so it's fair to say idol's image is solely there to deceive you when all others work personas remain to be what they are - adaptation to responsibility and compromise with the environment? you likened them to criminals which is.. yeah ok. that's crossing a line to immorality and possible personality disorder, let's not go there. yeah, it's odd. i would't think to use it myself in this context, and the more i thought about it it just seemed dehumanizing to me. like i get what people think when they say "it kinda fits". you touched on the perspective of a fan. k-pop industry was largely built on obsessive fandoms and as a result i think both fans&idols are closer to thinking that idol should be beholden rather than just grateful to a fandom. absolutely true that it's not healthy for fans because it encourages obsession and it's not healthy for idols cause they literally have to appease fans in certain matters. and that's the current environment in "manufactured" k-pop industry. personas are part of living breathing human beings though. ok, sure, they're fake~ for behaving in the way that keeps their career intact and for not being the "real them" in front of thousands of people.and being aware of that and not falling into obsession is our responsibility but people seem to have some sort of ptsd with their "they might be assholes and criminals for all we know" and thus it's ok to call them manufactured like they are some sort of vocaloids.
-
well that was the whole point - personas aren't inherently authentic. it's not about that. it's about degrees and levels. it's not a question of whether they lie and pretend to a certain degree. of course they do. but isn't it a mile too much to go and call any one person not drawn on a paper "manufactured". it's basically saying they have 0 sincerity when they act out in the world as an "idol"
-
help me out with the semantics here. yes, it's perfectly reasonable to call k-pop groups "manufactured" as they are mass-produced by companies=factories and in many aspects they are artificially designed to most suit the market. but the word doesn't seem to be applicable to the individuals, in this case idols? having a "role" to play (like the "cute one") and going through media-training doesn't make them a made-up character whose existence is limited to a photocard. public personalities are not that different from any other work personas, they are not even that much more commodified as we too basically have a monetary value attached to our name.

Armys upset after Dr. Phil calls BTS’ Jimin “manufactured”
sasha replied to Juche Bird's topic in Celebrity News & Gossip
well it's obvious what he is trying to say but nevertheless "manufactured" doesn't appear to be the most suitable word for that. i mean native/fluent speakers might correct me but i mean especially in somewhat psychological context and when you talk about a particular and well, very real person? -

BTS speculated to perform at the 2020 Grammys!
sasha replied to Wendii's topic in Celebrity News & Gossip
it's an achievement and great exposure but i'm hesitant to believe the rumors because of the timing. unless it's a very recent development seems like they would try and make it a cb stage? -
BTS COMEBACK FEBRUARY 21ST!!!!!!! (Update: BTS reaction!)
sasha replied to satoori's topic in Celebrity News & Gossip
they called it 7 it absolutely means 7 solos a la Wings. also FINALLY -
i enjoyed it, it was similar to his previous hostings but even less restrained. on one hand it is admirable to try and use your platform for good but on the other - they consistently failed and annoyed people for years now with that woke showmanship..
-
they're in the most unfavourable situation because they haven't had time to build credibility/popularity unrelated to the show before the scandal blew up. if it had happened couple years into their careers i could see them going on regardless but now one only can imagine all the troubles within the group, with the contracts&companies and with the public on top of that. honestly i don't know any of them but all the best for them, hope there is still a chance for success

BIG BANG and Epik High to perform at Coachella 2020
sasha replied to Gene_e's topic in Celebrity News & Gossip
yeah, that is what i said - there is no logic to be seen with YG&BP. and that was the point - company "family" is a brand, on average they are just friendly co-workers. -
BIG BANG and Epik High to perform at Coachella 2020
sasha replied to Gene_e's topic in Celebrity News & Gossip
yeah, seemed like it even for an outsider it's confusing what YG is doing with BP so i feel your pain. but well, BB weren't around for years and it didn't help BP much did it? i might be wrong but BB as a group and individually would have had their own problems with copyrights and shit were they to leave so idk. honestly in those company "families" somebody always gets mistreated in favour of those who has potential to return most for their investments, it's just there doesn't seem to be any logic with BP and YG -
happy for them. like people said the age gap isn't one worth worrying about. yes, she is young but he is not old by any means and has proven to be a nice guy throughout his long career. i hope it works out for them

BIG BANG and Epik High to perform at Coachella 2020
sasha replied to Gene_e's topic in Celebrity News & Gossip
are people being weirdly defensive over BB or did this thread get cleaned? anyway. this is unexpected news and it's a bit sad they didn't ditch YG but also perfectly understandable cause it is probably the best career move for them. i mean coachella did Blackpink solid so nice for them. also BP is truly the next 2ne1 huh -
she said biological sex exists and now far-left is mad? i don't know who this Maya is though edit: if anybody is interested here is the story https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-50858919 and here is Maya Forstater's official testimony https://medium.com/@MForstater/claimants-witness-statement-abe3e8073b41 personally i agree with everything she said in court up to the (59) but i don't care to go and sift through her personal feelings and twits. from judge's ruling i suspect the problem laid in the PC area. Rowling was kinda messy but i would agree with her on that one.

Someone is cancelled again, this time it's Katy Perry
sasha replied to MicrowavedTeaforYourSoul's topic in Random
artist on the stage addressed the audience present and the audience shouldn't have presumed it was a comment about them? i don't know what it was, an inside joke or just a joke she does often, buy it fell flat and made things awkward for the audience. seems like a simple misunderstanding. twt stans needed to chill and seems like they did pretty quickly -

Melon Responds To Chart Manipulation Allegations
sasha replied to justtree's topic in Celebrity News & Gossip
that is if they actually spared resources on detecting any sajaegi on their end. worst case they know and cover it, but more likely they just don't bother much -
it's not only you. i would also say he looks sad from time to time and he has his share of listless performances. many say it started during DNA, others say what they say. i don't think it's a reason for concern though as i agree that all of BTS became more relaxed and comfortable so it might be just that - he feels tired/sad/bored and doesn't put up a brave face. if something is not right he will or will not share his concerns himself, worries beyond that are fruitless
