Pristine Pinky

Yeah, my opinion of Kahi fell when I saw that - and I'd been a longtime fan of hers.  (still a fan btw, just not googley eyed about it) 

 

When she did the round of "who wants to" it effectively disqualified Pinky from being center, and the reason for it was not that compelling either. 

 

"As soon as you turn around ... first impression ... " etc.  Sure, fine.  Then just say 'try it again,' but nooo swap the center... what the flying...

 

And the reason why the center swap was stupid is because of this:  Pinky started as an A rank trainee, and this performance was just after the re-evaluation where she retained her A rank... so her skills have already been verified, twice.   Added to that, her quality as a visual was already an overwhelming fact despite missing out on the initial pickme center position.  Sorry to the rest of the team, but they weren't even on the radar - in skill or otherwise.

 

The other issue is this: What's the point of Kahi giving out pointers when in the next breath she eliminated the chance for Pinky to use them?  As stated before, she was already an overwhelming A-rank trainee - so it's not even a case of her being moved because she's inadequate or reaching beyond her ability.  All Kahi did was slash at Pinky's confidence and ultimately humiliate the girl who ended up going center and messing up.

 

Everyone who saw that episode knew it was a mistake, and the performance results from the live audience even said it was a mistake - with pinky scoring the highest out of both teams despite her team losing and her being moved from center.

 

Maybe it's just editing but she was noticeably more harsh on Pinky compared to other trainees.  Whether it's because she holds her to a higher standard, or if she is overcompensating to try not to show favoritism (since Kahi is ex-pledis), (or maybe she was just being a bitch - cos she did have a minor spat with pledis)  either way, the center move was a really really stupid decision, and I rant about it every time I see it.

 

The unfortunate fallout from the center debacle was it ended up tainting the image I had of her for the rest of the series.  So when it was time for fullmoon performance, I wasn't a fan of Kahi's narrative of "her (Sohye's) performance would be the most beautiful because it's pure effort."

 

Don't get me wrong, Sohye practiced hard for the performance, but the way Kahi said it makes it seem like no other trainee worked nearly as hard - which is just not true.  Some have just started years earlier. 

 

The comparison I would make would be like asking who studied harder between the student that had studied diligently for 7-8 years and so was able to draw from their years of hard work and study effectively, compared to the student that never studied before and instead last-minute-crammed for the exam.

 

Pinky trained hard for 7-8 years before hand.  Is it wrong for her to have started earlier?  Are her 7-8 years in Pledis's dungeon not counted as effort?

 

Kahi had, in effect, just rubbished many of the other trainees' many years of blood sweat and tears with what was ultimately a thoughtless and specious comment.  And she should have known better, especially since the whole "years of effort and hardwork" thing were what she was known for when she was promoting in After-school.  Pinky showed up at Pledis right after Siyeon, and so there is no reason that Kahi would have forgotten the long years of training that Pinky endured, either.
