  1. the boys seem free....kma is on the 28th...I hope they attend, having so many nominations is already impressive and even if they don't win, mixing & interacting with other artists (that aren't mainstream) is hugely rewarding!

    ย

    ย

me too. I hope they attend, Being there is an honorย

Also that will trigger gaon as wellย

KMA has no awards show as they've mentioned they didn't have sufficient funding for one.

    ย

Winners will be announced through a livestream, but no awards show.ย

  2. I don't really see the problem if he wasn't lying and really did become an official trainee for only two months.

    ย

    ย

Ong went around in P101 saying he was a 10 months trainee while in actual fact he was signed to another company before and had spent 10 years there. And no one gave him flack for that either

    ย

    ย

    ย

Except Ong never pretended he was a mediocre singer/dancer

  3. To every user here who allowed me to embrace my inner ARMY last year (those who were teasing me to fall down the hole, chanting "one of us! one of us!") thank you so much. I'm going through a terrible time in my life right now & BTS' music is really helping me hold on for dear life. I wouldn't have gone into their B-sides had I not become a full blown ARMY & if not for that, I won't be listening to these songs right now that's helping me survive.

    ย

    Thank you so much.

  4. Hmm I'm not sure, I'm completely unfamiliar with Twice's endorsement deal. Based on the article I read, it sounds like they'll be promoting KB's Liiv digital platform, so it's geared towards the more tech-savvy/youthful crowd. I think that's the service ioi also endorsed (not 100% sure...)

    ย

Edit: I see ioi in this article about Liiv:ย http://interbrand.com/work/a-friendly-face-for-korean-fintech/

    ย

Liiv was also endorsed by Yoo Inna & Lee Dongwook when they were fresh from the success of Goblin

  5. ha i was actually just reading it and the parallels are kind of crazy

    ย

they were interviewed right after performing at the AMAs for the first time, almost exactly 2 years ago, went to the Corden show the same week and then this passage:

    ย

Made me think about the boys skipping out on the AMAs after party (I really still hope they didn't skip it, even though they claim they did)

    ย

anyway, that was the most interesting part of the interview, other than how completely opposite they are from BTS. If people in the industry like you, they'll help your career - which is kind of what we're seeing with BTS right now, who have obviously impressed some higher-ups. Now we'll just have to see where it goes in 2018

    ย

    ย

I think it's actually great - the boys are able to charm people without going to the after parties. They don't need to because people are naturally drawn to their good nature even without them having to do traditional industry methods - just look at their Westwood One blitz. Most of those DJs who interviewed them ended up playing DNA the following week & really liked the boys notwithstanding the language barrier.ย

    ย

They didn't need to do the regular social tetes a tetes because their work ethic and kindness were enough for people to see even without them trying to impress.

    ย

    ย

    ย

It's worth noting that the AMAs staff gave the boys an ovation after their performance. That just goes to show the boys were endeared to them. They didn't even have to do anything, but just be themselves.ย

    ย

There's just something about BTS that's so likeable, heck even haters always say they hate ARMY but not BTS.

  6. Btw, does anyone have any idea if a Crystal Snow MV release may be in the works? It would make sense given that they're set to perform at MSta and the current success of it on the charts.

    ย

Are we sure it's Crystal Snow they're performing on M-Sta, do keep in mind BTS is releasing a triple A-side single so it's equal footing on whether they'll perform DNA/Mic Drop/Crystal Snow. I'm not sure if M-sta will allow them a medley (though a lot of mainstream, more popular Japanese acts certainly will) but color me wrong if I'm underestimating BTS again.

    ย

Since it's their M-Sta debut I won't be shocked if they would wanna showcase their dancing and doing a hiphop perf like Mic Drop will easily make them stand out in a sea of Johnny's boybands probably doing the same ballads sounding like Crystal Snow and funky pop dance songs like DNA.

  7. I've never been saying I think it's *all* fandom efforts -- it's just when I'm over here buying Mic Drop 20 times and know how hard fandom projects are still working behind the scenes right now...I just want to make sure no one gets excited thinking this is *all* muggles either <3.

    ย

    ย

    Certainly not.ย

    ย

The fandom is..and will continue...to be the major driving force behind BTS.

  8. I'm saving 5+ buys for next week and I know buying projects that continued for 4-5 weeks for DNA so I wouldn't say it's not fandom-driven after the first week, but like everyone is saying I do think it can't *just* be us thank god.ย  Ohhh I didn't see Corden say that -- I'm curious now!

    ย

Yeah, I know there's a gifting going on among the fanbases but that has been going on since we were stuck in #9 on iTunes. The 3-4 rank jump right after Kimmel aired isn't a coincidence I think.

    ย

Corden says it around the 0:20 mark

  9. I don't think all of that is just fandom effort.

    ย

    ย

Most of the fans I know are done with purchasing. Those are muggles keeping them up there. Kimmel's target demo (18-49 year olds, a good mix of male/female) was a perfect fusion for the BTS appearance. Ellen's viewers are mostly middle aged women & the best way for BTS to get promo from Ellen would be the online videos. Ellen's audience makeup is the main reason which is why the appearance didn't impact their sales as drastically.

    ย

Imagine if they performed Mic Drop at Corden, that's exactly the BTS target demo. But if all goes well, even the DNA appearance might boost Mic Drop.ย

    ย

I was wondering though, what did Corden mean by "over the next few weeks" about BTS?

  10. Mic Drop remix was literally released Friday... How can you say that the public won't like it yet ? They are getting radio promoted as we speak and REALLY REALLY REALLY EARLY by the way... No act except big ones gets added by radio so fast! They are doing good in a country radioheavy for a not so well known act by the public...ย

It's the sales thread, we are getting good news after good news why getting negative on hypothetical situations with their future music ?

Also how can you say that they aren't organically going up the charts when the song has not charted yet ?ย ilikeitplz.png

I'd much rather have BTS release song they are proud of and like than song for the sake of charting on the Hot 100 but what do I know ?

    _____________

    ย

Anyway I am happy the boys got added on all these radioย laugh.pngย laugh.pngย  !

    ย

    ย

I never said it wasn't doing well. I said Mic Drop is actually doing really well, but I was talking more from a song sales perspective (though now is really an age of streaming). The Ellen guesting didn't really boost MDR on iTunes (which is what usually happens for TV appearances of songs) but it could also be her show's demographics. But no impulse purchasing the single probably happened.

    ย

But despite this, MDR has outperformed people's expectations already especially for a Kpop song and it's poised to chart well with all these results. I'm talking about a more forward future when time comes where they could have a song that no longer needs to be pushed by simply the fandoms.

    ย

It's still incubation period for newer fans. They're most likely still doing research about the boys right now and slowly getting into them. We don't really see the outcome of that 1-2 months from now when they join the purchasing merch.

    ย

  11. The thing is the recent BTS releases are either too bright/funky (DNA) or too hard (Mic Drop). I'm happy for the current exposure they're getting & the boys are certainly growing. But if we were to use a normal US standard (what they're doing is amazing from a Kpop perspective) the main reason why they aren't organically going up the charts is because they have yet to release a public-friendly bop. You don't crack those playlists and the Hot 100 top 20 unless your song sticks to the general public, regardless if it's a good or bad song. Hit songs aren't necessarily mark of quality, rather, it's a mark that the song recall is high.ย

    ย

In Kpop a lot of things are extremely visual. Namjoon has said in an interview that they visualize things when writing title tracks. This could be a good reason why it's mostly the B-sides that resonates with the international fandom & certain songs only gain favor when we see it performed with choreo.ย

    ย

But the US is pretty radioheavy and the MV scene is no longer as big in the US as it once was. Many artists just do it for the sake of doing one. BTS being a performance group is pretty heavy on the visuals. So this just means for the next releases they do, they need to sort of merge their methodology. Do a song that's easily leaves a mark audio-wise without compromising the performance factor. If there's an act who could pull this off without compromising quality, it would be BTS considering how versatile they are with genres and concepts they can pull off.
