Yep, I agree that there is still some flaws and bias in this rule but it should make a competition more fairer. I doubt Sejeong will still win if she chose a 6 members-song or if Call me baby team decided to push 1 member for a spotlight.
Sejeong/Yeonjung/Juna high votes cause other members to get a really low score.
Growl and Bang Bang are screwed. Considering a 600-700 score range for each team. The best the highest member can get is probably 200 - 250 votes or at very very best 300. While Full moon team, 200 is already thier average score for each person. Forget the "
Avenger 2.0" thing, if that even results an even more balanced vote for each popular members. Expect a Somi/Yoojung win with lesser votes than Sohye...Coming SOON!!!!!
Perhaps however each group had a few strong trainees, there was literally no weak group. Without a doubt, the advantage rested with the higher ranked trainees as they could choose their groups and in most cases they also took key or centre roles... how that played out with the dance and rap groups, we will only see next episode...
Having said that, if you performed and stood out, you got the lion's share of the votes especially if you were to able to showcase yourself because you were the centre and/or main vocals... Where you correctly pointed out is in the instance of a large group where no-one clearly stands out... but I would say that even in large groups, the bulk of the votes will shared between the top 2, it becomes a steeper fall thereafter...
For those that chose larger groups, my hats off to them for their confidence... it's not as though they were forced into those groups unlike the lower rank trainees who had less choice...
My hats off to Sohye for being smart & recognising her clear weaknesses, vocals & rap. Dance was also a weakness as she was not trained in any of them... She chose a strong dance group of 3, one that had Pinky and Chaeyeon. 1 of 3 had a higher score probability than 1 of 5 or 7. Chances of messing up in a smaller group was however higher... She knows she isn't going to win the 100 k but if she meets expectations...
Naive perhaps, no-training, true, untalented, depends on how you look at it but stupid, she certainly is not... Sohye, Fighting!
Simply some observations...

So I have just combined all the votes for each performance
Monster - 640 votes
Haru Haru - 690 votes
Call me baby - 769 votes
Me Gusta Tu - 686 votes
My Best - 763 votes
Yangwha BRDG - 667 votes
So, here is what I think about the rule. Why they don't choose the winning performance overall first and then choose the #1 of that performance to recieve 100,000 votes AND the rest of the members also recieve 10,000 votes each. And #1 for the rest performances recieves 5,000 votes.
In this new rule, contestants will try and cooperate more to make a balanced/impressive performance to gain viewer votes which Call me maybe and Me Gusta Tu really did a great job about this (My best/Yanghwa BRDG team did good too but they focused to push Sira/Sejeong too much).
And the winner will be Call me baby team. With Ahn Ye Seul wins 100,000 votes and Eunwoo/Sohee wins 10,000 votes with Sejeong, Sira, Soomin, Siyeon and Yeonjung recieves 5,000 votes each. The votes is fair for the ones who did well but still not that much that the rest can't catch up.
I think it's fairer than the current rule which popularity or role distribution play a big part in the vote. (Sejeong, Sira, Yeonjung/Juna).
Also in this current rule, no chance in hell that a member in 7 members team will get a high vote enough to win 100,000 votes when there are also a team with 3 members/5 members. Look at Siyeon and Soomin, they win #1 but didn't even recieve 200 votes and even have lesser votes than Sohee since they have to share the vote with other members. Except they pull something like 400-50-30-30-20-20-10, I doubt the winner will come from Growl or Bang Bang team.
LOL... never going to happen... interestingly Yangwha bridge had the 2nd lowest voting total (667)... ave 167 per trainee, Call me baby had 769 votes or an average of 256 per trainee... Monster with the lowest total of 640 still managed to give Yeonjung a good number of votes....
Regardless, its all about resonance.... the higher ranked trainees will always get the better roles, that comes from their ranking... Centre will always get the spotlight and if you shine, you get the votes... perhaps not fair, but that is reality....
no system is without its flaws... simply speaking...

maybe she doesnt have the confidence to be a leader. Many groups didnt have the A girls as their leaders, that doesnt mean they dont have drive. She was center of Pick Me's performance (and did an amazing job) and maybe wanted to give the spotlight to others. It comes from different personalities not exactly from who has "drive" and who hasnt. If you see the way Yoojung performs she definitely has the passion in her
Whether you can ascribe it editing, her story was compelling. If you relook at the episode one and saw trainer comments and how she was put in D, then of the shots where she seemed lost and how she found it in herself to get out of the D and into A, and over it get the centre the votes of here fellow trainees... her willingness to take a step back from centre... the prank camera... all of that resonates...

Finally, watched the full episode, caught up to page 565, then going to bed after this post....
Some simple observations...
- Does anyone realise how much footage is shot for each show that then reduces to 2 hours? Seriously, with the bulk of the episode dedicated to the performances, just how much footage really gets into the show and onto youtube... I would be amazed if even 10% of the footage shot gets seen! Produce 101 must have at least 10 cameras, even if they shoot for 8 hours over 2 days, that's 80 hours excluding performance....
- Editing, this is done by editors (notice more than one) looking through the footage picking and selecting the best cuts possible which are then edited to create a story that flows and one that will resonate & generate viewers. Sadly as with any story, there are protagonists and antagonists and supporting characters... We don't have to like it, or accept it, but that is the reality...
- We all knew that the rankings would change save the top 5 trainees who each got around 380 k votes and over. You just have to look at the voting trends... Somi and Sejeong alone, got 330 k / 360 k votes over a 2 week period from episode 3-5 (this is in a region of 20-25k votes per day), Pinky, Mina and Yoonjung wouldn't be that far off either as they were starting from a smaller base. So it's not surprising to see these trends continue after the votes were reset... I would not be surprised to see more changes next week...
- Editing no doubt plays a role but consider this, most of those trainees that have risen didn't have much screen time either...
- Ultimately, it comes down to this... if you as a trainee can create that compelling story that resonates and makes the viewer identify with them, the trainees will get that screen time... That's just good television!
- So just chill and vote for those trainees that resonate with you, share in their joy and sadness, moan and groan when it's believe it unfair but as they say, 'It's not over until the Fat Lady sings'. So just sit back and enjoy... Fighting!
Okay, rant over, now I have to read another 40 posts before I go to sleep...

Eunbin in debuting with CLC adds another interesting side story to Produce 101, just re-watched Eunbin's thank you speech when she was chosen... Does shed new light and especially wondered if the other cube trainees knew already...
We vote for the trainees that resonate with us and I think that our views have certainly changed over the course of the episodes and short videos as to who we root for... We can all agree or disagree about the extent of the trainee's talent, determination, passion, visuals and what she deserves, but simply put, most of the girls in the top 30 or more meet & exceed these criterias. What works for me besides all of this are those trainees that show and act with sincerity... the hidden cameras, the pranks and the unguarded moments where the emotion leaks out says it all...
Just saying...

Simply a Jelphi moment in time....

For the 501st page celebration... A Simpleton's view on things...
This last song sang by all the trainees is so bittersweet...
Been watching from episode 1 when all the trainees were basically strangers to each other and to see how far they have come with them all now on speaking if not friendly terms and helping each other where possible... So very heartwarming...
Despite all the various views on editing, focus, rivalries, bottom line profits, the evil empire, etc... Produce 101 has been great entertainment. This thread has also been great reads!
For most trainees, I would be surprised if any of them did not benefit from this experience in one shape or form. The memories, friendships and life lessons learned here will be something they will always remember... Fighting!
So for rest of the remaining episodes, cheer when needed, sympathize when sad and through it all, share & appreciate each and every trainees success and efforts regardless of their talent & skills...

Throughly enjoying Produce 101.
With the first eliminations and the rankings done, if you want a chuckle, go back to episode 1, around the 10:30 min mark and enjoy...
Definitely a must for Sejeong fans....

LOL, maybe but the chances of a mistake in singing is so much higher... Tone, pronunciation, forgetting the words... Singing one line a la Risa is not going to help you score... Not to say dancing is any easier... But she seemed to have handle herself okay during the Irony dance routine...
