  1. I don't know if anyone here watched The Vampire Diaries and remembers Phoebe Tonkin, but I'm subscribed to the Vogue youtube channel and I got this video in my recommendations and I was shocked by the thumbnail alone:

In motion her cheek fillers are really blatant but I think she did something to her lips. She looks very weird too.

ChoA looks so different to me. Her smile in the middle photo looks like it is painful for her to make.

    Some recent press photos.

I would have never believed you if you told me this was Choa. She looks like a Korean presenter whose name I forgot.

But I think Choa looked different from the moment she came back from her hiatus.

Oh! Yeah i see these a lot with Irene and i've never understood it. To me she clearly looks her age (when she isnt drowned in filters). She obviously looks really good, but i would absolutely be able to guess close to her age even if i didnt know. I guess its also because she is such iconic visual people automatically think she must look younger which is stupid once again

With Irene it's even funnier bc the lines around her mouth are pretty prominent, which is another sign of aging. She most definitely looks her age.

Honestly i have such huge gripe with HYBE nosejobs. (ofc there are good ones, but the bad ones are SO noticeable). While Yeonjuns nosejob isnt the best, it oddly dont look too weird on him so i dont mind it (his lips look very swollen in the left pic tho). But those ENhypen nose jobs were almost distracting. I think it was Heeseung? whose nose implant was the most obvious think in the world in his side profile. I think he removed it which im glad. I dont keep up with them so not sure how his nose is doing now.

Also Sakuras nosejob under Hybe was so unnecessarily. Honestly i think it was partly the reason she didnt blow up after Izone as much as Wonyoung did (even if both are in popular groups) because of the nosejob. Since visuals are so important in kpop and i think the new nose did 'reduce' some of her charm in her visuals that was beloved by many (biggest reason ofc was because WY became IT girl in korea, international fans followed). I see much more hype around Chaewon now eventhough Sakura was more popular in izone. I think Chaewons oozing charisma is part of it but i do wonder if Sakura's visuals aren't just clicking as well to new fans that werent izone fans? Im not fearnot so i dont know if its different in the core fandom, but as a casual i dont see people talk Sakura as much as in her izone days). But i do see lot of hype around Chaewon. Oh and im mostly talking about the western fandom since that is what i know.

imo Chaewon (bc of her bob and charisma) and Kazuha (bc of her visuals) have taken over Sakura's hype.

looking at the likes of taeyeon, wendy, and karina has made me hate and dread jaw shaves so much. they're def my top examples of jaw shaves gone wrong, bc whenever i see the lower part of their faces, they look very obviously disproportionate and unnatural, like there's something missing. the only person i can think of who actually looked natural with it is sejeong.

I would add Yuju to your list, you can tell something is missing when you look at her. On the other hand, I think Jessica's jaw shave suits her.

She's certainly pretty but if I were totally honest there are times when she looks a bit off. Especially her motuh area, imo her mouth now looks a bit too big for her face. Reminds me of Yunjin, whatever she did to her jaw is making her features look unbalanced.

ok I know I said Yunjin's features look unbalanced but I just saw a TikTok vid of her backstage at some event where she had little to no makeup and she looks fine, so I'm guessing what I said is bc of filters she uses or editing in general on her official photos.

i really love the shape of wonyoung and her sister da-ah's lips, its definitely something that runs in the family spacer.png

and i agree with what y'all have mentioned WY has done; chin/jaw, lips, nose eyes, botox. but seriously if i was wonyoung i would be in love how i look

her eyes no doubt, epicanthoplasty, possible lateral canthoplasty and eyelid surgery at most. and her jaw too - her jaw used to be a lot squarer and stronger-looking, but is now more egg shaped/v-shaped. apparently she's also had something done to her chin too, considering she got made fun of by knetz for having a jutting chin. cheek fillers too - her cheeks look really lumpy; doesn't match her extremely low weight either.

and, i really don't wanna say this, but it's possible she may have had botox too. i noticed her face is a bit stiff at times. i remember seeing her on radio star (that episode where she did that controversial split 😬) and i noticed her face seemed to be barely moving while talking.

She definitely gets Botox. Her face is pretty stiff, especially when she speaks. Really sad considering how young she is.

I thought it was funny how recently photos of her sister were revealed and she has the same chin Wonyoung used to have.

  8. I agree that it's probably weight gain, but it makes me sad seeing people's reaction to it. So many idols are practically underweight and, lbr male idols don't get scrutinized for their weight but that also means that their disordered weight talk also flies under the radar (see Jungkook), going to the military kind of helps them get to a healthy weight but I'm sure there's tons of pressure of losing that weight once you come back.

also i wonder if hiding in plain sight works with idols. like if hoshi is actually dating that person, but because they're posting about it, would it make the gp think it's actually not real because of that?.. idk i saw it in a movie before where two guys were dating but because they weren't hiding it, and directly said they're dating to the girls that asked, the girls didn't believe them still because to them, if they really were, then they wouldn't be so open about it

I think it's like how I mentioned in my previous comment, Korea is so heteronormative that you can get away with a lot unless you're basically acting like a stereotypical gay person. With Hoshi and LSH I can see netizens going "haha aren't they cute" or "look at them joking around" much like they did with Rose and Suzy's alleged lovestagram. But if it was Jo Kwon in Hoshi's place, it would be different.

Tbf that doesn't mean it's not the same thing with international fans. Like how RM gets away with a lot bc of the way he looks compared to Jimin or how people's view of Taehyung has changed since his infamous image change in 2020 or how Jungwoo is viewed differently than Jaehyun for example.

on top of that, a lot of facial filler-- i found a pic of her from 2019 D3KXnwKUIAAKOSL?format=jpg&name=large

She kinda looks like Seulgi now.

It's ironic how netizens used to say she looked like Ra Miran in the past but if anything she looks even more like her now. I feel bad for her.

Is this the "never as thin as people make them out to be" lips you're talking about?

I mean the way people talk about his upper lip is as if it's paper thin when it never was, even based on the photo you posted. But anyway, it could be lip fillers but I don't care that much to debate this lol.

yes i think most straight level headed armies have been so used to jikook that face jimin is almost nothing to them lol. i wonder as well if the jikook stans can go even more crazy with the hidden track and jk spoiling it on his weverse live lol. what is with the deal with the tae hate lately? i just saw something about antis reporting his ig account.....

oh ofc they went crazy lol even though I think it's pretty obvious the song isn't romantic at all. Most likely about armys, after all it does start at 6:13 in the album. But you know shippers, they don't care about logic.

Edit: he just confirmed on Suchwita that it's a fan song. But, again, shippers will say he's lying, just like they said Jungkook lied when he said the J tattoo on his finger is for his name.

i won't link to any forums or twt threads were people are being queerphobic because they don't need attention but this tweet gave me a good laugh like excuse me that is the LEGENDARY robert mapplethorpe you're talking about re: "gay pants"!

i've seen people here and there talking about "queer people projecting" re the analysis which tbh always rills me up because 1. it's dismissive and 2. these "theories" are often literal visual analysis of the text presented by the artist (as we can see in all the examples @fruitbtxt has dropped) so like???

i think it's a bit of a shame for people to reduce this work to simply "it's about a break-up he says she he's straight" or to dismiss what other people have read into a work a la queer theory, when there's a lot of complex emotions going on in "like crazy". if jimin said "this is explicitly about a break-up i went through" i'd just be like "ok gotcha" and still enjoy and celebrate the work because imho, good art gets your brain thinking and speculating. i think it's also a bit unfair to jimin to dismiss the wider things going on on FACE (like struggle with fame, drinking/escapism, coming to terms with who one is) to reduce to conversation to is he straight or genderqueer or nah (i mean this in relation to the wider conversation, obviously i know what the title of this thread is haha)

(i should say as well i think a lot of the performance elements of the promotion definitely imply a commentary on gender so like, i'm biased to that interpretation)

Yeah I think it's odd that people are reducing it to one or the other. Also some people take the whole "it's about a breakup" angle as if people are clamoring to make him straight but no one ever said it's a breakup with a girl...?

@pianoplayer22 @miwa201 i tend to shop around bts twt to get perspective and see what kind of discourse / crazy is out there but in doing this i expose myself to levels of homophobia i thankfully don't personally experience often irl. it makes me quite depressed at times tho so maybe i should have a curated stan account lol

Tbh I haven't seen much of straight armys getting mad at the analysis. Maybe it's a couple but they immediately get shut down. I've seen more taekook shippers hating on anyone even talking about Jimin being queer.

yes i follow pro lgtb armys on twt so im prolly missing all the fun delulu twts! if anybody knows what is happening in denial land do let me in on the tea LOL.

im surprised at hybe letting him send a pretty strong message out though? are they finally letting them have some say since it's "chapter 2"?

plus we had topless tae n jimin this week so......are they finally letting them be actual adults??

Well Korea is still a pretty heteronormative society. Hence the excessive skinship/fan service that passes without anyone caring while overseas it launches debates on sexualities or ships. Like I often see shippers say stuff like "so and so can't say they live together bc Koreans would get suspicious" or like in the recent Harry Styles concert taekook shippers were saying Taehyung and Jungkook couldn't act like they did at the Harry concert in LA bc they're in Korea. But Koreans wouldn't care about any of this lol.

I honestly think you could get away with anything up until saying "I'm gay" unless you're really in your face about your sexuality like Jo Kwon.

it's definitely noted but seeing how armys are struggling to come to terms with it on twt i'm keeping my mouth 🤐 for now

also laughing my ass off seeing them try to explain robert mapplethorpe to each other

jimin's so real for indirectly giving a queer history lesson to everyone

On the one hand you have straight armys who refuse to even think of the members being gay. On the other hand you have taekookers who act as if Jimin is the straightest guy ever (bc as we all know, if Jimin is somehow queer, that means jikook is real. That's totally how it works).

You'd think we wouldn't have to discuss this anymore after his Photobook was release but oh well.

I interpreted Namjoon's verse to be a little toxic on purpose, the whole song is a little on the unhinged side, and I don't think he's going to get into any trouble with his alt-indie / hiphop listener crowd.

I don't think there's any strategy involved?  RM may not do wild fanservice but he makes flirty little asides to members all the time. Gallantry. I think he was just teasing JK by imitating the fan commenters, who were asking to date for 5 minutes etc.  I thought it was very sweet that BTS members were acting concerned by showing up for / low-key monitoring JK's lives, maybe he wanted to make him laugh.

I agree. He makes these kind of comments all the time.

Genuinely the only member who doesn't do this kind of outright fanservice or flirty stuff is Hoseok. He's the one who reins in the fanservice by others as well (this was evident when they were pushing Sope back in the day).

Wasn't this proven to be fake? And idk but he thought she was called another name.

If anything, he was already different in 2019 after BOOM's promotions, so long before the scandal (though it probably didn't help). But he still did skinship with members and even seemed to get better in the spring/summer of 2020.

He really started looking closed-off starting from Deja Vu's track video behind and stopped posting on Bubble around the same time (nothing from august to october). That was the moment.

    Spoiler

lol I wouldn't take that video seriously. They wore the same ring, and that IG story she posted was def about his Netflix account, his name is quite unique so there's no way it wasn't him. His fans act as if it was edited but it wasn't.

I was briefly into Dream when Ridin got released and he def changed after the scandal, the whole bubble messages thing was after the scandal. He quieted down and stopped sending long messages. I can't speak to his attitude after that bc I stopped being a fan but there was a definite shift after his scandal, especially since fans harassed him pretty openly.

There were lots of rational takes back then and few of them were widely shared. Personally I did find that there was interesting stuff going on with Jongkey, Yunjae and Verkwan, the 3 that were usually considered as likely. They were convincing for most people because whatever was actually happening, they brought out their dirt in public. They were indeed popular ships but they also often made passive aggressive comments, weird stories telling that felt accusating, blatant ignoring... Just to be fine again (or not). Whether one of them felt led on, or someone's heart was broken, or they had a toxic friendship, I don't know. But there were definitely unusual things going on with these 3 that ultimately caught people's eyes.

I never really bought Eunhae though. It did just feel like a popular ship. I did think there was stuff going on between some other idols (whether one sided or not) but they weren't especially popular takes and just like today, they brought up quite the debates. I don’t personally feel like anything has changed. Users are just more careful but if you read between the lines, you can often sense a shipping perspective. I don't mind personally. I mean, we're talking about possibly gay/bi people living around men 24/7, stuff can be bound to happen at some point and if anything, their interactions with the same sex is an indicator of their sexuality anyway. People can decide for themselves if a take seems like wishful thinking or if it's interesting.

Shipping became a problem when rival shippers of a group started competing with each other (namely BTS). That's when this thread decide to condemn any speculating two idols together as "delusional shipping". It did spare us from those shippers, but also from interesting takes.

But well I originally came here to talk about NCT DREAM, so if anyone wants to discuss them:

      Hide contents

Mark: I used to think that he was weirdly defensive at times but I now think that it was because he was particularly conservative and grew out of it. Now he looks confident in his sexuality, flirts jokingly, shows affection towards members and partakes in fanservice, but he doesn't show any particularly romantic or sexual interest in men. He still looks uncomfortable when it goes too far. Probably straight.

Renjun: He's a tough case. He's quite soft-mannered with a bit of feminine energy, but he's been raised by like 7/8 noonas and his grandma so... that explains that. And he's quite strict with boundaries when it comes to fanservice. So I'm not that sure but I would lean towards straight.

Jeno: I would say he's straight even though he's softer than he looks. Idk what else to day, he just doesn't seem interested in men like that and not the kind to ever question his sexuality, simply because he is that confident in it.

Haechan: I used to think he might just like being over-the-top and the center of the attention, but no. Or more like, yes but in a gay way. His flamboyancy could be explained away when he was 16-18 but he's 22 now and he radiates more feminine energy and sassiness than ever and it never looks forced or comical. He seems able to emotionally detach from fanservice but he still shows attraction to some members at times. He has great tastes in handbags, loves his long legs the most and prefers to be lean, not muscled. Idk I just think he's gay now.

Jaemin: I used to think that he was gay. In all of his ships, he was always the convincing factor. Imo he shows obvious attraction to men. Members used to call him weird for calling them oppa, sniffing them, being clingy and doing aegyo (all of that even off cameras). I also felt it from his interactions with fanboys. But he suddenly stopped being affectionate sometime in 2020 and I wonder if someone didn't question his sexuality to his face? If anything it became harder to tell now, he's much more reserved and careful. He's progressively coming back to where he was so I would lean towards gay, with possibly a hard time coming out?

Chenle: He feels pretty straight. Very family-oriented in a conventional way. But he used to be particularly no-homo-bro, adverse to aegyo and shipping (any form of fanservice) until he changed drastically, to the point of getting to Haechan and Jaemin's levels of flamboyancy at times. Now he flirts with Jaemin even though he still refuses to indulge in fan-idol relationship fanservice (idk I find him kind of interesting around Jaemin lately). So straight for now (he might have just grown out of toxic masculinity) but I'm watching him.

Jisung: Hard to say. He's shy and soft-hearted, cries and gets scared easily. The way he loves or admires his hyungs feel a bit crush-y at times, especially Jaemin at some point, then Haechan. I also find his relationship with Chenle interesting on his end (idk some stuff like his adamancy to get Chenle to call him hyung with aegyo even though he usually acts like he hates aegyo, or the way Chenle and Jeno both said that Jisung likes Chenle too much). But he's still openly adverse to aegyo and fanservice (maybe too much?). If he's gay, he's probably in denial.

    Spoiler

Jaemin became guarded and closed down in 2020 bc he got massive hate after a dating scandal he got into with his former co-star. A dating scandal that I actually find quite believable, but either way his attitude completely changed bc of that.

Fans usually like some unique features, especially when they're already familiar with the idols (like Nayeon's teeth) right? Those are the changes that I just don't understand. It's so sad that there is this one standard and everyone tries to fit in. The obsession with so called perfection. In the beginning of 4th gen everyone said that it's getting better, that there will be more diversity in terms of body types, skin color and features but it went into the opposite direction.

I think it's true that part of the problem is fans praising these "extremes". So many consider Karina the most beautiful 4th gen idol and were obsessed with Yuna's U go girl stage, that establishes unrealistic standards (as much as I don't blame those girls or fans individually! It's just part of the machine)

I think more fans are admitting now that their faves got something done? Like Enhypen stans last year. But this normalising has pros and cons as well. I don't want people to feel ashamed, but I don't think ps should be about following trends and everyone feeling pressured to get something done either. If that makes sense lol

For the life of me I don't understand when idols change things that they've been widely praised for. If you ask a random kpop fan what's Nayeon's defining feature they'll say her teeth. I seriously don't understand it.
