Bufan crying was so heart breaking. He even said he blames himself for not working hard enough. No my child, that wasn't the case. We have ruibin and xingjie who're also amazingly hard workers but didn't get in. Most of the criticisms on this guy fueled down to his looks and that really upset me seeing him on stage blaming himself.

I don't get the hype for yanjun other than for his visuals. Maybe that's just me though. I would have loved to have seen Ruibin and zj especially get that position. ZJ deserves more than #9

These nicknames are so hilarious because they sound more like character descriptions of each trainee and I love it x)

 

Here's some for our Slum Boys; BC221

 

Bu Fan : Fanzi (What BC221call him), Husky (because he reminds fans of and has memes compared to huskies), FanFan (his real name is Bu FanFan, and fans find FanFan rlly cute/adorable, so they prefer calling him Fanx2. Wow so many damn 'fan's,_,)

 

YueYue : Joey Yue (his English name is JOEY LOL), Uncle Yue (what Lingchao calls him; they have almost a decade apart in age), Old Yue (What everyone calls him), 'My YueYue' (What only shameless BuFan calls him)

 

Lingchao : Didi (his stage name, but also means younger bro in Chinese; BC221 refer to him almost exclusively as this), Little Prince / Fairy Prince (pretty obvs this one), My Child (What all BC221 mothers call this smol qtpie, me included,_,)

 

Mu Ziyang : YangYang (it's a cute rendition of his name, most c-fans call him this?), Liyang (his real name is Li ZhenYang, so fans call him liyang because it's easy), Muzi (What ifans call him, it's cute and simple), A WHOLE snack (What I call him ;) )

Well, I'm not saying that the ranking isn't biased. Just that it's good strategy to win live for your faves. And they have advantage that they have quite big fandom. In short-term run that was smart and effective move. In long term quite risky cause it made people quite angry at yuehua.

But I'll say one thing: life is cruel. It's TV show so it's gonna be cruel, too. They might be disappointed about biased ranks (really biased, but well...), but if you have to jugde two performances, it's almost impossible to not be biased. Take f.e. Show Me The Money 4 the final. But well, that's how it's always gonna be. 

I agree in the short-term it is smart strategics but better for something like finals or where some YH boy's rankings are precarious. Its been totally wasted in this live-vote though and has also tarnished YH boy's reps as well. With this context in mind, it was a pretty stupid move;-;

I also agree it's impossible to not be biased, but biased behavior will always garner backlash in response. The two go hand in hand, so I'm not surprised and can understand the uproar in IP fandoms rn. Hopefully the attack on the boys die down, esp poor FCC baby,_,

I don't understand those people and I think that some of them might be angry because their bias didn't win, so they decided to throw trash on FCC which is stupid, because it's not his fault. It's also not the YueHua fan's fault that they won their competitions - no one forbid other trainees' fans to buy the tickets for lives, so they could buy one and vote in live competition. I think those people are also angry, because generally yuehua is popular in this show, but also their fans are having really good team work - I think that people who went there to vote for (f.e.) Justin in other groups voted for other yuehua trainees.

I can't agree with this at all. I support the idea that YH boys shouldn't be attacked for their rankings; they didn't force or coerce anyone into voting for them & it's not their fault what their fandom does. However to say that the fandom practiced fair behavior and are not at fault for the distorted/biased rankings is just not true. It wasn't fair and it works to nullify the hard work these boys put into their stage (including YH boys) because their rankings are predisposed due to fan influence. In fact, this behavior seems to have hurt YH boys more than anyone else because they're being targeted/hated for this mess.

 

Of course, as a fandom you'll want the best for your biases. However this is a survival show first and foremost, and hence is inherently about providing an equal platform to judge trainees on. When rumors of unfair practice circulate (ala Nongie & company), it will cause a shit-storm in the survival show world because such practice (whether true or not) works actively to harm the position of other trainees; hence the backlash. This entire situation is extremely unfortunate because YH boys didn't even need the rankings boost; those placed in 30 and under would have truly benefited from this. Not only that, but this has garnered a shit ton of hate for YH boys which isn't fair on them.

 

I really hope other fandoms don't learn from such behaviour and start co-ordinating their votes (on such a scale) as well. This week's live-vote has been exploited by popularity, and I don't want to see the less popular trainees be put on the back burner in future episodes as bigger fandoms fight it out.

I'm legit confused rn because I thought Linong was considered a visual (handsome face, tall, charming smile etc). People can dislike him for X reason but saying he's not good looking is a reach lol.

Thank god, I thought I was going crazy there. My man is a visual for sure, even my really bad eyesight can figure that one out

Also hopefully Xingjie can crack top9. He'd make such an amazing leader, and honestly he could take main rap position as well. His stage presence is undeniable. As embarrassing being compared to Huba is, hopefully the comparisons put him on the chart to fans who weren't aware of him before x)

Honestly, if fans are only looking at visuals, Linong wouldn't be in top 9 right now.

+Bufan and Xiao Gui, but it's obvious that their loud (adorable) personalities help them. 

 

Also I think Nongie is pretty good looking  His smile in particular is soo pleasant to look at!

 

 

Who ever said that Idol Producer doesn't have people with good vocal + visual have obviously not been paying attention to Yang Feitong.

I don't think they meant there isn't a duality between good looks x vocal ability, but more so visual will be favoured first. Fans aren't looking at vocal ability at all, (which is understandable but unfortunate since there are MANY beautiful boys with just as beautiful vocals).

I mostly agree with what you said, but tbh the visual aspect is super important in the idol industry. This show is made to create an idol group mostly targeted to young people, so obviously you need "young visuals" in the top 9 too. If the whole top 9 has no visual appeal, no matter how talented they are, they aren't gonna be as successful as a group that has both talent and visuals like IOI/W1.

I agree with this despite how unfortunate it is. It might explain why Xingjie hasn't yet cracked top9 despite his AMAZING abilities and plethora of talent. He's literally the perfect Idol minus the 'pretty boy image'. Just looking at the top 5, they're all clearly moulded towards the same appearance; really handsome, yet slightly feminine features (esp for Xukun/ZZT). I guess maybe because we know their personalities that their appearance differes to us, but in the most objective sense xukun and zzt are pretty/boyish beautiful. 

 

I guess that's why I love Xiao Gui/Bufan since they're hardly beautiful in the stereotypical sense. As much as I understand why beauty plays a part in picking the top9, I will pray upon pray these fangirls start looking at abilities too. Guys like YZJ and Xingjie deserve a solidified position in the top9

Also the hate for him is absurd. I feel people only use him to compare against their faves (certainly in this thread), when tbh he admits he doesn't have these talents. He's been a trainee for 10 days prior to attending IP, so idk how these people are out here trashing him for not having the abilities of some 10yr trainees. You don't like him? Okay. You ridiculing him for being on the show, wanting him out, propagating hate? gtfo.

 

This show is amazing exposure for him & I feel that's what he's on here primarily for; to get his face/brand out there (as opposed to be a legit idol trainee). He's really talented as a model, so I hope people would give him a break & appreciate what he CAN do because he's damn well good at it.

I guess I was referring more indirectly to those who were hating on other sites (since I'm too cowardly to approach them directly myself haha._.). I probably just feel protective over Bufan as I did with Xiao Gui when people were excessively attacking him for his hairstyle.

I hate how fans seem to reject differences in the idol industry. It's not a factory pumping out idol robots, but sometimes that really feels like what it is (certainly in kpop) because of the enforced uniformity. (Also I saw that twitter post too and was ?? over Xiao gui being mentioned since he's extraordinarily talented)

 

Regarding bufan; his perf for papillon really showcased his lack of abilities in certain areas. He looked like a deer caught in headlights lol, poor guy. I'd like to see his development too. I wouldn't say rapping comes naturally to him as it does Xingjie but he isn't atrociously inept at it either. I see a lot of room for improvement & I'm glad to see Bufan working on it.

I wouldn't say he isn't much of one, just simply he isn't as good as others. I've heard his rapping for some BC221 stuff and he's pretty proficient in it when has the time and materials to prepare well (he does emphasize tone and express emotion). Looking at these clips though, you're right he still has a long way before he becomes comfortable in rapping & doesn't require as much time to prepare.

 

That being said, he's extremely hard working and self-scrutinizing. Despite his (fairly good) rankings in the show, he remains so humble & down to earth. I think that's true star quality. Its only a matter of time before he solidifies his basics, and gets better at rapping, however being humble can't be learnt. I'd rather a top9 place goes to someone who constantly tries to be the best they can, than someone who feels they're already the best & are upset about not being ranked higher. 

 

Sorry for the essay btw, I've seen a lot of BuFan criticism going around which is a-ok, but it also seems to be propagating hate for him. One thing is thinking he doesn't deserve a spot, another is bashing his abilities despite his efforts & laughing at him maliciously. People can be so ugly sometimes.

How can you push yourself to such limits? I really hope and pray he's more careful with his health next time. He shouldn't let the pressures of others get to him, or he won't last. He must really want this, poor thing. Breaks my heart

On another note, I saw a Qins vid of LingChao wanting to pack that onesie, and I hoped back then someone would stop him. Alas he didn't just pack it, but wore that godawful thing for a whole runway shot. He's a Xukun in making wrong decisions I see

I agree. When he was comforting Quanzhe over his ranking, I realized how sincere and empathetic he was to Quanzhe's situation. He is the epitome of the perfect leader

 

It seems such a shame to me that they're all funnelled into these passing acting roles when they have such an abundance of talent perfect as idols. Zhu Xingjie in particular is a star on stage, his presence can't be replicated behind a script & screen. Hopefully he manages to crack that top #9, same for most on that list actually. 

 

Also I can't thank Xiao Gui enough for being so sweet. BuFan expressed worry when he realized his team-mates consisted of Xukun, Ziyi and Justin. Xiao Gui being there as extra support must have been so helpful for him.

 

I just realized that the banana boys all have particularly peculiar personalities which can't help but get stuck in memory. They also seem to be really good at what they specialize in ie Chaoze for dance, Zhangjing for singing, Matong for being the perfect maknae lol. They're really special bunch!

Are the presents based on total votes received?

I think there is separate voting for ranking, and gifts. For example, I can vote bufan for the top9 ranking vote, and then I can click his name and vote for him to receive a gift. There is like a milestone in votes trainees must achieve before gaining a present. Usually when the rankings vote is closed, you can still insert a vote for the gifts (one trainee, once every day). 

okay that makes sense. and ugh i've learned about MR.BIO pretty late, but i've seen clips of Zhou Rui, Zhou Yanchen, and Zhu Xingjie being in the group. just not sure about Lu Dinghao. guess i gotta go do some intensive research. but anyways, hopefully it's true because that would be amazing for them all to meet again after some time.

That's why I was uncertain whether that post was correct. But dinghao is present in that pic, so maybe they were trainees together under the same survival programme. It actually hurts me seeing them here considering how they've gone to such lengths but still can't fulfill their dreams. They're still yearning to performing on stage, and I can only wish some are successful this time round in making it into a successful idol group. 

 

The majority of the trainees who don't make it into Iqiyi's final line up will still be hoping for their break in a cpop group, and it just hurts me knowing that the literal non-existence of cpop idol success would mean some of them will never have a good chance of that. My heart goes out to trainees like Qin Fen who are not in it for fame or money, but just to fulfill a dream of performing on stage.

Lu Dinghao is a cute, but it makes me wonder if Zhou Rui doesn't care that he's touching his hair or they're close. lol

Zhou Rui himself is pretty open about touching, but I think they may have been previously acquainted or are close. I found this post on twitter but I'm unsure if its true.
