  1. iKON's Chanwoo Teams Up With 'Fortnite' & Samsung to Create New Skin

    3/4/2019 by Tamar Herman

Later this month, certain Samsung phone-owning players of Fortnite will be able to unlock a special skin based on K-pop star Jung Chanwoo of boy band iKON.

A new outfit, dubbed the “iKONIK,†and emote created in collaboration with Chanwoo will be made available in the game on Friday. They will be accessible only by users gaming on Galaxy S10, S10+ and S10e devices.

Chanwoo and the rest of iKON will appear at SXSW next week and will head to New York City to launch the collaboration at Samsung 837 in New York City on March 16, which will also feature gamer Ninja. The group will perform at the event, which will also be live-streamed on Twitch.

iKON, who got their start in 2015, saw major hits in South Korea last year through the release of several singles, including “Love Scenario†and “Goodbye Road.†They most recently landed their EP New Kids: The Finalon the World Albums chart at No. 4 on the chart dated Aug. 11 of last year.

K-pop stars regularly collaborate with gaming products, and last year saw the viral League of Legends-based hit “POP/STARS†by virtual girl group K/DA, which featured two members of (G)-IDLE, and Bobby of iKon feature on the remix of "Rise," also for League of Legends.

SINGAPORE- Fans of South Korean boyband iKON were in for a treat on Thursday (Feb 21), when they turned up the heat with spirited performances of their hit songs at the Resorts World Theatre in Resorts World Sentosa.

The group of seven was in town as part of Samsung's Unleash Next Gen Bold event, where the latest Galaxy S10 and S10+ smartphones were unveiled.

At the invite-only event, the band performed to an audience of more than 1,500 adoring fans, many of whom toted official iKON lightsticks, dressing the theatre in a sea of luminous red.

Decked out in grey and black suits, iKON members looked suave as they kicked off their 40-minute appearance with the 2018 hit Love Scenario, with the fans chanting along to the chorus.

During a 20-minute Q&A session, they fielded questions on the Galaxy S10+ smartphone, demonstrated their "flossing" dance moves and showed off goofy selfie expressions.

When asked what words they would use to describe their Singaporean fans, member Kim Jin Hwan likened them to Siloso Beach on Sentosa.

"Siloso Beach is a beautiful beach and I think our Singaporean fans are as beautiful, or even more beautiful," quipped the 25-year-old.

The group capped the night with the heart-pumping Killing Me (2018) and Bling Bling (2017), as many fans rose to their feet to sing along.

The band effortlessly worked the crowd, with member Song Yun Hyeong, 24, pausing to take selfies with fans near the front of the stage.

While the group performed only three songs, many fans were left satisfied, and undergraduate Ng An Ning, 23, was one of them.

She said: "It's my first time seeing them and it's really exciting because I never thought I'd ever get to see them live."

  3. The Verge:  Fortnite has an exclusive K-pop skin for those who preorder the Galaxy S10 Plus

    K-pop meets gaming again
    By Shannon Liao@Shannon_Liao   Feb 20, 2019

Samsung made an exclusive Fortnite skin for people who buy the new Galaxy S10 Plus phone. It’s K-pop-themed, and it’s modeled after Jung Chan-woo, a member of South Korean boy band iKon.

You may not have heard of iKon, but just know it’s a seven-member band from YG Entertainment, which also brought bands like Big Bang and 2NE1 to fame. Like their predecessors, iKon mostly performs hip-hop, from catchy ballads to more straight-up rap. Chan-woo is known as the group’s youngest member, or the maknae, who’s usually unofficially responsible for bringing more cuteness to a group.

The deal is exclusive to the S10 Plus, so if you’re planning on getting a regular S10, you won’t qualify. It feels like Samsung is trying to incentivize more mobile gamers to buy the S10 Plus, boasting that its new Snapdragon 855 processor will translate into smoother gameplay. Whether you get the S10 or S10 Plus, Samsung is also throwing in Galaxy Buds as part of the bargain.

Samsung’s partnership with Fortnite started last year when its devices were the first to get Fortnite on Android, which also included an exclusive skin for those who preordered a new phone. In addition to the new Fortnite skin, Samsung’s also partnering with Epic Games, Twitch streamer Ninja, and iKon for an upcoming gaming event in March.

Gaming and K-pop seem to have a habit of crossing over. Last fall, Riot Games released a K-pop-like video and an augmented reality performance starring four champions from its lead game League of Legends.

  6. I still can't believe this, last year I had said that a Double B unit album would be best and here we are. I do believe it will be a full album considering unit and solo songs if we take into account that DoubleB have been working on solo songs for quite some time now, I'm sure they have plenty.
