  1. Whenever I read "you should expect stalking, you're famous", I read "you deserve being made uncomfortable because you are young and rich". That attitude is pretty much the basis of American tabloid culture, anyway. I'm kind of glad Tao is more upfront than most celebs, I just feel bad because people often try to use your own feelings against you, even moreso if you are well-known.
  2. Sorry, haven't read past this yet, so if this is already addressed I apologize, but: this is often a bad assumption. Even when idols can't/don't speak English does not mean they can't read Engish. It goes with learning another language, your proficiency skills don't all improve at the same rate. For example, I know I can read Korean better than I can speak or write it. And by now, there are a lot of idols either raised in the west or have studied in western schools in the business, their publicists or their interns are often multilingual, and unlike most of the western world vis a vie Korean, Korean children are now exposed to English and western culture at a young age, both inside or outside the classroom. I think the latter point is most important--I think because English-speaking westerners (mostly Americans) aren't used to this kind of systematic exposure to another language, because of this knowing we are clueless about other languages, think the rest of the world would be just as clueless about English as well. Nope. So this speculation stuff is never "safe", so...take from that what you will. I'm obviously reading the thread, so there's that. Also about your biases disappointing you with homophobic comments: I don't know how many of you are LGBTQIA people who are also employed, but I'm a queer woman who works, and I hate the "no homo" stuff but I know there is a real-world aspect to this too. Even if you are gay/lesbian/bi or an ally, not everyone else is. The more tolerant idols have to live and work with people in their group who range from being straight up homophobic to mildly uncomfortable with it. They often do not want to alienate them. I know I wouldn't want to alienate people who I work with, so I know they can't afford to alienate people they spend nearly 24 hours a day with. They need to think about their colleagues as well. They don't want another idol outside of their group telling their manager "I don't feel comfortable working with so-and-so because they like men/women". And all talk about "collectivist culture" aside, it really sucks being the odd one out. Their superiors, older people from a previous, less tolerant generation like managers, producers, CEOs, etc can also make or break their careers if they find an idol too "suspicious". Most of the gay people who are "out" (either explicitly or "for all intents and purposes"), if you notice, they are vets. They have paid their dues and proven themselves near indispensable. Not everyone is so fortunate. I know it sucks that we have to make concessions for heteronormative culture, but we all gotta eat, and they most likely have career goals for the future once they stop being idols that would be decimated if the wrong person/people didn't want them around. Everyone can have their own opinion on any idol you want (note: I'm not defending homophobia), but I think the practical issues around gender identity/sexual orientation or often ignored while we are speculating. This is all entertainment, folks. Edited to add: I also respect Koreans (either native or diasphoric) who do address homophobia in their society, and by no means seek to invalidate their efforts; again, I'm not "excusing" anyone, certainly not because they are Korean. My points were just about them being working adults.
  3. That was me just replying to posts as I saw them on the page. I'll try to edit in the future when I think that no one has posted after me, but this thread is so hot I honestly thought that there were other people posting since I made my previous post. I'm not trying to inflate my post number or anything. I don't follow the others enough to have a theory that could hold up to any kind of scrutiny, but I like thinking that Tao is gay and Kai is bi from the little "evidence" I see that confirms this thinking. And then, I think I only have that feeling about Tao because of the power of suggestion, since sooo many people think so lol. But they all look so young to me that I like to think that all of their crushes on any gender are asexual and they are all innocent virgins lol. I'm delu like that. It should feel fine because being gay isn't insulting.
  4. Hm, I'm just not convinced he wouldn't screw the right girl though. I can see Heechul having trouble finding a girl that can keep up with him and keep his interest. I'm all for continuing to investigate with an open mind though...and i'm loving the gay trolling he's doing since he got back
  5. I think D.O. is straight. I think he'll grow up to be a womanizer, actually. If he is gay though, he would have pimp status with the guys too. He just seems to have that kind of cocky bravado that a lot of short guys have.
  6. I think the whole "I'm prettier than most girls" thing is just him affirming his diva status lol (besides it, you know, being the truth lol). I'm a girl who thinks I'm prettier than a lot of girls and I still fuck them.
  7. I agree 100%. It's certainly not ideal, but if it makes their lives easier, then they gotta do what they gotta do. Also, AFAIK, this is probably the only way gay people in Korea have any hope of adopting children, unless Korean adoption agencies are more lenient on single applicants than I'm inclined to think. Even in America it's harder to adopt if you're single.
  8. Actually I think Heechul is the epitome of bi/pansexual: if he likes it enough, he'll screw it.
  9. I wonder if idols are just exempt, like it's pretty much accepted that their "normal" is not korea's normal. Kind of like how idols, especially females, can get away with wearing clothes that no average Korean can. That, and I think the average Korean guy thinks most guy idol groups are generally "gay", like American boys thought the 90s boybands were "gay". That's been the reaction of my asian ex from France, where men also seem to be more expressive of their friendship than Americans.
  10. He looks like he's telling the other person something very quickly. And I'm someone quick to go at the littlest things, haha.
  11. I can't find the article now, but it was confirmed by a LGBT advocate in Korea that these lavender marriages are very very common in Korea, although I think it's sadder when only one partner knows that he or she is really not straight (as opposed to gays and lesbians getting into these mutually beneficial arrangements with full knowledge of the other). If Siwon were to fake it with anyone, I would think Sooyoung would be a better choice. They both come from a wealthy Christian background. But this is about lesbians so: As opposed to some people on this thread, I actually think that SNSD's Tiffany is gay or bi. She would be the perfect "lipstick lesbian". Yuri strikes me as being "heteroflexible": very open to different experiences.
  12. Even if Ryeowook is straight (ha!), I wouldn't blame him for rollin' around in some Heecul. Heechul is just that awesome.
  13. Here's what I was referring to: http://www.allkpop.com/article/2013/08/boa-thanks-choi-si-won-for-being-such-a-good-friend http://www.soompi.com/2013/08/10/choi-si-wons-nickname-is-boas-manager/
  14. I find the BoA gay vibes interesting because her and Siwon are such good friends (she said she can always count on him to console her in hard times, he's known as her guardian, etc.). They insist that they are just friends and I wholeheartedly believe that. I get "closeted gay" vibes from them both and I think they support each other because of that.
  15. The "as we all know, there are no gays in korea" comment was from me. Yes, I was being sarcastic, repeating very ridiculous things that some Koreans actually have said online lol. edit - And I actually don't know if the person who responded to me was a girl. r/kpop has more fanboys than fangirls in it.
