  1. Really, REALLY liking "Change UP"! I like how they mixed the retro melody with some newer elements. The build-up to the hook works fantastic and creates some great tension, right before the beat drop. It's incredibly addictive too! The other thing they managed to pull of really well, is how each of them was given equal lines and opportunity to shine. especially Woozi with his smooth singing, and Hoshi - with his surprisingly good ------ EVERYTHING, really. Aesthetic wise, this MV is A+++. Just like with the melody there is a chill retro vibe running through, with the smooth warm colours, the 80's car and some of the props used. It's a simple MV but it really enhances the song well, and adds that little extra something. I like how all three of them did bits of improvised choreo through out, and I was able to catch many of the "patent" 17 moves they do off-camera too. (the only veeery minor complaint would be that I really had to shake my head at some of the styling choices, like Hoshis hat, or some of Woozis unfortunate outfits, that made him look like a seven year old.)
  2. They put it up in their v-live themselves - so. But it's all right, if you can wait, I'm not forcing anyone. it's super good though.
  3. Really nice song! just my style, with the super chill melody and subdued bass-line. Hoshi's got a really nice voice in this one. He's a true allrounder, spitting fire, singing and dancing. Woozi really stole the spotlight in this one though ---- and boy deserves it too! Really loving the MV!!! Simple but on point, and with a warm, cozy colour-pallette. I especially liked the shots from above in the car. can't wait for the rest.
  4. It's really there. Can't wait for this week. SEVENTEEN is seriously stepping up their game.
  5. I remember my first ever job, and it really seems like too much to take at the time. You feel like throwing it all away the moment you get there, but trust me - it's like that for pretty much 99 percent of the people. And the best part about it ----- in two weeks, you will have forgotten all about it, I guarantee you that! Mark my words, a month from today you won't even be able to remember most of it because it will feel blurred together. I know this phrase is sorely over-used, and in most instances, it actually does more bad than good - but in your case it fits 100% - It GET'S BETTER. It really does. So hold your head up, and, as hard as it may seem, try to drop any work-related thoughts as soon as you get out that building. No sense in doing overtime with the whole worrying and overthinking mistakes you may, or may not have done. You're already doing the right thing ----- distract yourself as much as possible, until the first shock wears out. Listen to fun music, watch comedies, take long walks, spazz twitter or whatever else you might use, and don't be too hard on yourself. It really does get better ;T _______________________________________________________________ I too am listening to the new album as we speak. It's definitely way different than what I expected it to be, especially since none if comes even close to match the style and vibe I got from "SERENDIPITY" (which comes across as almost being from a totally different album altogether). I definitely have a lot of things to say about "HER", but it won't be for another day or so - since I want to actually sit down and not be distracted while doing so.
  6. Hope things improved for you today, and that your week ends on a good note. If possible, try not to let others determine your mood, and remind yourself that life is going to end someday, eventually - in comparison to that, I find the hardships I encounter on a daily basis to be greatly insignificant. And I don't mean this in a negative way, but the though that some fifty years from now, I'm going to look back on my life and let myself be annoyed by small things wouldn't sit well with me - it also truly puts things in perspective for me, and makes me more relaxed as a result. _________________________________________________________ Also, with the announcemen of the second album, did anyone else notice that 17 were building up to this with the whole "GOING 17, EP -" thing all this time?
  7. http://cdn03.cdn.justjared.com/2017/09/18/bts-love-yourself-her-album-stream-download-listen-now/ Just thought I should drop by here and share this ----- BTS and their album "HER" are featured in an article at JUST JARED. For anyone not familiar with JJ, it's a celebrity page, really huge and free of the negativity of other blogs. Really had me surprised.
  8. Haha - no, I don't think so, the chances of it happening are not very high in my case. I've never really been into the whole "fandom" thing, not even as a child or teenager. But I don't have to, in order to enjoy the heck out of an album. Bts are among the few idol bands I always watch from the sideline because they felt different to me from the beginning. I didn't like the style they started out with too much, but I knew they had potential, only waiting to be released eventually. (1-7 is the only other "new" band I get similar vibes from) For example, take John Meyer - I consider him to be one of the greatest musicians in recent times, his melodies are superb, simplistic, but hit the nail on the head every single time. He is a heck of a lyricalist too and doesn't give a damn what people expect his music to sound like. He could easily be as successful as Taylor Swift or Adele, if he only "popped" his style up a little, but he is content with what he has released so far. All that being said, he couldn't be more unlikeable to me as a human being if he tried to. The same can be said for 1975, Phanton Planet, Rizzle Kicks or Kings of Leon ("Because of times"). I also don't expect bands and singers to meet my expectations (musically) with every new release - on the contrary, with the exception of John Meyer and Ryan Adams, I've had the opposite experience, but that's ok. Even if it takes another ten years until they release something I can enjoy again, I can live with that. This is also the reason you don't see me complaining when a band decides to do a complete 180 music wise. I don't expect any musician to remain with the same niche or genre they started out with, so even if they jump from hip hop to funk, indy rock to pop ----- it doesn't bother me.
  9. These days, it's very easy to be a fan of bts. They seem to have everything going for them - whatever they release, it ends up being super popular, their albums are breaking records left and right, their fanbase seems to quadruple with each cb, they are growing more well known globally and there seems to be no real slowing down any time soon. I don't consider myself a "fan" of bts in your typical sense, but rather as a general fan of good music - it doesn't matter who the singer or band is, as long as the music they release resonates with me. That being said, I've been following bts for a while, even though I don't really know the members or watch any interviews, I still try to keep myself up to date on their newest releases, and this one especially, is getting me excited the closer we get to release - and I think you can tell. I wouldn't be here, writing down as many posts as I have in their name, and defending their honor ( so to speak) if I wern't. Still - people are selling them short, when they explain their newfound popularity by making statements such as "Ohh - people are now only jumping on a bandwagon", and the sort. People are beginning to notice bts more and more because they are doing something very right. Musically, their skills have come to a point where they can tackle pretty much any style and make it work. They are trying new genres, looking for new challenges and setting their goals even higher. Without the steady fanbase and some successful songs along the way, none of this would have worked as easily as it did, but they managed to do it, and in a relatively short amount of time too. The result of that steady support and success manifests itself in this enormous confidence, that bts have developed over time. This confidence shines through and it is what allows them to relax enough to not have to worry about whether people are going to leave them if they try something new, or of their label is going to drop them for being financially unbearable. It also allows them to be as creative as they are - something you can't do while being under constant pressure over one reason or another. With Suga, Rap Mon and J-Hope, they have three capable producers to bring in new input every time. There is no danger of one style overtaking the other. When most groups can consider themselves lucky to have even one member with the skill to produce and write the tracks, but to have three is truly where a lot of bts growth and success stems from. They feed of each other, and there is a healthy competition among the three, plus - this way they also manage to avoid overusing the same producer over and over and wearing him down. The question about what it is that distinguishes bts from other kpop acts is, imo, missing the point. Rather than that, it should be, what distinguishes them from the big three (you know the ones) and for me, at least, the answer is simple - their confidence. I don't mean the sort of confidence that one builds through seeing your own face appear on TV every night, or having thousands of fans yell your name, but the sort, that is a natural result of hard work and the success and longetivity to prove it. It may not come across on the stage so much, but musically, I feel it very clearly with every new release. They didn't just get "lucky" or somehow stumble into this super successful act - they took risks very early on in their career (and had the skill to make it work in their favour), and did so repeatedly throughout - and those are paying of right now big time - and rightfully so.
  10. I think I know what you mean by that definition, and it exists for me too. But usually, when I think of the typical (slow and romantic) kpop song, it ends up being sappy and corny. Slow and emotional songs, especially when centered on love are hard to pull of for a reason. How do you portray desperation without coming across as overly melodramatic? And what about the sense of loss and longing, fear and hopefulness? The key is to focus on telling a story, instead of trying to force the "emotion" across through stale and shallow phrases. Don't tell me to feel desperate and hurt, show me - make me come to the conclusion on my own. For example, the reason why Justin Biebers "Love yourself" , and Whiz Kalifas "See you again" resonated with so many people is because those songs do just that. They are not overly sentimental in their choice of words, melody wise they underscore instead of exaggerate, both are more subdued, but at the same time, they manage to build towards a definite climax, it may not be as "in your face" and blatant as your usual bubly kpop song, but it's there none the less.---- - as a listener, you are free to make your own conclusions and fill in the blanks. So the answer for me would be a definite no - "Serendipity" is all but a typical (slow) kpop song to me. It's starts out slow, yet the intent is there right from the get go, builds towards a definite pre chorus, and sets the bar even higher for the final act. It's a sophisticated, neo R'n'B type of style musically, and I enjoyed it a great deal from the very first listen - so far, it is one of the most exciting bts songs for me. (this is an answer I just posted on another thread here, but since it fit your post so well, I thought I would just bring it over)
  11. Absolutely, your first paragraph sums it up nicely! However, unlike you, love song concepts don't make me nervous, I feel as though they are bench mark of sorts, and lesser skilled groups will almost certainly mess it up. They fall in the habit of being unnecessary cheesy and sappy instead of creative. It's always hard to make something slow melodic and interesting enough for people to actually WANT to listen to repeatedly. You can tell how much bts has matured (and any group for that matter) when you listen to their love songs throughout the albums. It's true that at first listen "Serendipity" might be simple, but there is so much going on musically, the highlights are there, and right on cue, just like in a good movie, where the 1st plot point happens at around the 25% mark, a mid shift point at about 50, and the final twist at around 75% --- you just have to pay attention. The shift from one to the other may be subtle but it's there none the less. The MV is fantastic - I love all the yellows, and the sense of fate as this strong opposing force against one tiny human is truly well illustrated. With the the type of music bts is making, it's hard not to catch up on what is trendy right now. The whole EDM and thie neo R'n'B scene has great potential. I can see why a band like bts would be intrigued by it. Maybe it is easier for me to adapt to different styles since I really like pretty much anything, as long as it's good music. I don't have a set type of style I prefer so it makes it much easier to accept a change like this. However, I don't feel like they are being radically different. What makes bts work so well these past two years is that they somehow managed to find this "GOLDEN FORMULA", to make every genre work in their favour. Yes, they are doing what is trendy right now --- but I don't consider this to be a bad thing at all. The trick is to add your own spin to the whole thing, be one step ahead, and still manage to keep that bts "colour" that made them stand out so much in the first place to begin with, and IMO, they did just that. I really like it, but it's absolutely fine if you don't. Don't force yourself to enjoy something just so you don't step on anybodys feelings. Being a fan doesn't mean you can't have your own opinion, so just sit back and relax, wait for the next album to come ---- with kpop, you know it's only a matter of month anyway ;T
  12. Hello! I have to say, bts got me with this one. Usually, I am not the type to go into total freak out mode - and certainly not over an "MV" like this. On paper it reads exactly like the type of MV I usually try to avoid, you know the one - the sort of Mv I feel is aimed at fangirls, with the sole intent being to get them attracted to a members visuals. "Serendipity" may start out like those types, - it has the pretty boy, all prepped up, eyeliner and lip balm included, lots of close-ups and longing expressions. Now, being a long time fan of kpop, I am, of course, very much aware of this tactic and the neccecary style - none of this shocks me, I don't even notice it - these days, it truly takes a lot in the appearance department to make me go "What the heck?". The setting couldn't be any more simple (again, on paper it would read as bland) - boy sitting in a small room, hiding under a blanket, making big round eyes and giving the camera his best dreamy eyed stare, a guarantee to make girls of all ages clutch their pillow tight to their chest. And yet, I found myself intrigued from the very first seconds in. Yes, there is not a lot happening - physically, Jimin is not doing a lot, but the MV conveys a great deal of emotion none the less. I felt a great deal of little prince moodiness throughout the whole MV, down to the melancholy but slightly optimistic feel. Honestly --- there is really nothing much to say here, without repeating myself --- this blew me away, literally, the song, combined with the MV lifted me off of my feet, and now I can't wait for the 18 to come and see if bts can manage to do the unthinkable - take, yet again, take the road less traveled by. (Bts is where they are right now because they do it different every single time. Every comeback, they have something else up their sleeve, it may not satisfy every one, but at least, they are not afraid to always go beyond their comfort zone. I truly applaud them for not being afraid to try new things.)
  13. I must say I am quite surprised to finally discover someone "old" enough to have a daughter post in this forum. Being somewhat of an "older" fan myself, there are quite a few instances where I feel way too out of touch to actually join the conversations. It's not so bad, of course, since most of the time they consist of the others posting random pictures, and gong on about the boys good looks ect. I like the boys, but it's more like watching some sort of reality show, you know? It's really interesting and good fun to watch the boys mature and evolve, not only musically, but individually as well. I guess you could say I'm somewhat of a sucker for the whole "cinderella" story kind of thing. Not that 17 are poor, but they do come from this super small company, and managed to grow this big in only a short amount of time, and that's nice to watch. For me, this is definitely a one of a kind sort of thing, since I usually just don't "follow" groups at all (be that korean or international ones), it's jsut not my style - i never did, not even as a small child and teenager. (None of my siblings id, for that matter) That's why you never really see me bringing up anybodies appearance and whatnot - it really doesn't concern me much. But one thing I can't deny --- they have GREAT chemistry. Beside their music, this was the one point that really made them stand out for me from pretty much any other group these past few years. They seem like they genuinely enjoy each others company, on and of camera. So, whenever I stumble upon someone who is closer to my age, I tend to get a little carried away with my questions. My posts usually tend to end up being very long ---- just a warning. Did you join your daughter because she was too young to go by herself, or was it something you wanted to experience together? How did it feel being surrounded by a bunch of screaming, energetic and overly excited teens? I can only imagine how scary that must be! Did you have to stand during the whole concert? I myself always enjoy having someplace to sit, but that's because I feel I can't concentrate properly when I have to spend two hours standing on the same spot. I dislike being closed in, so that might have something to do with it too.(although being almost six feet tall, getting a good look at teh stage is usually not an issue for me) Well - that would be all for the moment? Feel free to pm be back any time at all ;T
  14. So, why is Dino actually getting hate for this? Again, I'm confused - apart from being an invasion of privacy he didn't do anything worth mentioning. Is it the fact that he has a girl(friend?), that he's shirtless or lying in a bed? (they boys have appeared shirtless numerous times in front of a camera already) --- what? Boy is having a girlfriend --- big deal...
  15. What I don't get is why "trolls" are so happy about this video in the first place. I havn't watched it, but from what I read here, he only said "I love you too", while being shirtless. He didn't curse, he didn't film himself having sex, he didn't kick a puppy, he wasn't being rude, or crossing the street with the red lights still on (which, apparently is enough to get your MV banned) ------ a young adult being affectionate with his girlfriend is a big deal now - how so? The only wrong doing would be the invasion of privacy, but even so, something else will come up in a week and everyone will forget about Dino on his white sheets. Seriously, in which way or form is this feeding antis? There's apparently not a single negative thing in this video.
  16. Yep, yep - ever since the album released I found "My I" to be the song with the greatest potential after DWC. From beginning to end, every aspect in this song is super catchy. Right of from the start you have this nice melody, the progression towards the chorus is done perfectly, and it picks up energy as it goes along. Not a fan of the choreo, since I always imagined the MV to be more grounded. The scene that always pops up in my head is that about a young man on some train station being deep in thought,, it could be either his family or indeed a woman he is thinking about, then he starts running the opposite direction, pushing his way through the people surrounding him. A long journey that brings him back to the home he left. This melancholy feel is truly great on this track. The other thing I want to ask - now that the boys have about ten days before the next concert, what to they do in those days? Do they have some kind of schedule or are they free to take some time of? Hope China line gets to visit their families soon - being apart for so long truly sucks.
  17. Minguy is not judging - he wants to trade places with Scoups ;T
  18. Does anyone here know when the 17 members contract with Pledis runs out? They are now, what - in their third year? For a lot of boybands, this usually ends up being the time period, in which their careers pick up and a lot of the money starts coming in. For 17 sake, I hope it won't be much longer. A new contract always means more money for them and less for Pledis, especially, since the boys put so much effort into writing, composing and choreo - they certainly would deserve more than their fair share. From what I know, they have since moved into a bigger dorm, so at least, it seems, that things are going in the right direction, still, 13 members is a lot of people, which makes even 200 m² seem like a small space.
  19. You are wrong on two accounts, first, I don't "stan" groups over a concept. I DO NOT stan groups, period. Where you would get this out of my post is a mystery to me, because I certainly don't say so anywhere, and didn't even imply it by any means. Second, I state that I have not heard a single song by PRISTIN. I don't know any of their songs. I do not judge them, but it's true that my experiences with female singers/groups so far have proven me right more often than not. The concept doesn't in any way influence my decision whether I will like the music or not, if the music is fine, than that's all I care for, they could run around in plastic and I won't care. But that's when I already know and like a groups music. Concept only comes into play when the group is totally new to me, then of course it's all I can go by. Yes, the teaser brought me here, but that is not being shallow, it's simply what teasers like this are there for, to spark curiosity, to get new people to check them out, if they havn't done so by now. Naturally, I am going to be more inclined to consider a group if something about them sparks my curiosity first. Style, attitude and charisma are the first aspects one tends to go for, if you havn't come across the music yet. It's only natural to judge a book by it's cover, and this is especially true for kpop - sure, the music is what i am intersted in, but if the overall style already turns me of, then chances are, I will give them a pass before I even decide to listen to a single song. I dislike the pink and fluffy hello-kitty nonsense, so you can bet that any group unknown to me running around like that will not get even a second of my attention. This teaser, however, has me hoping for a mature, laid back or aggressive style musically. The picture alone made me click, which than lead to me plying the whole 28 second teaser, and enjoying the bits of music there too ----which now lead to me wanting to check out their next song. So it worked. Girl groups simply don't do it for me - no matter how "badasss" or hip or serious they make them out to be before debut, they always end up with the cute concept - Girslda-y, f-(x), BP - you name it. Yes, I generalize them, but I do so for good reason - I've been an avid listener to kpop for over ten years, and 99 percent of the time the girl groups sound, act and feel the same,. ( Even if they wanted to, Koreans do NOT want their women to be anything else but cute, tame and innocent, which is the sole reason they never worked for me.) I am in for the music - the rest doesn't really matter, though of course, it's always more entertaining to have a fresh Mv or a neat choreo when it fits, to go along with the song. There are songs, that I would have never listened to if it wern't for the MV, or choreo, so, it works in those ways too. Those three aspects can be great tools for a group to gain new fans, whether that be casual listeners or not. Yes, kpop groups tend to change their concepts with each new cb, but that's neither bad or good. As long as I enjoy the music, and they don't end up going with a style that simply doesn't suit my taste (musically), I'm fine.
  20. They shouldn't make him bleach his hair so much, he's loosing hair on his temples, it's something I noticed a year ago. I know, korean people usually ted to be immune to the effects of constant bleach, but JH certainly isn't one of them. Besides, his natural dark hair looks best on him anyways. And about him loosing weight, actually, I think he's always been more on the skinny side, also, if you take a look at their debut days, he grew at least an inch, I know, this is not really noticeable, but still.
  21. We'll all agree that when it comes to music, our taste is subjective, what excites one will leave the other cold - and I'm not here to tell anybody what to listen to, and what not. That all being said - this is what music should sound like! VERSE 2 is neither loud nor flashy - but it still hits all the right spots regardless. Most of the tracks are mid tempo, but they build up pretty well after the first third, until they completely suck you in in the middle part, and you will suddenly find yourself jamming to the super catchy choruses like crazy. The tracks don't come with the typical fashion, bling bling, with fancy dances and over the top choreos that have come to define kpop so much. I like B-TS, BB or even 17, as much as your next kpop fan ----but thank god for this album. Hands down, the best thing to happen to kpop in a while. I've been around when JJ Porject made their debut back in the day, and was quite bumped that it didn't last long. I'm really glad, they decided to give this another go. This album is gold. I've been listening to it pretty much 24/7 for a good couple of days now. It may just be, that this is the sort of music that really appeals to me, but it's hard to find any faults with this album so far. The posiotns are changing as the days go by, but so far, my favourite track is "Icarus", followed veeeeeery closely by "Don't wanna know", "Coming home" and "on&on" and "Tomorrow, Today". Hope the next come back won't be too far away this time around. Enjoy ;T
  22. Hello, hello! This is my first post in this thread, so chances are high you probably won't see my again after this. I don't usually follow female idols - there are many reasons for that, but it can all be summed up to three major points. The cutesy act is too cringy, lack of personality or charisma on stage, bad music and high pitched singing voices. Since I really have no idea about Pristin as a group, I cannot judge how much of that applies to them, but knowig kpop, and the standards for women in the korean entertainment industry I'd like to bet that they too will fall in of these categories. Now, imagine my surprise, when I stumbled upon the newly released teaser. That, right there, are 28 seconds done right. Concept, beat, style, attitude - all done very well. Even though it ended up a little too short for my liking, the teaser still managed to get me hooked. Now, I will go ahead and say it right now -- if Pledis really has the guts to go through with this all the way, and if if it doesn't end up turning into the same old cutesy-high-pitched-sugery-cringe-wrothy doll concert, after some short seconds of the beat intro, you can officially count me as a fan. I really want this to be good. The whole - having adult women act and speak like seven year olds - is beyond creepy, and boring as heck.
  23. Here is another one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVKoVbXQDNE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82x1HelP3pY The second may not be as flashy, but I find it even more telling for that reason - watch all the subtle dynamics going on.
  24. Here you go - but if anyone is able to find this on youtube you're more than welcome to post it. http://www.vlive.tv/video/31664
