  1. being up there with the veterans/global superstars, newjeans are really something else
  2. I read the book and it's such a moving, heartwarming, wholesome story that also sends an important message to young people of this generation. I'm really excited about the adaptation and glad to know that others are too
  3. Vocal queen is back and delivers effortless singing again, I'm so excited for the release 11.11!
  4. News reports say that NewJeans are making a comeback in early December Source: https://n.news.naver.com/entertain/now/article/144/0000843228 ADOR later clarified that they have yet to finalize the schedule, so early December is not confirmed. Source: https://n.news.naver.com/entertain/article/311/0001513803 ANTICIPATE!!
  5. These are longer cuts of the NewJeans girls (Hanni = black hair, and Danielle = space buns) singing ITNW. I know it's autotuned but any thoughts on their vocals in the range showcased here? The D5s?
  6. In less than a minute, they manage to be both toxic by telling young girls to basically starve to be underweight AND tone deaf by putting this content out to the whole world to see. Also, apparently, Sakura's response to the staff's criticisms was mistranslated in the video.
  7. (starting at 6:30) "Ah..ㅜㅜ Everyoen's already so skinny, meanwhile the company is telling them to manage themselves and lose more weight..." Kim Hyung Eun (Lead Artist Management): Those of you who've debuted would know. How important managing yourself is when artists promote. I don't htink you were at 100%. As a company, we will do our best to give you all the means. But in the end, self-management is up to you. I need you to take time to think about how important this is and for you to strictly manage yourselves. original post: here 1. But they're already skin and bones... And they all look the same right now...? 2. I felt so bad when Sakura started crying.. 3. Don't they rather need to gain more weight? Just watch their stageㅜ 4. They weren't 100%... They were 200%... They just seem to want to say anything when they're shooting something...? 5. Wow this was freaking rude and toxic 6. Just how are they supposed to lose more? 7. I watched the documentary too and I was wondering whether it was actually necessary for them to put that scene in? It's not like this was needed and it felt cheap 8. Those words aside, did they feel so proud about what they've done that they included this in the scenes? 9. Saying stuff like that when they're in front of all these men is f*cking low 10. It feels like this issue is becoming more severe lately. If you're not only bones, you'll get hated on. I'm sure the company knows this, that's why they reacted like that. Of course, I don't think that it's the right thing to do...
  8. Bad taste to be writing a lengthy explanation that, like some others have pointed out, sounds like a petty and defensive argument of stan twitter (the whataboutism was the cherry on top for real). ADOR is clearly trying to dodge the responsibility for releasing the song and causing this whole situation, perhaps with an acknowledgement of its "double meaning" so to say. However, if you read their text with an open mind, they do make a lot of fair points. No company is stupid enough to be intentionally putting their group in a controversy just to appeal to whatever messed up audience of grown adults chasing after the girls. You need to see them as a company with interests in maximizing the fanbase and profits first, not a "cult" of p*dos doing this without profits in mind. Makes no sense. They are pathetic problem dodger, but not pushing for a blatantly malicious agenda. I echo a lot of what the fans, non-fans, and listeners of NewJeans think: that the girls should never have to deal with (1) songs with sexual innuendos and (2) a boss with some highly questionable interests. I also think a portion of the critics need to get off their high horse and reflect on the point of dragging this out though. ADOR is clearly not budging, and you need to realistically think about what you can achieve by continuing to spotlight the problems with Cookie. You won't get the company to apologize, won't get the song removed, but there is a chance that you'll only get more of the wrong kind of audience to start having interests in NewJeans. That'd be the worst. The girls appear to be doing fine with their other title tracks and enjoying their debut promotion. Ruining that with ceaseless, single-minded critique makes you a hater or a person only interested in coming across as morally superior, not someone with genuine concern. Let me get hate for saying this lol
  9. have gradually gained popularity among international fans yet have simultaneously cooled down in terms of popularity in Korea (compared to the 2016-2018 period)? I may be wrong but from my observations, early in their career Twice's concept was sometimes dismissed by i-fans for being overly cutesy and not "girl crush" enough (lmao). Then when Twice consistently stuck with their concept while a flood of "girl crush" groups saturated the industry, i-fans' appreciation for Twice slowly grew (because their music is hella good duh, and I suppose also because of the gradual maturity of their concept). The turnout at their North American tour clearly proved that they could easily be among the top 5 internationally popular kpop acts. Recently new kpop groups as well as some 2nd/3rd gen comebacks are doing incredibly well, and knetz love to point out that Twice's numbers have been going down in the latest few releases (Between 1&2 came out about 12 hours ago and already Twice got dismissed for having a poor chart "entry" lol can people be any more petty?) Even then, I don't think anyone can deny that they are not as popular in the SK market as during 2016-18. I don't care at all about comparing the numbers and metrics and whatnot but it just occurred to me that Twice are experiencing a shift in popularity between two different kpop markets/fanbases. And for the last time: they are in fact doing way better than whatever narrative the antis are trying to push. They're not "over" even if supposedly their "peak" in SK has passed. I love their new EP and am really proud of them for being consistent with their music quality + love for their fans. It's also just a grand time to be a girl group stan because heck yeah I'm here for all the gg success.
  10. I had a mini Spice Girls throwback moment today and as I read up stuff about them I saw this segment on their Wikipedia page: With NewJeans and Le Sserafim (as two examples) not having official lead/main vocals positions and whatnot (so far), do you think this may be part of the rationale for the decision with the groups? Do you think this may carry over to future debuts? Does this trend only work for small-sized groups? Do you personally like groups that don't necessarily have stand-out talents and music that's arranged in a way that gives every member equal chances to shine?
  11. I'm here for the memes (there are 5+ more of this kind of vid on youtube) and this iconic moment of BTOB Sungjae making a whole shrine of Apink Namjoo who was asleep (also I love your signature OP hahahahahaha)
  12. Well I'm not saying the girls are hypocrites if they sing about self-confidence but not have it. Honestly I'd preach self-confidence every day too even if I don't feel 100% comfortable in my own skin. The point is that I thought at least some of this message would have rubbed off on the girls, or that there should be more efforts from the management to help them deal with any self-esteem issues. Even if JYPE as a corporation doesn't care all that much for the idols' self-image and mental health, at least they would sell a more convincing message if they put in the efforts to address these young people's desire to keep enhancing their looks. Maybe that's too much to ask? Anyways there isn't anything personal in this kind of discussion. ITZY are not in the wrong. If anything I'm just concerned about the implications of all these behaviors and mindsets in the industry which affect both the idols and the fans.
  13. That's an interesting and very viable take on this. And it's ironic because her wanting the validation as the prettiest is very much the antithesis to the whole concept of ITZY about being true to who you are and ignoring society's perception of you. Funnily enough pannchoa just translated a theqoo discussion on why Korea is the country where cosmetic surgeries are so rampant, and they mention severe lookism in the country and the need to always compare and rank people's looks.
  14. Another Oscar to add to my list of top tier b-sides, the other being SNSD's I'd totally dance to this chorus in a club tbh
  15. I think she is also changing the trajectory of a whole new generation of idol groups. This debut has so many surprising and even groundbreaking features that I think the whole industry is kind of shaken. And the audience are loving it. It takes a lot of talents (and probably great reputations) to pull this sort of thing off. And though to some people this seems like a mere marketing gimmick but I genuinely enjoy the artistry that comes with NewJeans. I love the quality of music and the creativity embedded in every aspect of this project. And of course the girls seem lovely, though we haven't truly gotten to know them yet. Can't wait!
  16. I have a feeling that Yuna has very deep insecurities and even an inferiority complex I've been following ITZY since their debut and Ryujin & Yuna are my faves. I especially liked how confident and "tomboyish" they both seemed from the start. I remember seeing predebut photos of Yuna playing sports and being quite athletic too so I was very impressed by her image. Now she wears blatant hip pads like these, and posts SNS photos that are probably heavily photoshopped to make her figure look a certain way. While these practices (self-editing photos on SNS and wearing hip pads) are ubiquitous in Kpop, I have a feeling that Yuna tends to rely on these more than necessary, especially considering her reputation as the visual of her team and as one of the "it" girls of 4th gen. For example, hip pads aren't used by any of the other ITZY members, which makes me think it's more of a personal choice from Yuna rather than the styling team's decision. Yuna already has a slim and athletic built, so it boggles my mind why she needs to photoshop her body to get such an exaggerated effect. And one other thing I noticed quite a while ago, back in 2020 when Yuna joined the special performance with Wonyoung, Shuhua and Arin. All the girls on that stage were wearing shoes to make their height look somewhat equal (Wonyoung being really tall was wearing kitten heels while Shuhua and Arin were wearing higher heels). For some reason Yuna was wearing the highest heels although she was roughly as tall as Wonyoung. It made the whole team look off balance. This was around the time people started comparing Yuna and Wonyoung a lot, so I wondered whether this ever got to Yuna and prompted her (or her stylist’s) decision to make her stand out in the performance. This is probably a very poor conjecture, so I’ll just leave it at that. And I’m sorry if this observation is uncalled for; it was just the incident that made me notice Yuna’s potential inferiority complex. Tbh I think that Yuna has come under enough pressure as an idol and the fans hyping her up (specifically her physical appearance) only makes it worse. Sure she is beautiful, but she is also a charismatic performer and a very talented idol. Obsessing over certain features of her face/figure and, even worse, comparing her to other idols are both so toxic and damaging to Yuna’s self image (and this applies to everyone else in the industry). I also hate how all these idols employ things like hip pads and crazy diets and cosmetic procedures but then go around conveying a message that everything about them is supposedly “natural” (not inherently their fault, just the fault of this industry); and of course young naive fans will probably take their words for it and feel even worse about themselves. It’s a chain of collapsing dominos and no one bothers to stop it. So yeah, that’s just my two cents. What do folks think?
  17. Hanni (she has a lot of quirky childhood pics + she used to be a directioner lol) source/credit
  18. Hyein (she has A LOT of pre debut contents and has already appeared in public) source 1 source 2 source 3
  19. Minji (source 1) (source 2) // Danielle (source)
  20. IF (big if) this were the case, Hybe's decisions and behaviors are making it a lot worse for Kim Garam and for the company. This might get whatever connection she has with higher management (be it family or else) exposed because people will ask why and begin digging. If they were smart about helping her float out of this unscathed (which is unlikely at this point) they could just let her leave the group then later promote her some other way – if they could. I don't condone what she is alleged to have done nor do I want to defend her, but I just want people to act with reason and this applies to every party involved as well as the media/public. This situation is so unsettling and I hope the media is not going to milk it by speculating scenarios that may permanently damage KGR, in ways that are potentially even worse than the allegations this girl has garnered for herself so far. Edit: Actually, I haven't considered the possibility that exposing this kind of connection might be a good thing - but it should be done for the victims (including KGR if she were involved in some weird romantic link) and the idol industry overall, not for the thirst for gossip of the public.
  21. I suggest ways to make the trip more fun and enjoyable, in the most discreet way possible. Probably benefits both of us. It's fun to make the best of the situation too.
  22. Prior to her debut Yuna seemed to be quite athletic and there were several photos of her being on sports teams. She has always be on the lean side, though recently she has made deadlines for her "tiny waist" which seems to be an even bigger trend in Kpop now than before (thanks to the standard for hourglass figure set by the Kardashians). Young female idols now appear to take this as a new impossible ideal for their looks (some have speculated that Wonyoung for example tries to defy her apple shape body and lose weight to slim down her waist in particular, but that's just some opinions so far).
  23. bypannchoaApril 26, 2022 I bet the Proana kids will love to see this All the QRTs are talking about feeling bad for her This might look edited, but it's even more severe in videos. Even when she's standing still, you can't see anything but bones Seriously isn't being an idol such an odd job? I can't believe people get inspired when they see stuff like that... Is Yuna really healthy..? post response: [+186][-28] original post: here 1. [+76, -4] Is there a need for the company to make them look this skinny? When you look at the video, they look even skinnier. Please make them eat and make them diet in a healthy way. They even have a manager, what are they doing? 2. [+56, -5] ;;;;; 3. [+51, -5] Isn't that screencap purposefully making her ribs stand out? 4. [+39, -3] Yuna seriously eats even better than me, there's no need in worrying about her "I'm eating, unnie too!" 5. [+35, -35] She's healthily skinny, she only looks like only ribs because of the lighting 6. [+34, -5] This is what she ate right before that fanmeeting... That's just how her body looks like, why do we need to pity her? - ㅎㅎㅎ *pic* I'll gain strength eating this! Unnie I love you 7. [+33, -4] You guys are bullsh*tting about looking too skinny and bullsh*tting about looking too fat, just how are they supposed to live according to your standards? 8. [+31, -11] I'm sorry for using this kind of expression, but she looks gross; 9. [+24, -8] I don't care if her body naturally shows a lot of ribs, this is indeed severeㅠ 10. [+23, -7] Honestly it's so gross...
  24. The official photos are too photoshopped and make her nose look quite different. Also others pointed out that her smiling face vs. neutral expression can give a different nostril shape. I went back to see her intro video and the recent interview and her nose looks way less edited and more similar to her predebut pics. She has a very cute smile and somehow reminds me of both Dahyun and Joy. I think she looks more charismatic and eye catching when not photoshopped to have super sharp features (her teaser photos make her look like Suzy or Jiho from OMG or Sihyeon from Everglow than Kazuha herself).
