Right. Warner Music Group seems to be the right mix of everything. They are the 3rd biggest recording label in the world. Subsidiary of Warner Bros, influential in a lot of ways. In Japan, WMG lack a Kpop girl group compared to Universal Music Group & Sony Music Entertainment. This time, they are gearing up for big things with TWICE.

I don't think Sony is bad, they did a good job for 2PM & GOT7 activities in Japan. It just happen so that Warner has no Kpop Girl Group under them, and they see a huge potential in TWICE. Hence they gave a very hard to resist offer to JYPE. Before TWICE even debut, we can already see how much Warner is willing to invest.

The Big 3 global player in music is Universal, Sony and Warner. Universal dabble on tourism, Sony more on gaming, Warner more on movies. TWICE has been doing the 9 girls 9 concepts for their M/V and I think it actually fits Warner a lot now that I think about it. I won't be surprise to see TWICE being cast in movie roles under Warner Bros in the near future.

I probably shouldn't be mentioning other artists here. However, did you guys hear BTS - Not Today? Not Not Today repeats a lot! Knock Knock Today collab? That's why I've been seeing twitter saying insider information (for both BTS & TWICE) that this comeback is gonna be lit. BTS did say their comeback will get public attention (perhaps due to an actual collab with TWICE) and not just with fandom.

Okay, you see. For this comeback, It was somewhat confirmed back in January. Then we got the bad graphic on TWICE homepage. It creates a bit of hype, people talk about the door, the message and what 1:9 means. However, the hype died because after the graphic replace the original homepage, the only thing that changes is the size of the door. Then they release information on Twitter about benefit A and benefit B without actually giving more information what A & B is. All of this is the lack of information that I am referring to. They could have put some effort to create pictures of benefit A and benefit B. I agree with you, teasers is just a small part of promotion. I am just under the impression that South Korea presidential election will dominate April/May and music promotion would ramp down. Hence pre-promotion is more important this time. There isn't a need to polarize things. There isn't a need to release pictures everyday like in TCL1. However, when the homepage changes, don't you think there should be some form of follow up? The graphic was there but nobody (from JYP) said anything. Then the door became bigger the next day, it doesn't mean anything except probably the intern slack on his work and make it too small. I am complaining so much in advance because there was a huge gap between releasing information and then disappearing all of a sudden.

SM gives 5% to their artists, it's not across the board probably, but the average is there. The figures was revealed during those court cases SM fought throughout the years. YG & JYP figures are an estimate only, the 50% profit split is achievable if certain expenses are shared. The fact that TWICE wait until the teaser release before ending Vlive. That's the giveaway. Yes, before TWICE debut, Warner already started creating hype. Yet JYPE isn't building any traction on their Japan hype or their comeback of sort. Koreans know TWICE, but TWICE doesn't actually have fandom of boygroup. Would this repackage do well if it's not promoted well? This is a fickle industry indeed, going by the Japan hype, and the comeback that doesn't seem like a comeback, who is to say that JYPE wouldn't send them away on tour/debut in Japan instead of promoting in South Korea. If JYPE did enough pre-promotion, then the hype would snowball. If JYPE falls flat and rely on their accumulated popularity to hype things up, it would pop eventually.

I didn't say JYPE force TWICE to do stuffs, but a figure of speech that TWICE kinda had to promote themselves this time. If they don't would words get out? ONCE will know about it, but what about casual listener? TWICE have a big public relevancy but JYPE isn't getting the words out efficiently this time. TWICE doing Vlive may actually get people talking because they did entertain us and create plenty of meme moments, and by extension, it can reach the public. Warner done more because they invested on that banner on a very high visibility location. They also manage to get the news talking, Yahoo & twitter trended TWICE - TT. Stealth marketing or not, at least it gets people talking. And that's before TWICE debut. Their homepage has already been set up. This was done before JYPE even do anything to promote TWICE this cycle. Hence I consider Warner Music Japan doing more than JYPE to promote TWICE. Not every comeback need to be grand, but this comeback seems very "nugu" at this point in time.

No, I don't think they're forced to do it. I would prefer to say they were perhaps recommended to do it themselves. They enjoy interacting with ONCE, but it should not be taken for granted for the label to take the easy way out. I mean, have you seen the graphic on their homepage? I didn't complain about it previously, but that is not exactly very pretty. I am pretty sure Chaeyoung herself would have a prettier drawings than the graphic. The entertainment business is indeed top heavy, be it Kpop, Mandopop, Cantopop, Bollywood, Hollywood. I believe recently there was a thread talking about the income inequality where the top 13% earn what the 87% earns or something along that line. Physical sales are profitable if you're top tier groups. Otherwise, they are simply business cards. Digital simply gets you more exposure.

Nope, it's 50% profit. Before they derive that profit, they must pay composer, distributor, packaging, etc. Whatever that's leftover would then be split. For Western artists, it's commonly 6% of the price tag that's leftover to pay to performing artists. That's why most don't consider album sales as profitable in the long run. You retain a bit more if you do compose the song and own copyrights, but TWICE don't this time.

I get where you're coming from. Most ONCE would support TWICE regardless. I do support TWICE, but album sales is one category that rewards TWICE the least. So I'd rather support them through their concerts this time. I am not forcing ONCE to boycott, merely expressing disappointment in JYPE (not TWICE) for this promotion cycle. There is a clear lack of communication from JYPE to inform fans about this comeback, and TWICE had to do their own promotion themselves. It should be part of the label's responsibility to properly market their artists. What I see is Warner Japan putting in more effort than JYPE despite TWICE being one of the core group that alleviate JYPE status. So I was kind of expecting JYPE to go all in on TWICE, but this is quite lackluster considering what JYPE were capable of in the past.

It was said to be a special edition. They call it repackage if there is very few new songs added to previous track list. It's too little new song to create an album, but agency refuse to market it as a single. Thus the term repackage album is commonly use. JYP uses the term, special album. An extension to TCL1. They could easily use the common term repackage album and it would be easily understood. So when they say it's a special album, I was under the impression it's something special. A combination of debut album, recent albums, collabs, etc... Not just 2 new songs + instrumental lump into a previous release and market it as special. Sure, JYP don't force fans to buy, but the way they're milking ONCE is so aggressive that it's basically at SM tier already. Just because JYP found a goldmine in TWICE, never experience the level of sales TWICE manage to get, doesn't mean it will continue on forever. JYP values rookie spirit / humility, hopefully they keep that to heart and not set TWICE up to fail and cast away.

Will support them with their concert in April, not sure about the album now. Hopefully there are better things installed behind those 2 doors.

See, TWICE just had a Christmas album 2 months ago. That's why when JYP release info last month about a special album, I am one of those who had my expectation up. There will be people who bought the Christmas album feeling ripped off because Christmas album is basically TCL1 with the same tracklist but ONCE support nonetheless. Then imagine a month later, those who bought Xmas album are told there is a special album with the same tracklist + 2 new songs. JYP isn't SM and shouldn't become SM. The way JYP is doing TWICE with no real communication with fans are basically what SM is notorious for. Ripping fans as much as possible. Edit: My main point is, if JYP didn't release a Xmas album but instead release this special album, I won't have any complaints. However, releasing a Xmas album in December, then release information about upcoming special album in January, then only to reveal it's a repackage.

That's why I appreciate the girls effort to communicate with ONCE despite not being allowed to reveal anything substantial. They literally spend 2 hours+ with us when they could just use those time to rest. It is the lack of communication from JYPE this time. They didn't communicate with ONCE properly and apparently TWICE and managers weren't that informed this time. Previously we do have timetable or at least hear official statements. Not a information thrown 1 month ago and homepage updated with just a picture but left with no information throughout. With the little hype JYPE put into this, I doubt they will promote very long. Probably do a week or 2 before sending TWICE to Japan. Regardless, I am kinda disappointed with the lack of communication this time round. We literally know about the comeback 1 month ago and it's only now that we know it's basically a repackage. I mean, TWICE is quite excited about their new comeback and their solo concert, but the backend support for them is severely lacking.

I think this time, the girls were trolled by JYPE. I mean, both Mina and Jungyeon were under the impression that the teaser is out. Mina thought it's out already, while Jungyeon thought it will be out now. It's like the marketing team this team weren't as good as their previous comeback. So much so that TWICE have to do the marketing for themselves through Vapp. And it's basically a repackage, not really a special album. Why is JYPE doing them so dirty this time? :(
