Sep 20, 2017 By: Adam Soybel The rise of Korean acts on the charts, specifically K-pop (or Korean pop) bands, continues to fascinate the American audience, where U.S. airplay and larger media appearances for these kinds of artists is extremely limited. One of the names driving those bigger and better results is Big Hit’s BTS, a seven-member band formed in the capital of South Korea, Seoul. Last year, their album Wings stormed the top 30 on the Billboard 200 list, the highest-charting K-pop title to date. However, it’s their latest release, an EP titled Love Yourself: 承 'Her', that’s really exploding out of the gate. By Monday afternoon, the day it became available, eight of the nine tracks from the set (minus a skit of less than two minutes in length) were charting in the top 100 on iTunes, led by “DNA†(#4), opener “Serendipity†(#24) and “Best Of Me†(#37). By comparison, just one cut from their 2016 album was in the lower rungs of the top 100 upon its October release. At Spotify, seven of the nine songs have over a million plays to date, also led by “DNA†(2.06 million, #44 on the Global Top 50) and “Best†(1.43 million). BTS may really stand for Beyond The Scene, but we'd like to think that Boasting Those Sales/Streams could be a good new identity for them as well. K-Pop fans really underestimate the power of a fandom that doubled in number...literally. they put so much emphasis in the Asian fandom they forget that you get almost the same amount of people if Europe, North America and Latin America combines. Also BTS is also pretty big in Asia. Expect the number to go higher too, places like Aladin (where fans buy cds for fansign) have been out of stock since yesterday. They are drawing these numbers with a lot of stores running out of stock. imagine once all sources get restocked. We are also not counting the eventual Amazon and Best Buy distribution that will happen in October, and I am sure a lot of K-Pop fans would grab the chance to buy this album even if they arent ARMY only because buying a Kpop CD off the shelf is so rare in the States. TBH this is why I love Billboard 200 charting - only up to 5 albums will be counted and bulk buying will never fly. it gives a more thorough view on how sales actually are. Also if you see it, just look at the first day view numbers of DNA even with the freezes of Youtube. it was double the first day views of Spring Day/Not Today which supports the fact fandom doubled over these past few months,

Was reading Jeff's article on his interview with Rapmon and we know he loves to throw in hints here and there about charting. Suffice to say, it seems he implied the album is set to make a good BB200 charting BUT unfortunately - didn't quite make it to the Hot100. He probably would have teased if it's inching its way to the Hot100 but I feel we should be mentally prepared that it doesn't and just try harder next time.

Seriously tbh once BTS gets more global validation, Korea will follow. The honest thing is...Koreans are pretty unaware how big they truly are. I've said this time and again, and unless they see them attending or performing alongside people like Bieber or Swift, they will think it's all mediaplay.

Isn't it common knowledge? I remember this being mentioned somewhere a few weeks back. No one has the power to really help BTS in Billboard but US ARMYs.

Understanding the lyrics changes the whole experience tbh. My Korean friends who don't care for idols thought it was a very solid album!

Yeah, you guys better enjoy the party vibe of this album because if the highlight reel of the next mini is to be understood, it's gonna be a dark, emo album about the pitfalls/destructive love. Her is more about the deceptive bright facade of love, while the next one is more about the consequences of such love. The theme of the next album is right Suga's style and alley so I'm hoping he gets a lot of writing credits.

TBH DNA actually got better reviews than Fire when it dropped I wasn't a fan then but I was already on OH when it dropped and people dissed the shit out of that song as if it was the worse abomination to ever happen in music. Look where it is now. A fucking legendary song. If BTS slays the live perf of DNA and does the choreo smoothly...this will be a whole new level. The MV didn't give the choreo justice tbh.

Alright here we go. I kinda cancelled myself from OH in general yesterday because I was damn pissed off when the album got leaked and spread. I was hyping myself up for my first comeback as a fan of BTS to listen to the whole album in absolute HQ goodness the moment it drops but some people just gotta ruin it for others. I have a very trusted tlist on Twitter (no leaks made an appearance in my timeline) so I decided I would just linger there. I also wanted to let at least 12 hours pass before I put out my thoughts about the comeback because I heavily distrust my first views/listen skills (I disliked Serendipity and BST at first when both dropped...would you believe how shit my taste can be) In the span that I've become an ARMY this past few months, I have converted two of my other friends (former workmates) into ARMYs so we bought pizza, drinks, chips and cake and had a comeback party as we waited for the MV to drop last night.Right now, I live in New Zealand so it was 9pm our time. We had a countdown going and spazzing lmao. We even recorded our reactions for memories (lmao NOT gonna post it on Youtube) it was fun. But anyway, now that 12 hours have passed and I have listened to the album multiple times already, I just wanted to share my thoughts.
