  1. Sometimes people see multiple versions as a way to promote bulk buying, especially if each version comes with different bonuses. While others see it as another way (sometimes smarter) of promotion.

As far as Avex goes they were known for the selling of music cards, a cheaper alternative to CDs, which helped to increase sales. People would buy the music cards but not download the music on them which cause Oricon to discontinue the counting of music cards into official sale numbers. You can read more about it on Arama. People named EXILE in the comments, but the comments are a mess.

Hi, fellow Ken Hirai fans. :)

But these days, almost all music acts in Japan releasing their album in more than one version, with different cover for each version and/or with different bonus for each store.

For me as a content buyer, that kind of marketing strategy is nothing dirty compare to music acts that releasing multiple versions with unfair distributed content, where each version not only has different cover and/or bonus, but also has different extra content, that attract people to buy more than 1 version to get all content.

For example, THE STILL LIFE have 2 versions with different cover and 4 types bonus, but for me, the marketing strategy of Japanese Singer & Ken's Bar III are dirtier, because of the different extra content in the Type A and B, that make me have to buy both type.

And for this EXILE album, I really don't think people would buy more than 1, even if he/she is a rich fan :

    Cover :

    Bonus :

    images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRvQiBcoj-zuHX64VI4ADP

If I'm a fan, I might buy the DVD type for the content, but for buying it in a hurry for the bonus? No, moreover to buy more than one copy.

    Compare to this album :

Cover : CD+DVD/Bluray and CD only

    images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRB2daGAlTcLUJxSFVOUcj

    7 designs bonus : Clear File/Postcard

    images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTyKUYLl88ut3fo9x6v0mD

+ Benefit : serial number inclusion for LIVE TOUR 2016 "YELLOW VOYAGE" ticket pre acceptance lottery.

If I'm a fan, I might buy in a hurry for the content and lottery benefit, and I might confuse in choosing the bonus. But to buy more than one copy to get more bonus? No.

Moreover compare to this album (the marketing strategy kinda crazy for an album ):

Normal edition : CD+DVD and CD only

    images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTC9XwHVFyGK7BwvXH3ZMb

    Bonus : 1 of 40 designs stickers

    images?q=tbn:ANd9GcT0BNfPDd-HoTmE8juSnc4

Limited Edition Special Set : 11 versions

1 album + 1 of 11 live performance CD that won't be sold in the future (people can order up to 11 versions)

    Each version have different cover.

    Bonus : TIMELESS CALENDAR

Deluxe Package : Nameless World + Timeless World albums

500/1000 copies will be sold to live tour visitors at the venue of each performance with benefit : Lottery for goods or handshake&photoshoot meeting.

All cover and bonus are worth to look, so for the detail : https://emtg.jp/feature/kobukuro_album2016/#point2

If I'm a fan, I might try my best to buy all the 11 special sets, since each of it have different live performance.

But if I'm super rich, I might end up buy sooo many copy, since all the stickers look so cute, and all the lottery prizes are worth to try to get.

So back to the topic, both Utada and EXILE album look normal for me, nothing dirty. :)

  2. Looking at how well they trained at the gym, I suddenly thought that they can compete and probably beat the like of Makoto Nagano in Ninja Warrior. If they were to somehow participate, I believe that Naoki, Mandy and Alan could very well be the toughest competitor.

Has anyone ever thought of this?

Makoto Nagano is unbeatable. But I think it'll be interesting if Ninja Warriors have special edition for all EXILE related acts or other Japanese entertainer, that have big muscle.

Naoto have tried once, but he failed. Nervous maybe?

  3. But what does this have to do with Japan?

Is it hard to see the link?

If Giant Swing, LL Brothers, Michico, Zoo, and other Japanese 90's r&b/urban singer still active and still can dance today, they will also sing and dance in EDM songs.

T.Kura from Giant Swing, Takanori from LL Brothers, and Michico was made many EXILE/2JSB/3JSB's r&b/urban/edm songs. They work for EXILE company since 2000 (1JSB era).

They only work with acts that focus on r&B, like themselves, EXILE related acts, Namie, CK, Ai, Kaname, Daichi Miura, Sowelu, Ken Hirai, etc. And they never work with any KPOP acts.

STY (and his company), who also made many EXILE/2JSB/3JSB's r&b/urban/edm/rock songs, starting his career as music producer with EXILE company. He work for EXILE company since 2005, then expanding to other acts, like Kumi, CK, Daichi M, then Jhonny's, KPOP, CPOP, etc.

Rather than EXILE HIRO, all of these music producer have bigger responsible in developing 3JSB sounds. These music producer choose to develop their music to EDM, just like many other music producers in the world, and nothing wrong with it.

And just like how Bieber, Jason Derulo, TAKE THAT, coldplay, and many other acts in the world, who follow EDM trend, shouldn't be considered as KPOP follower, then 3JSB, Namie, Daichi, and many other Japanese acts that follow EDM trend, shouldn't be considered as KPOP follower too.

  4. When r&b/urban singers do EDM these day, is it considered as KPOP follower?

Justin bieber who more r&b before, do edm today.

If backstreet boys, n'sync, destinys child, tlc, pussycatdolls, etc, still active today, i think they will also do edm songs.

Even TAKE THAT, 90's boyband, who more pop ballad before, have edm songs too.

And band, like coldplay, use edm element too in their music.

Time changing, as well as music trend. I think there's nothing wrong with singers who challenging themself in following trend.

Just take it if you like it, or leave it if you don't.
