  1. Fully agree, I am throughly enjoying the show and the J-Idols are definitely bring a very different perspective to things... it guess it perhaps has to do with all the stage and handshake events they go to...
  2. perhaps... and it certainly would be different, but I suspect that cost was an issue... and the amount of content that would actually go to air would be limited imo.. so it was always going to be something cheap and dirty... It'll be interesting with the extra episode as to what additional content will be added... there will certainly be money available to be spent when we reach the final round of eliminations for excursions & guerrilla concerts...
  3. lol... and people are debating about rules & benefits... changing the yardsticks vis-a-vis the from prior seasons is okay in my books, but changing it in the current season when it's been announced is a no-no... The reality is that MNet is never going to announce anything until the final moment... that's what they call building suspense... and throwing out red herrings is fair... so don't read too much into it... I suspect that we'll get to some nice twists to this season...
  4. For the Position battle, the winner (singular) in each of the position categories gets the benefit of 100 k For the Concept battle, the winning team gets 150 k which is then split equally between the girls on the team... The concept battle benefits have a huge impact on who gets in on the final round of eliminations...
  5. Likely played a bigger role in season one, but there are voters who likely vote the entire agency slate like Starships Yujin and WonYoung or Yuehua's Yireon, Yena and perhaps Sihyun... or AKB / HKT stans voting for Sakura / Nako etc... It's a matter of attracting hard-core fans, and if they have those, hey'll be hard to dislodge from the top 12... Interesting fact, in season 1, 7 members of IOI were top 11 in episode 5 (1st cut), by episode 8, 10 members of IOI were in the top 11 however when it changed to 1-vote per day and the impact of the concept battle benefits we saw some reshuffling however the massive sms voting value on the final evening makes all the difference for the final places...
  6. Off topic I know on a PD48 thread, but soomin is as one of the talented girls in S1 that didn’t get air-time or the exposure... lol, Y, you will forgive me if I take this with a pinch of salt... The fact that they haven’t done much with the exposure resulting from MixNine (Pledis did a bang up job promoting the girls post PD101), or made any announcement of who’s in the debut group, or Soomin / Soyeon not been seen for the last 3 months... But... I wait to be pleasantly surprised... Sent from my iPhone using OneHallyu mobile app
  7. I'm not much into JPop but if I understand correctly when they graduate from for instance AKB48... they basically 'leave' AKB48 and move forward in life outside of the AKB48 support network... to do their own projects, solo careers etc... So yes I can see why a certain portion of their fans would be lost however having said this... I think that whatever group that is formed from PD48 is going to be very unique... after all, in the early stages of PD101 S1 and S2, everyone said that whatever group is formed going to be a bust... but what wasn't quite apparent was that the Produce series was basically a public's choice of the 'Best of the Best'.... perhaps their popularity could be impacted since Japan is not voting however I have no doubt that the songs that this group is given is going to chart they are definitely going to win shows... Whichever Japanese trainee makes the final group need not worry about a much reduced fandom, I suspect it'll more likely be the opposite... since they will in one sense transcend the AKB48 fan base to a larger one that follows Kpop... I suspect that Kaeun, Eunbi are likely in the final 12, but they will have some young talent too in Ahn YuJin, Won Young, Yireon, Yena... Sakura is a definite in my books as is Moe imo.... I don't worry too much about the concept of the group... all I'm really worried is that they get great songs...
  8. okay... positional battle on Produce 48.... Lee Soomin wanted the main vocals but deferred to Chanmi... and MNet didn't even bother to give Soomin a closing shot... how was she ever overlooked... but frankly, I was one of those....
  9. It will be interesting to see which Korean agency will have two trainees in the final 12... at this point, we could very well see two of them coming from Starship, Yuehua and AK48... For those interested... Risa on Produce 48....
  10. Park Minji will likely be out next round, Kim Sihyun will make it through to at least the next round, she is riding on coat tails I suspect and needs to get the air-time necessary to establish her own fandom...
  11. Lol... it’s moved a couple of hundred pages and since it appears to be a slow day... currently we seem to be having a debate between whether the exclusivity is good for the Japanese trainees, whether Jurina withdrew because of her health or not... Personally, I think only time will tell whether PD48 was a good thing or not for the trainees, be they from Japan or Korea... but what I do know is that the time they’ve spent on the PD48 is something that basically comes only once in a blue moon, if ever... face it, how many of them have the opportunity to be in daily contact with top-notch trainers, potential exposure on TV (12 episodes worth), practicing with fellow trainees, rubbing shoulders and learning new things from and with them... and the list goes on... In this life, one thing is certain, nothing for nothing and sometimes your call is correct, and sometimes it isn’t... but isn’t it also true that if you don’t take a step in any direction for fear it’s the wrong step.. then you never move... and if you never move, you never learn and grow... and if you never learn and grow then it’s likely all you left are regrets of what could have been... Just saying... For me as I always said, I love watching each and every one of them testing their limits and understanding that they are more capable then what they thought were... I love the joy in watching them succeed and the sadness when they don’t or are not recognised for what they’ve done... but I take solace they most if not all of them will look back at their time on this show with fond memories of things they did, things they have learnt about themselves and perhaps even bonds that will last beyond this show... 12. perhaps however it's the same level of benefit in season 1... and it basically guarantees the winner of making it into the next round...
  13. Well, both season 1 trainees Kim Sihyun and Park Minji have made it past the first cut... Group Battle & Results... Kim Sihyun - She is so much prettier... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMWrg3mfF20 Park Minji - after not making it in season 1, glad she made the cut this season... As the Main Vocal, she was under so much stress... so good luck to her for the concept battles... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLvDd8PZvkY
  14. Like season 1, there is so much talent in the top 20 that sometimes who you'd like changes depending on the mood you're in or the episode you watch... MNet, shame on you... lol I think the 1-vote change in the 3rd round will really have an impact on some of the rankings and it will largely be a function of which fans have made them the number1 one choice... For my part, I think that 4 of the top 5 are likely definite locks, namely Kauen, Ahn YuJin, Sakura and EunBin. Moe, Yireon, Hitomi, Miyu and Nako all have a good chances imo... WonYoung, Yena are strongly placed but it will depend whether they have managed to carve out their own fandoms separate to the potential coat-tails of YuJin and Yireon... I would love for ChaeYeon to make the final 12 too... Ranked outsiders for me include Kim Sihyun, Jang Gyu Ri and Heo Yujin The reality is that all the girls in the upper ranks are all deserving... and it unfortunately will come down to which ones of them resonates most in the lead up to the final episode... and the final episode will be huge since the sms voting that evening will have a huge impact on which girls make the final 12...
  15. Some additional and interesting stats... comparing the voting for the first 58 trainees in PD48 vs PD101 S1, total for PD48 was 13.192 m votes (12 per day) vs PD101 total of 7.788 m as at the first round of eliminations... either way... huge numbers of people voting... 16. Okay.... didn't have access to a PC... but I did watch episode 5... Anyhow... here are the stats... belatedly... as expected, the benefit was huge for Minami Sato...
  17. okay.... back for a moment and realised that I am away this evening during the live stream... so definitely not coming to the thread until I watch episode 5 .... and then I'll be back with my trusted spreadsheet with all the votes.. and a look at the impact and importance of the 1,000 benefit... Anyhow... enjoy the live stream folks... and here is a shout out to Park Minji making the cut ...
  18. The odds are not aligned for Jinny unfortunately... the benefit would have really helped... it will depend on the past 2 weeks of voting...
  19. okay... I am sure you will get sick of my spreadsheets... lol... tough... Anyhow... rankings based up to episode 3, Group battle performance vote/benefits included as reference... I suspect that Park Minji might make it through to the next round... it will depend on the vote spreads around the cut-off area...
  20. Actually both VVV teams gave great performances... unfortunately, only one team gets the benefit... but Yujin's team clearly had more fun... and dare I say it... they had the vibrancy that Somi / Yoojung brought to their teams in season 1
  21. The most interesting aspect of this show imo, wasn't so much about the performances, nor the side stories... but more of what PD48 means to the Japanese trainees... and the huge benefits that most if not all of them are getting... whether they will be able to put all of it into practice.. we can only hope... Benefits & Learning: 1) Learning from fellow trainees, trainers, understanding that you are not alone 2) It's not really about the individual but more about the 'Team'... individuals can sometimes carry the team (Nako), but sometimes a strong team can be beaten... it's all about the sum of the parts... losses by Sakura, Kauen and BBY team 1 were unexpected... 3) The side stories before each group battle in some sense epitomises the whole concept of working together, encouragement and being better for it... 4) I wouldn't say that the Japanese came into PD48 lightly but I suspect that many of them were bringing a Japanese entertainment mindset, which is to have fun and entertain and of course learn, be 'trained' KPop style... But it's hard, hard, work... most of whom are stepping up to the challenge... 5) The importance of imparting knowledge... whether through coaching or even encouragement is certainly something that the Japanese trainees will never forget... examples in this episode include Moe, T Juri, BBY team 2 and the list goes on... I just wonder if the lessons learn here beyond the immediate ones of training and coaching like working together more, teaching others that are having problems etc... will be transferred back when they return to Japan... this is not to say Japan has none of this... but more of saying whether the Kpop style culture they've absorbed will begin to have an influence on AKB48 and related teams going forward.. Overall, I actually enjoyed the episode and how each of the teams pulled together... there was never a performance which was sub-par imo, it could have been better I imagine but all the girls stepped up...
