unnatural it looks, they don’t follow natural physics I guess lol. No matter how tight clothing I wear, when I dance, they move. They also look really abnormal on her petite frame and the way they just defy gravity. But then I realized she looks so big even in day to day activities not just promotions, and that would be exhausting to pad yourself everyday to look that same amount. Someone posted a whole video about it yesterday and I was pretty shocked, I didn’t know female kpop idols would do it so young tbh

I dreaded that video because it’s from Sojang, and she is quite a shit stirrer, but the comments seem to not be cruel towards her. Chaewon’s changes enhance her beauty. I was almost going to applaud her surgeon for what they did to her until I saw how big her underarm scar was. I’m not going to applaud them now because they should have been more careful, but I still like how natural she looks, the enchantments are almost invisible.
