Which male idols do you think are gay?
개털 replied to cold soba's topic in Celebrity News & Gossip
I have similar feelings about Sungmin, even if I hesitate to think it's 100% correct. I want him to be happy, so I'm hoping that lightning struck and they are in love, or it's a lavender marriage (not ideal, but not a bad arrangement considering). I didn't know about what Japanese VIPs were saying about Kiko. Interesting! -
Probably wasn't mentioning Sulli, and Jessica is KoreanAm, meaning she has somewhere else to go (she's not "trapped" in just the SK domestic industry just because of her passport/citizenship status).
-
They mention their ethnicity as if being a non-Korean/KoreanAm in Kpop doesn't lead to more alienation, being passed up, being under more scrutiny, etc. Sure foreigners have somewhere else to go, but they seem to be mistaking the effect for the cause.

This is why I'm hesitant to jump to the "beard" conclusion with people like GD and Sungmin. It's entirely possible but life isn't always so predictable. -

I experience it as "appreciation of his masculinity, as well as the masculinity of other men". It's hard for me to describe without sounding like I'm hating on femmes, but what I mean is this: even with a femme/genderqueer gay man, he appreciates the fact that he has a penis, and could write poems about his ass, even if the guy in question is a hard top. I know this is an old post, but I'm on mobile and replying to this was a good way to get on the current page otl -

I think a lot of OHers don't really have experience with co-ed partying + believe some fantasy about China's/Asia's clubbing scene being somehow more innocent than western ones, which allows them to get 100% "proof" of Tao's heterosexuality from this tabloid piece. When in reality, it really says nothing about his sexuality since there's no handbook outlining gay/straight behavior while drunk lol. -

It's okay. All I was saying was Eunhae both see their relationship as a strong friendship, but along the way, they may have developed feelings for each other. However, their commitment to having their relationship be seen as affectionate but platonic ("just friends") blinds them to the possibility that it could be romantic. Or they feel like there could be something more, but doesn't want to risk what they have with the other by bringing it up. And I know this is all in my head with no evidence that I know of, but I mentioned I have seen this happen in my real life between 2 guy friends so I get the same vibe from them. I hope that's a better explanation! It's complicated for me to think about, so I'm not good at putting it in words. Sorry. -

Do you remember where he showed this. I believe you, he seems socially liberal when it comes to race too, so seeing proof would be nice. Lol Siwon is forever third-wheeling on that ship. It seems like his past shipmates abandoned him (I'm thinking of Kyuhyun here). I'm starting to think Eunhae is some kind of inception ship: they had good chemistry so they were encouraged to promote it, so they think apart of it is for show, but admist all that is real adorkable love, but they are shielded by that because of their dedication to keep up a "hetero life-partner bro" image*. *Having been witness to something like this in real life makes me believe in this possibility lol. -

Eh...it seems like they are just using homosexuality as a gimmick/joke to me. They know fans like it, but only if it stays a fantasy :-/ -
...This...was the kind of mess I was talking about on my last paragraph. giant-sigh.gif

Your edit changes nothing. People have a right to say whatever they want. They don't have the right for people to blindly accept everything they say without criticizing them. Literally no one is trying to attack the "rights of straight people" lol.

I thought Swings took his phobic statement back in a song. Anywho, there have been idols who make homophobic statements and agree with them completely (even though I suspect a lot of the no homo stuff is to avoid being ostracized). The intl fandom can be pissed about it all we want though, but I don't think it will affect the artist him/herself unless more in the k-fandom (in Korea and abroad) call them out on it. I don't doubt there are Korean people who are offended, but I suspect they either weren't fans to begin with so they just write that idol off, or just leave the fandom because they know they will be outnumbered by overly devoted fans. Of course, we should keep talking about it regardless because there are a lot of homophobes in the intl fandom who would learn from others calling out idols for behavior they themselves would support. I find their homophobia sadly ironic--most of them are girls/women, and they don't see that a lot of homophobia stems from misogyny (shaming traditionally female traits in men because any activity associated with women is inherently inferior to traditionally male activities). I think SJ fans got the iimpression that Siwon isn't so uptight about that anymore. I know not all transgendered people are gay, but just discussing the lgbtq spectrum, I know people felt Henry's reaction at Heechul's appearance ("I thought he was transgender!") was transphobic. Ironically, little to no effort was made to call him out on it in the English-speaking intl community when he's from Canada, so there would have been less of a language barrier! I think what grinds my gears more than homophobic k-idols are the Korean men who say they don't like kpop because it is "effeminate". This includes Korean hiphop artists. On their diss tracks, Swings had so many homophobic/misogynistic statements ("I Control You" I think??), and Simon D had some too. I don't like it in American hiphop, so why would I tolerate it just because someone Korean says it?? Edit: Correction: Swing's track was "King Swings Part 2". Gaeko's was "I Control You" (which I liked, but can't confirm any homophobic verses were in it because of the language barrier). Simon D's was called "Control". (Sry for any mistakes--on mobile)

I was wondering about this too. I was thinking about the gay/bi guys in Korea too. With all this "no homo" bro culture emerging, I wonder what will happen with gay men and their same-sex affection that used to fly under the radar for the most part. I know there have been Korean men who have sworn up and down that the concept of common male-male skinship in Korea is a fangirl myth, but others (men and women) have said that they are just more self-conscious about it because LGBT issues are being talked about more (so the denial of male-male skinship may be another "no homo" response). Talk about a catch-22. The same thing happened in the US though, so maybe it's just human nature to dig our heels in when change comes. I don't know if it will affect same-sex affection with women so much, but I could be wrong. -

After reminding myself of what that was, yes I'd say this is fairly accurate. But once the warmth out with that kid, it's out. If I wasn't such a Henry fan I would think he was downright cheesy. Speaking of Henry, idk if this has been posted here already because SuJu is like low-hanging fruit when it comes to this subject, but I always get a kick out of this Henry/Donghae/Eunhyuk interaction - (Henry/Donghae stage kiss + jealous Eunhyuk): -

I don't tend to get excited about these things until I see it. Everyone was excited about 4Ladies showing lesbian affection, but IMO, the song actually isn't that great. I don't know about Jieun, but Yongguk is pretty socially conscious. He helped think up the concept of Badman and that was a concept based on Detroit. I'm a Michigander so I have mixed feelings about the project (don't want to derail) but I still recognize for a person from a completely different country to care about what's going on in my state enough to make music about it is still significant. And he tweets about major world events when he has the time. The Gaza Strip, Syria, and the Pope's visit to Korea (not even Christian and that still melted my heathen heart, geez) have been issues that have showed up in his timeline. -

I've always been doubtful about that fanservice...WAIT HEAR ME OUT lol Yes, those gifs look racy, but they don't look that believable when watching full clips. Even in the first one, in a full clip of that move, Taemin moves his hand away from Jonghyun's belt like it gave him static shock. Like he thought "Woah, ok, too much, tone it down." Not saying neither of them are gay or bi and not saying "this blatant display proves they aren't gay" either (like really, what is this reasoning even...). Lord knows I still never get tired of seeing it, so no matter what, it's still an honorable mention -

Can we call ourselves on ours though? Doesn't this topic count? Because I like normalizing homosexuality/non-heteronormativity through conversation but sometimes the lines that shouldn't be crossed are hard for me to see. ...Is this to meta? ...I'm gonna go sip some tea and scan kpop twitter now -

Just to clarify, I didn't mean to imply a strong emotion like "hate" either. "Hate" doesn't have to be involved in discrimination for it to be discrimination. I wouldn't say "hate" is what has been exhibited here, if that helps~ -

I agree. But on the basis that it is meant for gay men and that should be respected. Honestly, I'm not a fan of the argument being made on the basis of straight up misogyny or femme-phobia. I think that's the beef here, right? Like, I don't like straight girls at clubs for gays and lesbians but not because they are too feminine, but I really love femme lesbians and bi women, so straight women really gum up the works lol. Being a bi femme chick myself, I know that femme lesbian/bi womem invisibility is real, so that makes it worse tbh. So, could be a "right for the wrong reasons" issue? -

Bless this post lol. In that second Heechul gif, is he kissing Henry? I think I read somewhere that Henry wasn't really into the fanservice when he first started. Gotta say, the guy has adapted really well in that regard. I'm thinking of the bromance b/w him and Donghae on Happy Camp (silver hair Donghae era). Idk, being in cute relationships myself with my guy and girlfriends, I like seeing others in them, so their bromance was like... :tear: -

Preach. And according to Eddie Izzard, a lot of cross-dressing men are heterosexual and identify as men. -
