  1. Boyfriend captured the hearts of several million mommys and older sisters throughout the nation...and they weren't going to let their babies lose no matter what.

Performance wise, they were really good...for their age.  They weren't really better in any way than KWINS were.  If you had the exact same performances by boy trainees the same age as the KWINS girls, they would have lost.  But they always had the "for their age" advantage.  I think just in the last episode alone, the judges used the phrase "for their age" (the Korean equivalent) at least half a dozen times to praise them.  So, in the end, they definitely discounted the KWINS score because the KWINS members were experienced trainees and older and they added points for Boyfriend to take into account their age.  It's not really in the Kpop Star rules to do that...but then the producers can pretty much do whatever they want anyway.

I disagree. They beat KWINs fair and square. KWINs beat them in round 1, but lost by a greater margin in round 2. "Thriller" had very little energy or originality, while "Swing Baby" was on point, showing their ability to adapt to a different style. BF were great, period. The "for their age" stuff ended months ago, as far as I'm concerned.

  2. I'm pretty sure YG/JYP will snag Boyfriend. Either one agency will sign them as a duo or they'll split them up. These two agencies like casting young talents and lock them up for about around 5-7 years. But not gonna lie, the process is quite effective.

Hyun Jin likely will end up at one of those agencies, but I'm starting to have doubts about either JYP or YG keeping him paired with Jong Seob. YG would probably be more likely to than JYP, but Hyun Jin has surpassed his partner by a enough of a margin over the course of the competition that I could see either company signing him alone. Remember how Hyun Jin entered KS6 as a rapper, then was encouraged to sing by the judges because they felt he wasn't at Jong Seob's level? That worm turned 180-degrees in a few months. It's gonna be interesting to see what happens after the series ends.

  3. Even though the judges on several occasions compared Jin-ee to her sister, Jay (season 5), and said that Jin-ee was better, I think Jay is actually the better singer by a long shot.  They both of course have the potential to be phenomenal singers in the future.  Unfortunately, talent alone is often not enough.  They need the backing of a solid company.  Unfortunately, there's a strong possibility that they will not be heard from again in any major way (as has been the case with the vast majority of promising talent that has appeared on Kpop Star during the past 6 seasons).

Yeah, calling Ji-ni better than Jay was ridic from the get-go. They're both great, but Jay is way more advanced. Jay seemed to burn out toward the end of her run, and made some odd song choices, especially Hit The Road, Jack which got her eliminated during the Top 6 round. It was a sad way to see her go out, honestly.

  4. Shannon, as always, is a wild card. She'll either be boring or crush it. I think only one GG makes the Final because my gut tells me that either Shannon or BF will have a great performance, and at this point it's more likely to be Shannon.

Well, I was half right, lol.

Not gonna lie, there haven't been many blow-my-mind performances on KS6 for a while now, of the sort that I want to watch over and over again. I can't remember what the last such performance was, tbh. I have been waiting for someone to burn the place down with a killer stage for a while now, and Boyfriend finally delivered. That stage was everything I've been waiting for, and it justified their making the Top 4 for me. Jong Seob was like a hungry panther, full of confidence and arrogance, determined to make everyone forget ablout last week. Hyun Jin sounded better than ever. He's gonna be a star with or without Jong Seob in tow. It was awesome, and they deserved their first place showing.

The rest were good, if not spectacular. I thought the judges scores were dead on for all of them, and the audience pick of KWINs was the correct choice in my estimation, although they really could have picked any of them and I'd have no huge problem with it. BF going in off of an amazing stage compared to KWINs might actually work against them, as it's going to be hard for them to top it, or equal it, really. KWINs, otoh, has room for perceived improvement. I'm obviously pulling for BF, but I really like Chrisha and Hye Rim, too, so I'll be happy if they win. I'm excited and melancholy for next week's show. I'm bummed the series is ending.

  5. My predictions:

Top 4 are exactly the same as Ronnie:

    Boyfriend
    Go Ara/Hyerim
    Sohee/Soomin
    Shannon

    Top 2:

    Boyfriend
    Go Ara/Hyerim

    Winner:

    Boyfriend

Having not updated my predictions after the GG merge, I'm gonna go ahead and say I still called the Top 4, lol.

Pretty disappointing performances all around this week, with the exception of KWINS. I'm feeling less confident in my prediction of Boyfriend winning it all now. I agree that their last few performances haven't been as good as their first few. I also agree with the person who mentioned that the taller kid (can't remember their names, sorry) has improved while the other has remained pretty close to where he started. The taller one has even surpassed the short one in rapping, IMO. They got lucky this week, but they got valuable experience on the big stage. I hope they can put it together and recapture some of their earlier magic for their Top 4 performance.

Shannon, as always, is a wild card. She'll either be boring or crush it. I think only one GG makes the Final because my gut tells me that either Shannon or BF will have a great performance, and at this point it's more likely to be Shannon.

  6. Another episode saved by another killer performance by Boyfriend. Two reasons these kids are consistently great is 1) song selection, and 2) not trying to do more than they are capable of. I thought Sohee and Soomin were strong, as well, but not spectacular. The rest were disappointing to one degree or another.

    My predictions:

Top 4 are exactly the same as Ronnie:

    Boyfriend

    Go Ara/Hyerim

    Sohee/Soomin

    Shannon

    Top 2:

    Boyfriend

    Go Ara/Hyerim

    Winner:

    Boyfriend

Here's my reasoning: Like many here have already said, song selection is key at this point. Someone is gonna decide that they need to "show their versatility" and perform a song that doesn't play to their strengths (like Mazinger S performing "Hero"), and I don't think it's gonna be either Boyfriend or Go Ara/Hyerim. I honestly think that the boys' young age has become a strength in this respect, because no 11 year-old kid thinks about versatility, they think about doing what they're already good at. If they have a misstep, it'll be an honest mistake, and not because they put themselves in a position to fail. The same goes for Ara and Hyerim, but because it just seems like they smell blood in the water and know better than to mess around.

I can absolutely see Shannon pulling a "Hero," though, and Sohee/Soomin might try to over-reach. Both Shannon and Sohee/Soomin have the talent to put together a run of extraordinary performances and make the final, though. Eunjin is my dark horse.

  7. Shannon - this is the performance we've all been waiting for. Everyone knew she had this in her, and she finally delivered. My personal favorite of this episode. Haven't really seen JYP go full Al-Jarreau-face until this stage, lol.

Go Ara - She's the Dragon Slayer, consistently out-performing greater-hyped contestants with higher expectations. Her consistency to this point has been amazing, and her stages have been been among my favorite from this season so far.

Chrisha/Minjoo - They were good, but not great. There was a certain mojo or electricity missing, which sucks, because they're two of my favorites.

  8. So six of the ten 2nd chance contestants go through to Top 10; after watching the first six, we can pretty confidently eliminate Lee Sung Eun and Han Byeol, so really it's eight fighting for six spots. I feel a little better about Shannon's chances now.

Watching Lee Sung Eun crash-and-burn was wrenching. She was one of my favorites, because she has such a unique blend of raw musical ability and soul. But damn, that was tough to watch. She started out okay, then after the first little waiver, disintegrated completely. About half-way through, I just wanted it to be over already. I'm interested to see what the judges said to her tomorrow. Seems like she became overwhelmed by the moment, though.

I hope Ji Nee selected something more soulful for her 2nd chance performance. She was underwhelming.

  9. I agree with you, I was surprised when they say she will do the rematch, she's good, but she is lacking if we compare her to the others.

I hope she can find a good agency who can train her well, and she can be in an idol group later.

And I think Boyfriend (I hate this name) deserve to win. The others are good, but what this two boys are doing is incredible. They both can sing, dance and rap, and they write theirs lyrics themself for the rap part, and JYP say they even do some parts of the choreo. I'm glad they ask them to be a duet, they complete each other so well.

At this point, they are even better than a lot of idols.

YG want to find 3 others and do an idol group with them, but I think they are good enough to stay a duet and debut right away.

I also know they suit YG more than JYPE, but if they go to YG, I'm worried they will give them one song and then, lock them in the dongeon....

The thing I love about these two is how each of them have improved their weaknesses from one performance to the next. The main singer has gotten better at rap, and the rapper is singing much better now, too. They're pushing each other, probably without realizing it. It's YG's "one good friend" theory playing out in real time.

  10. I'm gonna be the jerk who says that Han Byeol should have been eliminated straight away. She's very talented -- especially as a dancer -- and will be ready to compete on this level in another four or five years. Right now, though, I can't help but use the qualifier "for her age" when praising her. In a battle of 9-12 year-olds, she would crush her competition (except for the Boyfriend duo -- more on them later), but she's so clearly out of her depth at this point that I feel like the judges are rewarding her as an incentive to keep working hard, and to continue to lobby her to sign with their company, lol. She's adorable as hell, and I think she has a great future in the business, but not for several years yet.

OTOH, the Boyfriend duo are legit. They've earned every win to this point, and they're a dangerous opponent for any remaining singer. I honestly think they can make top-4, and if someone else stumbles, who knows, maybe even the finals. Where Han Byeol feels like a little girl playing dress-up with her older sister's clothes when she performs, these boys look comfortable and make each song fit their age. They're naturals. They're awesome. I don't even like boy groups for the most part, and these kids hold my attention from beginning to end. I have no idea what their rap lyrics are, but both of them have amazing flow and rhythm. I know YG takes a lot of guff here -- a lot of it deserved -- but hope they sign with YG as a duo after the show is complete, because it's such a perfect fit. They could be huge in four or five years.

  11. I feel bad I'm probably the only one rooting for Hyerim around here. The way her and Garin managed to deliver two great performances while no one saw them coming or was even rooting for them too, judges included, makes me feel proud of them. It's a mess only Hyerim managed to pass, though she's my favorite one of the duo. They were kind of the dark horses of the past episodes, I suppose.

I felt horrible watching Ga Rin get cut. It seems like the producers set both her and Hye Rim up to fail, first by pitting them against Chrisha and  Soo Min -- assuming they'd be crushed by the powerful duo -- and then by making them the last trainees to perform in the Casting Audition -- assuming their killer performance was a fluke. Then they killed it again. Ga Rin's time on KPS probably earned her a spot with a good company, though, if she isn't already under contract.

  12. It hurts seeing YG harping on Soomin for not smiling, but I understand it. And as she has said that her company has criticized her for the same thing, it's something she needs to be aware of and work on. Smiling is part of the job description for a GG idol, so better to hear it honestly now before it blocks her chances at debuting. Even if she has to fake-it-til-she-makes-it, that's her hurdle to clear. Like everyone has said, she has all the talent and tools to be a GG lead. It would be a shame this one thing held her back. She's getting better, though. Her performance with Ara on "Bang" was her best so far.

  13. I get why the judges are more enamored with Chrisha than Minjoo. Chrisha has a high level of both singing and dancing talent, and she's only 17. Minjoo, being 22 already, has less room for improvement, and is still working her way back into shape. She's also a known quantity, whereas Chrisha is the shiny new object.

That being said, Minjoo is a total pro, and has clearly dedicated herself to the task at hand. She improves with every performance, and gets the most out of everyone she teams up with. The longer she survives, the more dangerous she will become.
