Was just in a conversation with some friends and none of us were Jihoon fans. But all of us were in agreement he's one of the most ideal idols (and we usually don't get to a consensus lol) It's given that he has the visuals and sufficient skills (not talented in a prodigy way but workable as a pop star) but what is fascinating to all of us is his magnetism. Even MNet editing (and they were unusually heavy handed about that this season - I just read a post at how some of the rank 90-something guys were visual + talent all rounders were but they were slept on) couldn't downplay his appeal. That makes him unusually different. In my time as an idol stan, only a few male idols had this kind of aura - in recent memory all I could recall are Takuya Kimura, Yamapi, Yamada Ryosuke, Akanishi Jin? Wherein you couldn't exactly pinpoint what makes people love them, unlike other idols wherein you could list out reasons why people like them or could trace down the origins of their appeal. Sure Jihoon winked...but so did a ton of other boys on the show, so it's certainly not that. As a matter of fact, a friend of mine hypothesized that the lack of storyline by MNet is actually helping him. This adds to his air of mystery so people become more intrigued. Plus Jihoon as an idol is quite unpredictable - even MNet seems confused on what kind of image to give him - cute? responsible? talented? competitive? And usually it is idols like this who last long - I believe this thing we can't exactly point out is what people like to refer to as the 'x factor'. While he is a visual, he doesn't really fit the ideal visual standards. He has skills but is far from the most talented guy on the show. Why do I feel this will make him last long? People like unpredictable celebrities. They continue to be curious of them. In Kim Yongguk's case, we saw how powerful curiosity can be if utilized well. The thing with Jihoon is people expect something and he does another. He is a bit eccentric which really adds spice to his identity. Not a Jihoon fan but my chat with friends was really fascinating I felt I had to share lmao (also non of us are actually Jihoon fans - a friend is a KangDan fan, two others are Ong fans, I'm a Park Sungwoo fan, another is a Haknyeon/Cube Chicks fan lol but for the first time we're in agreement lol)
